Reader Friday ~ BREAKING POINT

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 55 Comments

Last week I read a really good romantic suspense book, BREAKING POINT by Marji Laine. You can read my interview with Marji Laine over at the Suspense Sisters blog where Marji is giving away a print copy of BREAKING POINT. I’m giving away a Kindle copy here on my blog!

BREAKING POINT kept me up at night, turning pages. This is fast-paced romantic suspense will satisfy any suspense reader. Here’s the back cover copy:

The mere rumor of treasure can change lives, destroy friendships… even kill?

Alynne’s Stone’s planned out and predictable life ended when she hurried to her mother’s side to support her during a family tragedy. So why would she now have a target on her back? Her father’s death had nothing to do with her, but suddenly she’s having these “accidents”? How can she stay and support her mom when someone is intent on eliminating her?

Police Lieutenant Jason Danvers believes her father was murdered. How, he can’t fathom, but he also can’t ignore the details that don’t add up. Attempts on Alynne’s life must be somehow connected. Still dealing with the pain of his own wife’s death, he can’t allow an innocent woman to die on his watch. Especially one as scintillating as Alynne Stone.

Even in a small town, things—and people—aren’t always what they appear to be.

Marji Laine did a superb job of creating a small-town setting where everyone knows everyone else’s business. There were so many twists and turns that Laine kept me guessing until the end.

I really liked Alynne. She had integrity and was loyal to her dad’s memory and to help out her mom, although a little too trusting sometimes when it came to others. And she could be stubborn. But that was her personality. And Jason Danvers was totally swoon-worthy! He was a great hero–flawed but willing to eventually overcome his past. And I love stories with a treasure hunt in them. I felt sorry for Allyne’s brother-in-law since her sister was such a pain! But it made for interesting characters.

You can purchase Breaking Point at Amazon.

And I’ll give away a Kindle copy of Breaking Point. Leave a comment by Monday night and I’ll enter you in a drawing. Winner announced next Friday. And if you hop over to the Suspense Sisters and read the interview and leave a comment you’ll have another chance to win a copy, this one print, as long as you live in the Continental USA.

Sounds like an awesome book! I’ll add it to my TBR list. Finally found time to read Wild Montana Skies – loved it so much! Thanks heaps!

This sounds like a good book, but I immediately ran into a problem. It doesn’t seem to be available for the Barnes & Noble Nook, and at $16 for the paperback, that’s really not likely to get on my list. However Pat, by bringing this to my attention, I did have to look up the name Alynne as I’d never heard it before. I found this: http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/0/Alynne. I learn something new every day.

I noticed that it was only available on Kindle, too, Tim. Have you thought about downloading the Kindle app on your computer? And thanks for the link–it will come in handy when I’m looking for a name. 🙂

Pat, thanks for the tip about the Kindle app for my computer. I was unaware of it. I did find that Marji Laine’s other book in this series is available for the B&N Nook for 99 cents. I wonder if they priced it low to see if there was a Nook market for her books.

Hi Tim! COUNTER POINT is on special right now because of the release of it’s sister-book. And I do intend to put BREAKING POINT on B&N Nook at some point, but Amazon holds an exclusivity on it for now. I do hope you’ll enjoy COUNTER POINT. I have to tell you, I LOVE the characters in this little town!

Pat, you are the best when suggesting new books and authors. And Marji Laine is fantastic when it comes to getting her books to potential readers. This book is now available on Barnes & Noble (including Nook), and I just finished reading it this morning. Without doubt one of the best books I’ve read in at least a year. Terrific mystery, plenty of action, and the secondary characters were a hoot. Several times, I had to laugh out loud. My cats looked at me as if wondering whether to call for the folks in the white coats. Pat, thank you for telling us about this book. Marji, thank you for making it available on B&N.

That next one is in the works! BOILING POINT brings in a couple of characters that visit in both COUNTER POINT and BREAKING POINT. And they are some dynamic characters, let me tell you!

I’m not familiar with the author but the book sounds like a winner. Maybe I’ll get acquainted with a new author.

Add an element of suspense and that’s just sheer perfection to me 🙂 Breaking Point sounds like the kind of story I would enjoy reading & the characters ones I would care about. I fell in love with small towns when I was in college – Texas A&M Commerce (East Texas State back then. I was part of a singing group and we toured all sorts of small towns. I just love the friendly, laid-back feeling that they have!
