Lynette Eason’s Double Take ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 44 Comments

Lynette Eason’s Double Take is this week’s Reader Friday! It’s a New Year and I’m glad to be back with the Reader Friday post! I haven’t had a lot of time to read during the last few months of 2023, but I did find time to read this gripping story.

But first the photo and verse. I just happened to walk out of my neighbor’s house and saw this beautiful sky. Since I had my phone with me, I captured the image and now I’m sharing it with you.  We’ve had several magnificent scenes like this lately, some I’ve caught and some I simply stared at in awe.

Now onto Lynette Eason’s Double Take. Here’s the back copy and cover:

Lynette Eason's Double TakeDetective James Cross has been honorably discharged from the Army Criminal Investigation Division due to wounds sustained when an IED blew up near him. Now with the Lake City Police Department, he’s rooming with this good buddy and partner, Cole, while he figures out his family dynamics.

Physician Assistant Lainie Jackson is eighteen months out from an attempted murder perpetrated by her ex, which ended when she managed to grab the weapon and shoot him. When he appears to have survived and is back to finish the job he started, Lainie insists it’s not possible. But someone keeps trying to kill her, and she keeps seeing his face.

My take:

Oh, my goodness. This story grabbed me from the first page and kept me reading most of the night. Lynette Eason knows how to hook readers from the first page and keep them hooked to the end!

I was immediately drawn to Lainie Jackson by her courage and was rooting for the romance to develop between her and James Cross, who is swoon-worthy! They both had traumatic experiences in their past that could have easily kept the romance from going anywhere.

This is an intriguing story–is the man who tried to kill Lainie alive? Or is it someone who looks like him? Just about when I thought I had it figured out, Eason would twist the story and make me doubt my thoughts. She is a master at twists. Romantic suspense readers, don’t miss this one! While I received a digital copy of Double Take, I ordered a print copy–I wanted my very own copy. This is a story you don’t want to miss!

Last year I read 60 books and this year I’m planning to read somewhere around that same number. How about you? Do you set a reading goal each year? Leave me a comment about your reading goal or Lynette Eason’s book and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!

In exactly 1 month and 1 day, Fatal Witness releases! You can still preorder a print copy from Baker Bookhouse for 40% off and free shipping. Here’s the link. Or you can find digital links here.

Pat, your eye for beautiful photo scenes, and your choice for matching Scripture always make a good start to my day. Thank you.

When I read your synopsis of “Double Take”, I could not remember reading this book, and I’ve read all of Lynette’s books. Hmm. Now I know why, but not how I missed it. Usually, I preorder books from authors I follow, but this one evaded my radar. That has been remedied, and I will read it next week when it drops on to my Nook.

I do not have a reading goal, except to keep reading. I’m reading some book every day. I’m currently reading “Steele” by Laura Scott. This is the first book of her Oath of Honor series. These all take place in the Milwaukee area, and she keeps the characters of her prior Milwaukee series books involved. There is a strong sense of continuity, and the impression that these are real people with real lives. They don’t just disappear at the end of the series. Susan Sleeman does this as well. “Harper Crane huddled in her winter coat as she hurried along the snowy sidewalk. She absolutely hated parking in downtown Milwaukee, especially in January, but it couldn’t be helped.” is the beginning of this book. It’s pretty exciting, and Laura always has a strong Christian backing to her stories.

Be still my pounding heart! That photo!!! WOW!!! Gorgeous, Pat! The colors look bold enough to split open the sky! I love the two streetlights. Because of the angle, they kind of remind me of lampposts in London. The Scripture could not be more perfect for this delightful photo. Midway down the first pole, I see a man with a cap on sitting on a horse.

My goal was to read 40 books last year. Since I was sick most of the year, I got in 153. I don’t have a goal for this year, just read and enjoy!

Double Take is in the mail. I can hardly wait to read it. Lynette will be at my local library in Feb. for a book signing. So, I’ve been encouraging friends to get her book and go meet her.

One month and one day! Yay!!! 🙂

Anything by Lynette Eason is great! I did not meet my goal of 150 last year. (129) So I lowered it to 100 for this year. I have more vision problems and read slower as I age!

Always love to see your pictures and read the Scripture! Keep up the good work!

I typically read 2-4 books a week. Depends on how busy I am. I lovecto read Love Inspired books as well. They are quick reads at about 55,000 words.

Your photo is amazing, Pat! Double Take sounds exciting. Thanks for sharing your review. I don’t feel a need to set a reading goal, but Goodreads prompts me every year, so I do. I picked a goal of 52 Christian fiction and nonfiction books.

I just finished Double Take this week and wow! It is another winner by Lynette. I set a goal of 75 books and read 116 in 2023. My goal for 2024 is 80 books.

Double Take arrived in my mailbox today, Gloria! And I think I set a goal of 60 books this year. I know I read more than that this year, but I forgot to add them to Goodreads. lol

The picture and verse fit so well together. You have taken some really beautiful pictures. The book sounds really good. Lynette’s books are always on my favorites list. I was able to finish 36 books last year. I just started reading The Warsaw Sisters by Amanda Barratt. Antonina. August 31, 1939. Warsaw, Poland. Antonina-and-Helena. That was how I remembered our names. Spoken in a single breath, always blended together.

I don’t like to set a number goal. I read 45 books in 2023. But, my most important goal accomplishment for 2023 was reading a chronological Bible through in a year.

Awesome, Suzanne! In case you didn’t view my video, that is what I challenged readers to do–read through the Bible this year! And the Chronological Bible is a great way to do that. Let me know how you do!

Wow! Beautiful picture. The heavens were truly declaring the glory of God.

I will definitely be looking for Lynette’s new book. I’ve been following her for six or seven years. I went to the library yesterday and checked out one of her earlier three-book series that I had not read.

I join the Goodreads reading challenge each year. My goal last year was 72: I read 74. I dropped my goal to 60 this year because it seems I keep getting interruptions in my reading schedule.

    Enjoy your weekend.

I’m a little slow this week – LOL
WOW – just WOW! Your photo is breathtaking!
Looking forward to reading Double Take – Lynette is one of my favorite authors. I haven’t read any of her books that I did not enjoy and I have read most if not all of them.
I enjoy your book reviews Pat – thank you for doing this. You have introduced me to some new authors over time

I’m a little behind too this week, but I had to comment on your photo, it is a big WOW! Absolutely beautiful and Psalm 19:1 describes it perfectly!
I’m so glad your Reader Friday is back, I love the book reviews so I can get first hand on what’s good to read, and Double Take is definitely a must read.
I don’t have a clue on how many books I read last year, I’ve never set a goal. I just know I’m always reading and when I finish one, I immediately start another. My cataract surgeries kinda put out me of commission for a couple of months but I’m back on track now, and currently reading “Forged In Love” by Mary Connealy. She usually writes about the old west days and her books are pretty good.
I’m looking forward to your new one next month!
