Malicious Intent ~ Reader Friday

Malicious Intent; Psalm 18:1-2

Malicious Intent by Lynn H. Blackburn is this week’s Reder Friday post. Here’s the first line: The stack of cash on his desk was as close to genuine currency as squeeze cheese was to Brie.

Now for the photo and verse. The photo is one i took a year or so ago one afternoon as I walked my neighborhood. I loved the way the contrails crossed the sky. And I came across the verse this morning in my Bible reading, and the words resonated with me. God is still in the miracle business because once again, He gave me the words to finish the book! I couldn’t have done it without Him!

Now for Malicious Intent by Lynn H. Blackburn. Here’s the cover and back copy:

Malicious Intent by Lynn H. Blackburn

Dr. Ivy Collins, founder and CEO of Hedera, Inc., is ready to begin clinical trials of her company’s cutting-edge prosthetic. Her work has been heralded by government, medical, and advocacy groups and everyone hopes the device will be a success. Well, almost everyone. Someone is trying to sabotage Hedera and the launch, but to what purpose–and how far will they go to get what they want?

Meanwhile, U.S. Secret Service Agent Gil Dixon can’t believe he’s finally been reunited with Ivy, his childhood best friend. Now that he’s found her again, Gil intends to spend the rest of his life with her. But it will take all his skill to uncover the truth in time to save Ivy’s life’s work, her own life, and the innocent lives caught in the crossfire.

Perfectly balancing chilling suspense and uplifting romance, award-winning author Lynn H. Blackburn delivers a story of revenge, greed, and overcoming that you won’t want to put down no matter how late it gets.

My Take:

Like most books I’ve been reading the past six weeks, I picked this book up, intending to read a chapter or two and then going to sleep. If you have that in mind, then this isn’t the book for you. Oh, my goodness! I read until midnight and forced myself to put it down because I had to get up early the next morning. Ivy is wealthy and smart, actually brilliant, but she is haunted by her mother’s  actions when Ivy was a teenager. She can’t face her friends after her mother stole money from them.

Gil Dixon never could understand why Ivy cut his family off–he never blamed Ivy for what her mother did. But she’s back in his life and he wants a second chance for their romance. But…someone is trying to kill Ivy and sabotage her company. And Gil is charged with protecting her.

But what if his love distracts him, and he can’t protect her? And that’s why I kept turning the pages on the fast-paced thriller with enough twists and turns to make a romantic suspense reader happy.

Photos with contrails are fascinating to me. Some I see are from planes out of Tucson International Airport, but more frequently they are from A-10 Thunderbolts (the Warthogs) from Davis-Monthan AFB located about 10 miles from me. I think of the loud sound when they pass as the sound of freedom, and that fits the verse you chose because God ultimately is the source of our freedom.

I love Lynn’s books, and “Malicious Intent” was a very good read.

“The body lying on the front porch wasn’t included in Mackenzie Steele’s vacation home rental.” is the first line of Susan Sleeman’s book “Solid as Steele”. This is book 5 of her Steele Guardians series. Susan’s books are always solid Christian suspense stories.

I agree about the sound the jets make, Tim. I was in Titusville, FL once when the space shuttle came in. The organizers had us go out and wait for it and soon this huge shuttle silently floated by and a few seconds, can’t remember how many, BOOM! Still get chill bumps thinking about it.

I’ve read some of the Steele books and am starting one tonight.

I love the first line of Malicious Intent! It’s peevish but in a cute way. I am reading The Teacup Conspiracy, a Christian cozy by Jackie Zach. The first line: Gia Baxter dodged into the Tea & Cakes corner shop to avoid the sudden spurt of spring rain.

I read Malicious Intent back in May and it was a good read! You are correct, it does keep you up past midnight.

I love that you post the photos and Scriptures. They always seem to be spot on in my life.

‘ “Sarah Jeane Rogers”, she muttered. “Elizabeth Jeane Jones.” which ID to use this time?’ This is the first line from Never Miss, by Melissa Koslin and is about a former CIA sniper who possesses a special set of skills and a rare pedigree.

I never should have come. What was he even doing here? What had he been thinking? From Cold Light of Day by Elizabeth Goddard.

Great scripture/photo combo. I enjoyed Lynn’s book, too. And all of her books.
Tim, living in the Florida Panhandle, we see and hear many military jets and also use the term, “the sound of freedom.”

Gloria, I’m guessing that would be near Pensacola. I have a friend who lives there. Back some decades ago, I used to watch the TV series Pensacola Wings of Gold.

Close but the other end of the panhandle in Panama City, Tim. We have Tyndall AFB and other bases between here and Pensacola. I never watched the show, but it sounds like a good series.

Cold Light of Day is a great book! I’m currently reading Expired Return by Lisa Phillips – “Pepper pulled into the police department parking lot. She stared at the building and tried to figure out how long since she’d been inside for a visit.”

This comes from Abducted in Alaska by Darlene L. Turner: Border patrol officer Hannah Morgan stepped through the doors of the Canadian Services Border Agency station in Beaver Creek, Yukon. Movement at the tree line caught her eye, jarring her from the winter conditions. What was that? A young boy emerged from the tree cover, stumbling through the blizzard…coatless.

I have been behind all week. This is just another case of being further behind than I realized. I saw the email yesterday and meant to return to it after I finished a couple of pressing tasks. I finished, but I never got back to emails.

That is a great picture. I enjoy looking up and seeing the contrails. I read a book by a Canadian author recently where she used a different expression for contrails. I can’t think now what it was. The Scripture verse fits so well.

    I am reading Sara Davison’s second book in The Mosaic Collection in her “two sparrows for a penny series.” The title is Every Flower of the Field. I thought it was releasing on Valentine’s Day but discovered just now that it released in paperback on February 2. The first line is;
Darkness had fallen over the house like the ninth plague of Egypt.

I’m enjoying the book but not getting enough time to read. I hate to put it down but other things are pressing.

I’ve not read a whole lot of suspense this past year and a half or so….I blame Covid for all the drama we’ve all lived through for real…lol! BUT…Lynn Blackburn is one I’d love to “discover”, never having read anything by her yet. I do so love a well written CF suspense laced with romance 🙂

I’ve been on a Regency period read lately & here’s the first line of my current book “Bargaining for the Barrister” by Anneka R. Walker:

    London, England
    May 28th, 1821
A man of intelligence could easily retain his fortune–unless, of course he also possesed a charitable heart.
