Hostile Intent ~ Reader Friday

Hostile Intent; Psalm 121:1-2

Hostile Intent by Lynette Eason is this week’s Reader Friday. I absolutely could not put this down and stayed up until 1:30 to finish it… a fantastic read!

But first the Scripture verse and photo: this is in honor of Delores being in Israel for a few days, I took the photo while I was there in 2018. That’s the Dead Sea and I was standing at En Gedi when I took it.

Now for Hostile Intent by Lynette Eason. Here’s the cover and back copy:

Ava Jackson entered the military shortly after high school, but her mother’s illness forced her to request an early discharge. She already lost her father while deployed, and there’s no way she’s going to let her mother die alone. But after a visit to the nursing facility where her mother lives, Ava is attacked walking back to her car. Fortunately, FBI Special Agent Caden Denning arrives in time to help fight off her attacker.

Caden reveals to Ava that she may hold the key to the murders of three families, and he needs her help before anyone else is harmed. The hits show a pattern, and clearly the killer has an agenda. But if Caden and Ava can’t discover what it is, Ava may be next on the hit list.

My Take:

Like I said, I stayed up until 1:30 to finish Hostile Intent. Eason is a master at creating twists and turns and this book is no exception. She created great characters–  Ava is strong, and brilliant, and constantly surprises Caden. And Caden is a good match for Ava. He’s comfortable with who he is, so her strengths don’t threaten him–I like to see that in a hero!

At fifteen, Ava discovered her dad was in the CIA and kept his secret until his death. Her dad is also why a serial killer is after Ava. Like I said, this book is full of twists and turns–every time I thought I had it figured out, a twist took the story in another direction. If you like fast-paced stories with twists and turns, you’ll love this book.

Coming in May 2023!

Alexis Stone has no sooner been sworn in as the chief deputy for Russell County, Tennessee, when a serial killer dubbed the Queen’s Gambit Killer strikes again–this time in her hometown. Pearl Springs is just supposed to be a temporary stop along the way to Alex’s real dream: becoming the first female police chief of Chattanooga. But the killer’s calling card–a white pawn and a note with a chess move printed on it–cannot be ignored.

Pearl Springs chief of police Nathan Landry can’t believe that his high school sweetheart Alexis (he refuses to call her Alex) is back in town, and he can’t help wanting to protect the woman he never stopped loving. But as the danger mounts and the killer closes in, can Nathan come through on the promises he makes to himself to bring a killer to justice before it’s too late?

That is one of my favorite series by Lynette. Have them all!
Your book looks so intriguing. Do you play chess? Or did you have to learn in order to write the book?

Paula, Lynette just seems to keep getting better and better even though her earlier books are great. 🙂 As for chess, I played years ago but for this book, I had a chess master help me–he told me what moves for the killer to use. 🙂

A beautiful photo linked to one of my favorite Scripture verses. Thank you, Pat.

I love all of Lynette’s suspense books. She is one of the sharpest writers today. She was the second Christian suspense author I started reading, right after Irene Hannon. “Hostile Intent” is a great read.

“She hit the key fob to unlock the car while she was still in the doorway. A large explosion rocked the earth, sending her flying backward into the restaurant.” “Explosive Truth” by Laura Scott gets off to an exciting start in this new series called “Finnegan First Responders”.

Loved seeing more of your Israel photos. They always bring back precious memories. That just reminded me. It was January 10, 1973, 50 years ago, that I was in Israel! Now I need to look at my photos.

Oh yes, Hostile Intent by Lynette Eason was a fantastic book! I couldn’t put it down, either.

I’m getting ready to start Dangerous Beauty, by Melissa Koslin. The first couple of lines are: “She ran. She’d finally orchestrated an opportunity, and she’d run. Twigs snapped under her bare feet. She hardly felt the pain. It was the sound that rattled through her. They’ll hear. They’ll find me .”

Cannot wait to read Counter Attack!!!! It’s going to be another great book and series.

Oh, wow! Fifty years ago, Barbara! I imagine it has changed significantly. My friend, Delores Topliff, is on her way now to Israel. She may have been there 50 years ago…the first time she went, she spent 36 days. And Dangerous Beauty sounds heart-stopping.

Delores was there for 36 days? Wow! What a blessing. I’m sure she’ll have some good stories to share from this trip.
When I was there, it was pretty barren. I think meant trees have been planted since then.

Lynette is a favorite author of mine, and this series is great. I just finished her new book, Critical Threat, earlier this week. I am reading Together for the Twins by Laurel Blount. The first line:
Lunch at Burger Burger had been a disaster, and the drive back to the Cedar Ridge Public Library wasn’t going much better.

Think of it. God made that sea, the mountains, the sky, and the clouds in the sky! He did all of that and so much more, so he can certainly help us when we need it and rely on Him. Great picture and verse.

I just finished reading Driftwood Tides by Gina Holmes last night. It’s not her first book, but it’s the first one of hers that I have read. First line: The pillow pushed against Holton Creary’s nose, forcing him to turn for air.

Beautiful picture. The verse hits it well. Hostile Intent was so good. I enjoyed the series. I’m looking forward to reading your new book. It sounds like a great storyline. I’m reading The Rose and the Thistle by Laura Frantz. Struck by sunlight, the sprawling chateau was a blinding, rose-hued white. I’m really enjoying it so far. Have a great weekend!
