Reader Friday ~ Christmas Witness Pursuit

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 57 Comments

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Mine was quiet, with a few friends in. This time last year, I was in Israel, and I hope one day to return! December is here, and I thought I’d try to do a few Christmas reviews…maybe. 🙂

Lisa Harris mailed me a copy of her latest Love Inspired Suspense and it is a real page-turner. But first the back cover copy:

Running for their lives at Christmastime…

Can a lawman keep a key witness safe?

Deputy Griffin O’Callaghan has a situation on his hands—two dead FBI agents, criminals on the loose and Tory Faraday, a witness with no memory. With a blizzard moving in and killers hunting them down, Griffin must keep Tory safe. But even his family’s ranch can’t provide a haven when a dangerous criminal escapes from custody with one goal: finding Tory.

My take:

Oh.my.goodness. Lisa Harris starts this story off with a bang! Literally. The heroine, Tory Faraday, is being transported to court by two FBI agents so she can testify against a murderer when the car is ambushed and she hits her head when the car wrecks. And now she can’t remember anything. Not why she was in the car. Not that she’d witnessed a murder. Nada. She isn’t sure she should trust Griffin O’Callaghan, even if he says he’s a deputy sheriff.

Griffin rescues Tory and is assigned as her bodyguard until the FBI can arrive. Timber Hills is hit by the snowstorm of the century and the FBI can’t reach them, while the man trying to kill Tory slipped into town before the storm hit.

This is an exciting cat and mouse game as the bad guys seem to be one step ahead of Griffin and Tory. I literally couldn’t put the book down because just when I would think I had it figured out, a new twist would take the story in a different direction. I started the book just before I went to bed and finished it that night.

If you like fast-paced action with plenty of suspense, you’ll love this book. It goes on sale December 1, 2019, and you can purchase it at:

I think last year i listen to at least three audio books but only read one or two. This year I’ve listen to audio books and read three books, but they were novellas so I’m not sure that counts . I hope you had a great Thanksgiving !

Priscilla, I didn’t use to read more Christmas stories around this time of year, but lately I’ve found myself doing that. I even wrote one for Heartwarming! I’d like to get my rights back to that book and put it up myself. 🙂

Thanks for the review, Pat. I don’t go out of my way to read a book just because it has a Christmas theme. I’m also not too fond of plots where a main character has amnesia. I think it’s overdone. However, I love Lisa’s books, and I think I’ve read them all with this exception, and it’s #3 on my TBR queue. Like each one so far, Lisa’s books are too good to pass up.

Just started this book yesterday, totally captivating!
I tend to read Christmas stories at this time of year just because some are novellas and I can keep up with my yearly book challenge. Ive read some good ones this year: Christmas Tree Treasure Hunt by Joan Campbell and The Hope of Christmas Past by Stephania McGee and I FINALLY read A Christmas Carol by Dickens because I don’t remember if I read it long ago or not!

Paula, the challenge! I’d forgotten it! Thank you for reminding me–I need to get over there and complete my list. I have Stephania’s book on my TBR table. Will try and get to it this week. As well as Chandra Lynn Smith’s new book (that isn’t a Christmas story) and a hundred others! Thanks for stopping by!

I enjoy more Christmas books during the season, but I have been known to read Christmas books year round.

I tend to wait until at least November to read Christmas stories. Right now I’m reading an older Christmas LIS by Christy Barritt, then I have one by Sandra Robbins to read! This one sounds really good!

Pat, I read Christmas Witness Pursuit and posted reviews on Amazon, etc. I enjoyed the story. Regarding Christmas stories, I may read more of them at Christmas, but not necessarily because of the Christmas setting. It has more to do with that is primarily what is being released at this time of the year.

Hi, yes I love reading Christmas books especially this time of year. Right now I am reading and almost done with “Once Upon a Dickens Christmas” by Michelle Griep . I really recommend it, it is a very good book , it has 3 Christmas tales set in Victorian England. I Love it. Thank you for sharing your book review, the book sounds very intriguing and like a very good page turner! I love books that are full of suspense! Have a Great weekend . Thanks for the chance. God Bless you.

I tend to read more Christmas stories during the season. It helps me get in the Christmas spirit. I had not seen Stephenia’s newest. Another on my TBR.

Love Inspired Suspense are some of my favorite ones! I have not found one I didn’t like and I doubt I ever will 🙂

Funny thing, I read Christmas books all through October because I had “Christmas in Winter Hill” by Melody Carlson to review. It was my first one by her and I was hooked! So I binged on all her past Christmas books plus a few Amish ones and others I had on my bookshelf here at home. Then in November, I had a few review books to do, so I put the Christmas ones aside. Now that I am free to read whatever I want again, I have already started back on my Christmas TBR pile. I think it keeps growing the more I find, lol! I have a three month trial of Kindle Unlimted and I have found a LOT of Christmas books on there. I will probably go well into the New Year reading Christmas ones…and that’s okay by me 🙂

Wow, I’m late this time!! Just got back from a weekend in Wellington for the March for Life. It was my first one, and it was incredible! I think I read Christmas books all year round, just go by what is next on the sort-of-but-not-really-ordered list I have. I have found myself watching more Christmas movies though, which is interesting… Really looking forward to reading this book, because I love Lisa Harris’s books! I think I’ve read all of them now.

That’s wonderful about the March for Life, Monique! We have that every year here in Corinth, too. And I love Lisa’s books, too!! I’m so sorry for the volcano eruption in your country. That has to be scary. So glad you stopped by.

      1. Monique

I suppose I should look up the eruption to figure out what it’s about, because I don’t really know anything about it…. Okay yup, now I know where White Island is, it does sound quite bad. I guess when you’re traveling, you don’t really keep up with the news! I bet it’s very scary for those near the eruption, but in some ways, living in Auckland with 47ish volcanoes, it feels kinda distant… Don’t know if that makes any sense whatsoever. Very tired right now!

Glad you weren’t affected, Monique! While we don’t have volcanoes here in our area of the US, we do have earthquakes and our are is actually on the New Madrid fault line. Get some rest!
