My TBR List ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 31 Comments

My TBR List is this week’s Reader Friday. I haven’t had time to read anything this week, as you shall soon see. So I thought I would bring you a little of this and a little of that today. I also thought I’d give you the first paragraph of On the Edge of Trust that releases November 4:

A ding from her phone jerked Jenny Tremont from a sound sleep on her den sofa. She hadn’t been able to sleep and had come down to the den to watch her favorite Friday night show.

Her phone dinged again. The security camera. She grabbed her phone and clicked on the video but didn’t see anything. Maybe an animal?

She replayed the video, looking closer. This time Jenny saw it. A shadow. And it wasn’t an animal. Her sins had found her out—wasn’t that what her mother always said? That her sins would be exposed.

And that is the opening to On the Edge of Trust.

Now for the photo and verse that I thought was perfect for the photo. I took it from 2,000 feet in the air on Wednesday, and I told my friend who took me up that I was born to fly! I love it. We flew from Ocala to DeLand for lunch. I want to learn how to fly!

Here are more photos from the air:

Flying is one reason I haven’t had time to read a new book… 😉 So, I thought I’d share what’s at the top of my TBR table

Knights in Manhattan: A Reen and Joanie Detective Agency Novel (The Reen & Joanie Detective Agency Series Book 2) by Kay DiBianca.
Knights in ManhattanWHO NEEDS ARMOR? TWO LITTLE KNIGHTS IN SNEAKERS TAKE ON THE BIG APPLE…

A gang of tricky thieves in on the loose in Manhattan, but no need to worry. The Reen & Joanie Detective Agency is on the case. The two pint-sized detectives track the crooks through some of the most famous landmarks in New York, but can the girls decode the strange clues and stop the criminals before they get away?

Hamsters, secret passageways, and a seven-year-old genius named Miles all contribute to this fun, action-packed romp through the streets and buildings of Manhattan.

I read the first book in this series (Another Side of Sunshine) and highly recommend it (and this one even though I haven’t read it yet) for your middle grade reader…and for any adult who enjoys a good story!
You can purchase it here!
Next on my TBR list is Priscilla Betts’ Whispers of a Southern Moon

Whispers of a Southern Moon by Priscilla BettisAn artistic, new collection of inspirational fiction and poetry by Priscilla Bettis.

Includes the award-winning story “Fix Your Face,” a “wonderful Southern Gothic piece akin to the work of Flannery O’Conner!”—Brooke Dreger, Editor, Solid Food Press

A simple man in rural Alabama risks his sanity to keep his sister alive. Lines of poetry celebrate the symphony of a Southern night. A sentient house deep in Virginia’s Great Dismal Swamp lures those it seeks to protect.

In Whispers of a Southern Moon, Priscilla Bettis intertwines short stories and poetry to create an inspirational collection of literary fiction and verse. Bettis explores questions about faith, love, and our perceptions of reality, and she does so with an elegant but fierce grip on the reader. This collection spans everything from Southern Gothic prose to Biblically inspired haiku. By the end of the collection, readers will be encouraged that even in the most twisted circumstances, God is present, and we are loved.

You can read it in KU or purchase it here.

I can’t wait to read both of these! What’s on your TBR Table?

Have you ever wondered why Border Collies are so good at herding sheep? One reason is The Stare. Here’s a short video of Maddie staring down Evie. I tried to download it to my website, but it didn’t work. So here’s a link to the short, cute video!

Today’s song is one I’ve loved from the first time I heard it!

The opening to On the Edge of Trust is fantastic! It’s going to be a great read. Maddie’s quite good at “the stare,” LOL! I’ve read Knights in Manhattan. It’s such a cute mystery, loved it. SQUEEEEE! You’re going to read my little collection?! Thank you!

Awesome. You are on a roll, and I don’t know when you’ll be right-side-up.
I’ve been in a 360 degree roll in a forestry helicopter. I don’t wish that for you in a fixed wing aircraft, but enjoy and keep writing.

