Reader Friday ~ Fort Point

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 35 Comments

Sorry to be late today, but moving back into my house has been the hardest part of my bathroom remodel! Every day this week I’ve logged over 10,000 steps, even 16,000 on Wednesday…but I’m almost finished…thank You, Lord! Couldn’t have made it through this remodel without Him, for sure. Before and after photos will be on Monday’s blog.

Now for this week’s book. During the remodel I managed to read a couple of books and Fort Point by Susan Page Davis was one of them. It kept me turning pages instead of getting the sleep I so desperately needed. 🙂 Here’s the back cover copy:

An ill-fated class reunion at Fort Point. . .Maine’s most famous author is murdered the night after the reunion. A classmate turns up dead a few days later, apparently drowned at Fort Point.

What does a cold case burglary have to do with the deaths?

And did a third classmate really commit suicide?

The Priority Unit solves its most challenging case, relying on wits, hard work, and faith. Meanwhile, Jennifer Wainthrop plans her wedding but manages to hand the detectives some important clues.

Detective Harvey Larson is offered a job he doesn’t want, until he learns the police chief has had a tragic accident. Captain Mike Browning is on vacation in Maine’s far north and proves a difficult man to track down.

Harvey and Jennifer continue their faith journey and romance while untangling the evidence.
Despite many obstacles, the Priority Unit is once again serving up Maine Justice.

My take:

I really enjoyed this second book in the Maine Justice series featuring Harvey Larson and Jennifer Wainthrop. Fort Point takes up about two weeks after the first book(The Priority Unit) ends.  It has a great mystery with clues for the reader to follow and a sweet romance between Harvey and Jennifer. Detective Eddie Thibodeau and Jennifer’s roommate Beth return from the first book. Eddie gets his own book later in this seven-book series.

Harvey is anxious to solve the murder of Maine’s most famous author before his wedding in four weeks. If you’re planning a wedding, can you imagine throwing a murder case into the middle of it? That really ups the tension. I enjoyed the natural way Susan showed Harvey and Jennifer’s faith journey without sounding preachy.

If you enjoy a good mystery, I think you will enjoy Fort Point with all its twists and turns.

Now for the winner of an arc copy of Guarded Prognosis by Richard Mabry: Linda Horin!

That is a lot of steps!! You’ll need a day off once you finish.

This second book sounds as good as the first! And congrats to Linda!

This is a series on my TBR list and this is an encouragement to read it soon. You sound like you have a Fitbit as I do. Congrats to Linda and you for your finished bathrooms. Yay!

Pat, I agree with you. Fort Point is a good story. I am almost finished reading box 6 in the series. If I didn’t have anything else to do, I would be.

Sounds like a great read, I’ll have to put it in TBR list! I can’t imagine how tired and relief you must feel with the remodeling done. Earlier this month we remodeled the kitchen and it was a headache even if the results were great. I hated having to be out during the day when the crew was there, but my 2yr old was sensitive to the noises! I can’t wait to see the pictures 🙂

I THOUGHT I commented, but I can’t find it! I’ve enjoyed a few of Susan’s historical novels. I didn’t know she also wrote suspense until I won this book from her. Thanks for the review, I need to move this up in my THE pile 🙂 Of course, I’d have to read the series!

Can’t wait for new bathroom pictures!
