Reader Friday ~ Brink of Danger

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 34 Comments

Brink of Danger by Christy Barritt literally kept me from doing anything until I finished it. Of course, it helped that my power was off and I could read without guilt. 🙂

And when my battery got low on my iPad, I switched to my phone to finish it! Here’s the back cover copy:

Ansley Wilder has always lived life on the wild side, using thrills to numb the pain from her past and escape her mistakes. But a near-death experience two years ago changed everything. When another incident nearly claims her life, she turns her thrill-seeking ways into a fight for survival.

Ryan Philips left Fog Lake to chase adventure far from home. Now he’s returned as the new fire chief in town, but the slower-paced life he seeks is nowhere to be found. Not only is a wildfire blazing out of control, but a malicious killer known as “The Woodsman” is enacting crimes that appear accidental. Plus, there seems to be a strange connection with these incidents and his best friend’s little sister, Ansley Wilder.

As a killer watches their every move and the forest fire threatens to destroy their scenic town, both Ryan and Ansley hover on the brink of danger. One wrong move could send them tumbling over the edge . . .permantly.

My take:

This is book three in The Fog Lake Suspense series, and I don’t know how I missed the first two, but you can bet I’ll remedy that this week. I love the setting–a small town in the Smokey Mountains. The story starts with a bang when Ainsley is the first to try out the new zip line at Fog Lake. And it breaks when she’s halfway down the mountain. It’s only by the grace of God that she wasn’t killed. One of her rescuers is Ryan Phillips, and they have history!

I would think I had the villain figured out and Barritt would throw in another twist, rocking my guess. I loved how Ainsley struggled with the good changes she’d made, like not drinking and trying to be nicer to people. Ryan was a swoon-worthy hero–the handsome, silent type. He was running from his own demons.

If you love suspense and romance combined, you’ll enjoy this book! And if you’ll leave a comment, I’ll enter you in a drawing where I’ll loan the book to you. I just figured out how to loan books I’ve bought, so if you’re interested in the drawing, let me know in the comments.

Haha, yeah, it’s Friday afternoon for me right now. So I laughed, but I think we’ve all done it!! Just got back from a thrift store where we went shopping for formal dresses for Mum’s 50th party in two weeks. We were able to find some, which was good!

Okay, will do! Also going to be a little unusual, since our youngest sister is almost 11 months! Not many 50 year olds with an under 1 year old daughter!!

Good to know that you can loan books out. Don’t enter me for it though. I have this ‘thing’ where I read books in order. 🙂 Also my TBR had another net gain this week.

A little OCD are we when it comes to books, Joni? Just joking! I normally like to read books in order, too, but sometimes I accidentally read one out of order–that’s what happened here. And then I have to get the first one and forget what I read in the second one. 😉 I’ll be getting Christy’s other books in this series and will try to review them in order. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.

Pat, thanks for yet another book to add to my TBR. I’m losing ground, I think. I’ll take a pass on the lending drawing, too. Like Joni, I like to read in order, and I like to have the book handy for reference or a second read (yeah, like I have time for that).

You make me smile this morning, Tim. I will be reviewing mysteries by Jenny B Jones in the coming weeks and I’ll review them in order. You might want to get one of them on loan. The first one was really good. Thanks as always for stopping by.

Another one that sounds fantastic! I have been known to read books out of order, but prefer not to if I have the option. I love that you are willing to lend it out – hopefully I can get my hands on the first two and then it would be great!

Pat, I agree with what Tim has said as far as losing ground on the TBR and preferring to read in order. I am familiar with Christy’s name but can’t recall if I have read any of her books. This sounds like an interesting series. I meant to email you after your comment the other day about the power outage. Our daughter gave us a nice 30-day LED lantern that is great in emergencies like power outages. It’s simpler and safer than candles. You could read a paper book and save your laptop power for other things. Here’s a link to one similar to ours that we gave to a friend: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ABUSWM2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I forgot to ask if your clock gained a day while the power was out. This is Thursday. 🙂 I also meant to mention that the Amazon link is to their Amazon Smile site. If you aren’t familiar, it’s a great way to help one of your favorite charities every time you make a purchase from Amazon. My home church participates and received over $50 last year through this program.

Yeah, I think it did, Edward. lol. I use Amazon Smile to help my daughter out. She uses horses in her speech pathology nonprofit. It helps to buy helmets and such for the riders. Love Amazon Smile!

Edward, I have about 4 LED lanterns and flashlights! They really saved the day. And I discovered if I put my lantern in front of a mirror, it gave lots more light! Thanks for the suggestion!

Another book for my growing TBR pile. lol. I love Christy’s books. I’ll have to check out the first two books in this series. Thanks for the review.

I usually buy Christy’s books when they come out since they are only $.99 most of the time so don’t enter me. I just need to start reading them.

Patricia, you do realize this is Thrusday right? LOL!

I might have some of Christy Barritt’s books on my Kindle, I’d have to look. I just know I have WAY more on there, plus my physical bookshelves, to EVER read in my lifetime. I hope there will be library in Heaven of all those unread books, lol!

I’m not sure how the lending thing works on Amazon, but does it have a time limit on how long a person has for the loan….kind of like a library where you have 2 weeks or whatever before the book is due back? Because, if that’s the case, I may not read it in time…lol! Put me in for the draw, thanks so much!