I wouldn’t want to do a 360 roll in any helicopter, Delores. lol There is a lot of differences between the two planes I’ve been in lately. The smaller plane is a sports plane and much faster.

  3. Barbara Diggs

Fun post, Pat. Oh, oh, oh those clouds. I’m not even going to begin my search of pics. I’m just going to enjoy them.

    Both books look fabulous.

Priscilla, I already know of two more people who would thoroughly enjoy your book. I’m going to recommend it today.

I’ll bet you recognize this one, Pat. “Black roses last week, now spidery words scrawled on a scrap of paper with “Meade Funeral Home” printed across the top. Yep, it’s Shadows of the Past by you. I’m rereading The Logan Point Series, but may have to dash ahead to Edge of Trust, then go back. Such a wonderful series!!!

I have good friends in Deland. How fun that you all flew there for lunch! Blessings.

Oh, my goodness, Barbara–you have friends in DeLand–that’s a regular destination for lunch around here. lol And I’m glad you are re-reading Shadow of the Past before starting On the Edge of Trust. It gives a lot of Scott’s backstory.

Spectacular photo, and the perfect verse to match it with. I love flying in a small plane…in theory. In practice, my inner ear says “NOoo”. 🙂

I’m currently reading “Escaping the Wilderness” by Carrie Parks. In the opening chapter, we read, “Dimly she heard receding footsteps, a yell, more shuffling gravel. She moaned. Then blackness.”

    My current TBR is
Double Protection Duty by Sharon Dunn
    Defending You by Robin Patchen
Out of Time by Irene Hannon
On the Edge of Trust by Patricia Bradley (preordered)

Beautiful photo of the clouds and you get such a different and glorious view from an airplane.
Looking forward to reading On The Edge of Truth.
I love the GVB and the song Way Maker. Thanks for sharing!
The next two books on my TBR list are Enigma by Christy Barritt, and Grave Consequences by Elle Kay.
    Blessed weekend everyone!

My TBR is very full this October. I just finished Echoes of a Silent Song by Amanda Wen- spectacular! And equally so The Bell Tolls at Traeger Hall by Jaime Jo Wright.
Now on to your book, Through Each Tomorrow by Gabrielle Meyer, Dark Design by Nancy Mehl and Sense and Suitability by Pepper Basham.

I’m currently reading Rescued Heart by Angela Hunt. “I stood in my grandfather’s chamber and waited, my faith minuscule and my confidence nonexistent.”
I remember my family took several small air plane rides with a pilot needing air time. My parents were appalled when on one ride, my teenage vanity caused me to go without my glasses. I couldn’t even see the cows in the fields as we passed over.

That is fun that you got to fly to lunch. Both books sound good. October is full of books to read. I started Sense and Suitability this week and next up is Death on a Scottish Train(cozy mystery), The Christmas Ring by Karen Kingsbury, and more.

I like the picture and the verse. I have never had the opportunity to fly in anything smaller than a 10-12 passenger corporate jet, not the same as what you were flying in. However, if the small prop planes are at all like the twin-engine prop jets from back in the 70s and 80s, I prefer sticking to the real jets. The times I flew in prop jets, they had a tendency to hang around in the clouds too long rather than climbing above the clouds.

The Gaither video was enjoyable. My wife and I are going to Thomas Road Baptist Church this coming Friday and Saturday for Gaither Homecoming 2025. We are really looking forward to it.

I think the book I started yesterday has already been used. However, some time back, I did a first read on Robin Patchen’s Defending You, The first line reads:
Cici Wright smiled when she stepped into Mr. Delvecchio’s Philadelphia jewelry store.

The planes I flew in were twin props–an RV7 and a Cherokee Archer. We mostly flew around the clouds or above them, It was exhilarating! I would love to go to a Gaither Homecoming! Love your first line.
