This week I’m reviewing a book by Ronie Kendig that I read over a year ago, mostly because I still think about the characters and the story, and any book that stays with me that long deserves a review!
Here’s the back cover copy:
Four years after a tragic mission decimated his career and his team, Cole “Tox” Russell is persona non grata to the United States. And that’s fine–he just wants to be left alone. But when a dormant, centuries-old disease is unleashed, Tox is lured back into action.
Partnered with FBI agent Kasey Cortes, Tox has to pull together a team to begin a globe-spanning search for answers–and a cure. As their quest leads them from continent to continent, it slowly becomes clear they’re not just fighting a plague–but battling against an ancient secret society whose true goals remain hidden.
With time running out and opposition growing on every side, the key to everything may rest in an antique codex, the Crown of Jerusalem–but will Tox and his team be able to trust each other enough to break this century-spanning conspiracy of silence?
Ronie Kendig has outdone herself with A Conspiracy of Silence! I loved the way she wove in the Old Testament story of Eleazar’s censer when he went through the Israeli camp to stop the plague.
Kendig has a good feel for the male point of view and writes their dialogue and thoughts believably. The story was fast-paced and a page-turner. The romance between Kasey Cortes and Cole “Tox” Russell sizzled with emotion and had me rooting for them to get together. Not saying if they do or do not, just that it’s an interesting journey. I read this book almost a year ago and the characters have stayed with me and I’m looking forward to reading all the books in the series. This is a book that mixes ancient history with modern day and I highly recommend it.
Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library, including this one! Do you like to read stories based on Biblical events?

I have two or three books by Ronie but haven’t read them yet. Thanks for your thoughts on this one, Patricia!
The only biblical fiction books I’ve read are by Jill Eileen Smith and she does an awesome job of bringing the stories to life! She humanizes women of scripture and portrays everyday life as it could have been all while staying true to the Word. I particularly enjoyed Redeeming Grace, her portrayal of Ruth & Naomi. One of my favorite biblical stories 🙂
I know there are many other authors who write biblical fiction, but she’s the only author I’ve read so far. I always worry about accuracy in this genre because I want it to stay true to scripture.
HA, I can’t believe I’m the first commenter…that never happens!

Trixi, I know what you mean about accuracy. I loved the references to Eleazar’s censors in Ronie’s book. I haven’t read Jill Eileen Smith’s books, so thanks for telling me about them.
Wow it sounds great! This week I received in the mail my first ‘bible fiction’ called, ‘Loves Harvest’ a modern time version of Ruth’s story:).
I know how you feel about favorite books. Every year, I make it a point to read, The Chase by Robin Shope an Susan Wales :).
Author
Jessica, I haven’t read Loves Harvest so you’ll have to let me know how you liked it. There are only a handful of books that I will reread. Kristen Heitzman’s Free Fall is one of them.
I do love Biblical fiction and also love books based on Biblical events. I’m an avid follower of this series and Ronie Kendig; I cannot wait for Thirst for Steel due for release this summer!
Author
Mindy, I have to catch up on the series! I hate it when life gets in the way of my reading! Thanks for stopping by.
I am adding this to my “to read” list! I like some biblical fiction; others, not so much. I think much of it depends on the story type and the author’s writing style.
Author
I agree, Diane. This is a fast-paced read, the kind I like. Thanks for stopping by.
I do love when Biblical history is woven into a story. Biblical fiction is one of my favorite genres. I’ll have to check this book out.
Author
I think you’ll enjoy it, Linda. Thanks for stopping by.
Weaving stories with Biblical events is always so intriguing to me.
Author
Yes, and you really have to know your Bible to do that. 🙂 I like the way Ronie wove events into her story.
Yes, I do like Biblical fiction & books based on Biblical events. Looking forward to reading Conspiracy Of Silence!
Author
Thanks, Mary. I am giving a book away from my library…
I’ve read this book, too, and it’s excellent, as all of her books are. I enjoy reading books written on biblical events IF they’re well-written, and sadly not all are.
Author
You’re right, Delores. So glad this one is! Thanks for stopping by.
I love reading books based on Biblical events! Mesu Andrews, Connilyn Cossette, and Angela Hunt are, I think, some of the best authors of those types of books.
Author
I’m noting your authors, Elizabeth. I like Biblical stories but somehow haven’t read many. Thanks for stopping by.
At first I wouldn’t read fictionalized Biblical stories because I was worried about confusing the fiction with the Biblical truth. However, as I’ve aged, I’ve found the beauty in fleshing out Biblical stories in order to better understand the point of the Biblical truth–like making applications to real people’s lives today. I’m intrigued by Eleazar’s censer since I’m not familiar with it. I have read several of Ronie Kendig’s books, and they are always exciting! However, I have not read this one.
Author
Suzanne, it just so happened that when I read Ronie’s book, I was also reading about the exodus from Egypt and the forty years spent in the desert. That’s why I found this book so intriguing.
I have not read any books by this author but it sounds good. I do love to read books about Biblical fiction. I have read many including the story of Ruth, Abigail, David, and Esther.
Author
Ronie is a great writer, Faith. I’m looking forward to catching up on the other books in the series. Thanks for stopping by.
Ronie is one of my all time favorite authors. I have enjoyed all of her books that I have read. I enjoyed Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, based on Hosea and Gomer. It seems that people either love it or don’t. I found it a very emotional reminder of how much God loves us no matter what we do–His unconditional love.
Author
Gloria, I am ashamed to say I’ve never read Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, something I hope to correct soon. Thanks for dropping in.
I enjoy reading biblical fiction. I have never read any Ronie Kendig books. They look good.
Author
They are good, Erika! Thanks for stopping by.
I have never read Ronie, but hear lots about her. I love Jill Eileen Smith’s books.

Yes, I enjoy Biblical fiction–I’ve read a couple of Ronie Kendig’s books–I don’t start them at night! 🙂
Author
Definitely don’t start a Ronie Kendig book at night! Thanks, MS Barb!
I love to read books based on Biblical events! Most recently I’ve been enjoying ones written by Mesu Andrews and Tessa Afshar.
Author
Hi Colleen! Tessa Afshar is a new author to me, so I’ll have to check her out. Thanks. And thanks for stopping by!
I think I’m slower responding today than usual. Wife and I met a friend from Virginia Beach at Cracker Barrel about halfway between here and the beach for lunch and a visit. It was a good day. His wife was my wife’s best friend since high school. His wife passed away suddenly almost two years ago and we try to stay in touch with him. Now, what was the question again? 🙂 I don’t read many fiction books that are set in Biblical times with Biblical characters, but I have read several that had a tie-in as in Conspiracy of Silence. I have enjoyed every book I have read by Ronie Kendig. I have also enjoyed books by other authors, such as Davis Bunn, that use Biblical places in the settings although they may or may not reference specific Bible characters.
Author
Since I’ve been at a women’s retreat on Pickwick Lake, Tennessee, I totally get you wondering what the question was. lol After a lovely time, I’m back to the real world. Yes, I have some of Davis Bunn’s books on my pile to be read! Thanks for stopping by, Edward.
I enjoy reading Biblical Fiction if they are books about the End Times. We have quite a few Biblical Fiction books in the church library. Thanks for entering me in your giveaway.
Author
Janet, I read most of the Left Behind series and loved them. Thanks for stopping by!
