Over the Edge ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 27 Comments

Over the Edge (Undaunted Courage Book #2) by Irene Hannon is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: As Lindsey Barnes guided her car that led to her client’s upscale house, she eased back on the gas pedal and surveyed the empty bay in the three-car garage.

But first the photo and verse. I took the photo last Saturday at an RV Fly-in. And what is an RV, and what’s a Fly-in? First of all, an RV is an experimental, kit-built aircraft, and a fly-in is basically a get-together. I think there were about 20 planes on site Saturday. A little after noon, four planes flew overhead in formation. I missed the first photo opportunity, but caught the second. And I definitely love that verse for the photo.

Now for Over the Edge (Undaunted Courage Book #2) by Irene Hannon. Here’s the cover and back copy:

SOMEONE IS ON A RELENTLESS CAMPAIGN TO DESTROY HER CREDIBILITY—IF NOT HER LIFE.

Trauma survivor Lindsey Barnes hasn’t fully recovered from the ordeal that almost took her life, and now she’s in the middle of another crisis. Not only is she the sole witness in a high-profile murder case, but it also appears someone is trying to cast doubts on her mental stability.

Police detective Jack Tucker doesn’t know what to make of her story, especially when her elusive enemy leaves no evidence behind to lend credence to her claims. Yet the more he gets to know the appealing personal chef, the more he’s convinced someone is targeting not only her sanity but her life.

And unless they can figure out who is behind the campaign to undermine her credibility, a murderer could slip away—leaving more than one body behind.

My Take:

I listened to this on my 11-hour drive to Florida, and the time flew. I really enjoyed the psychological thriller aspect of it. Can you imagine what it would be like for someone to try to make you think you were crazy? I even wondered if Lindsey was losing it a time or two.

Hannon did a great job with the story, creating characters I cared about with a twisted mystery. This is a story that romantic suspense/thriller readers will love. It has tense scenes, action, surprises, twists, and a great mystery to unravel.

Now for Friday’s song. Jim Reeves is one of my all-time favorite singers.

That is a cool photo, and I can imagine having a blast watching the show. I love that verse. The photo made me think of a special plane for me and many Tucsonans. I live about 5 miles from Davis-Monthan AFB, and almost daily get to see and hear the A-10 Thunderbolt, nicknamed the Warthog. DM-AFB is home to them.

Irene Hannon introduced me to Christian Suspense. Her book, “Fatal Judgement” had been preloaded on the first Nook e-reader I purchased (2012). I’ve been hooked on this genre ever since. I’ve read every one of her books since then.

I’m about half way through “Deadly Currents” by Elizabeth Goddard. The first line is, “The sea never gives back what it claims…” It’s a great read.

Oh, wow, Tim. It would be so cool to see that every day! We didn’t really have a show, just a few of the guys practicing for one. 🙂 That is so neat that Irene Hannon’s book was preloaded on your Nook! I’ll be listening to Deadly Currents on my drive home later this month.

Cool picture. Reminds me of our trip to the EAA in Wisconsin. Also when we were on Guam and saw The Blue Angels fly over our backyard. We were living on base which was the international airport.

Good review, Pat. And those planes!!!! So fun to see those formations.

“ They meant the fire to blaze, to consume, to cackle its way into the night with a ferocity to match their beliefs. This is the first line of the prologue to The Collector of Burned Books by Roseanna M. White

I love looking up into a clear blue sky and seeing contrails from planes crisscrossing the sky. Beautiful picture and verse. I am always on the lookout for another Irene Hannon book, just as I am for another Patricia Bradley book. Sounds like this one is a good one.

I am reading another Jody Hedlund book. I just finished proofreading a book by another author last night, but I can’t share that one. The opening lines from Rebellious Heart.

“He’s guilty of murder.” The judge’s voice echoed through the meetinghouse. “I hereby sentence him to be hanged.”
