Grace Immeasurable–Reader Friday

Grace Immeasurable; Psalm 118:1

Grace Immeasurable by Gina Holder is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: “EIGHT YEARS AGO: Kylie Phillips gazed at the closed silver casket holding her dad’s body and didn’t cry.”

More about the story in a bit, but first the photo and Scripture verse. I was supposed to post photos my granddaughter took, but I can’t find them. I’ll have to text my daughter to send them again! Maybe next week. But, this photo was taken on my last night in Florida. They have some of the most beautiful sunsets. The colors are so vibrant! And when I read Psalm 118:1 this morning, I knew I wanted to use it with the photo.

In case you’ve wondered how I find some of my verses, I’m reading through the bible using the NIV Seasons of Reflection book. I found it two years ago when I was cleaning up my office and giving away books I hadn’t read in years. I’m glad I didn’t give away this book that I’d had since 1998! This is my second year using it to read through the Bible.

Now for Grace Immeasurable by Gina Holder. Here’s the cover and back copy:

Grace Immeasurable by Gina Holder She’s a modern-day damsel. He’s her self-appointed knight. Who will rescue whom?

Kylie just wants to run her café without people thinking she’s a damsel in distress. That proves difficult when a man claiming to be her half-brother reveals buried family trauma and forces Kylie to face the scars of her childhood.

Peter doesn’t mean to be a knight in shining armor, but as her proverbial big brother, he decides to uncover the truth about Kylie’s semi-sibling, while trying to make peace with his own mistakes.

Unearthing the past leads to a danger greater than either ever expected. In the end, who will rescue whom?

My Take:

Grace Immeasurable by Gina Holder is the third book in the Shadows Over Whitman series, and it’s a perfect wrap-up! I’ve wanted to see Kylie get her own story ever since she showed up as a minor character in the other two books in the series.

Kylie owns Hill of Beans, a coffee shop so named because her father always told her she’d never amount to a “hill of beans, and she was out to prove him wrong. To do that, Kylie thought she couldn’t accept help from anyone, not even her best friend, Peter.

Peter only wants to be her protector and best friend, except he starts seeing Kylie in a romantic sort of way. That confuses him. He doesn’t want to risk their friendship but confound it, she makes his heart do funny things. And prickly–he never knew Kylie to be that way.

The story has twists and turns I never saw coming except in hindsight. There’s a half-brother (maybe) who shows up and causes all sorts of trouble. One of my favorite characters was Mr. Verne who wore five watches so if anyone asked why,  he could tell them about Jesus. It’s also a story about learning how to forgive–others and ourselves.

It’s a book I think mystery/suspense and romance readers will enjoy, although the romance is more about a relationship than straight-out romance. 🙂

This is the third book and although it’s a stand-alone, I think it’d be better if you read the series to learn some of the back stories. You can find links to purchase here.

Leave a comment about the book or the first line of the book you’re reading and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.

Yes, the sunset colors are vibrant! How ’bout that? You can still get Seasons of Reflection new on Amazon. Fabulous review, and I love the name of Kylie’s coffee shop.:-)

A fitting Scripture to go with the aftermath of disaster. The photo works well with it.

I’ve noticed more than a few authors have come up with catchy names for the coffee shops their characters run. I can’t remember the author, but I believe one was called “Legal Grounds”. Oh, and Robin Patchen has a character named Josie Smith who operates “Cup of Josie” and has her story told in “Lineage of Corruption”.

“Someone was in the mortuary prep room. Someone besides her and the body in the cooler awaiting tomorrow’s autopsy. Someone who shouldn’t be here. Forensic pathologist Grace Reilly set aside the police report on seventy-six-year-old Mavis Templeton and cocked her ear.” is the opening to “Body of Evidence” by Irene Hannon. The first Christian suspense novel I read was one of Irene’s. Like all of her earlier books, this one is great.

Oh my! What a fabulous sunset. This has to be my newest favorite. The Scripture fits the bill perfectly. I love how God gives us a breath of beauty each day with His magnificent sunsets, sunrises, skies….

You’ve got me hooked on Grace Immeasurable and the rest of the series. I just wrote it down in my “to be purchased” book. Gulp! I have 14 books being shipped now.

I’m getting ready to read DiAnn Mills’ Concrete Evidence. “Avery Elliott spurred her horse across one of the thirty-five thousand rolling acres of the Brazos River Ranch in the blazing heat.”

Thanks, Barbara. I think every next sunrise and sunset is my favorite! lol. Be sure to order all three and read them in order. Like I said, this is a stand-alone, but you’ll enjoy catching up on all the characters in the other books.

Where in Florida were you for the sunset photo? It looks so much like sunsets I’ve been seeing in Panama City. First line: Skylar Austin trailed along in a line of veterans and their families waiting for their VIP tour of the White House. Defense Breach by Lisa Phillips

Hi, Sally Jo. I was in Loxahatchee in Palm Beach County. My daughter lives about 30 miles from West Palm Beach. Lovely place. I think about moving down there and may in the future…

    I also love the scripture.
    As
long with another of your followers, I am reading Concrete Evidence by Dianne Mills.
Avery Elliott spurred her horse across one of the thirty-five thousand rolling acres of the Brazos River Ranch in the blazing heat.

I am about 3/4 through the book and there have been many changes of possibilities of ‘who-do-its’ than still remain a mystery. It may not be whom I be whom I might be guessing. hmm

Great photo! We have been having some beautiful sunsets. I just finished Body of Evidence, Tim, and it was an awesome end of the series. I am reading Kill Them With Canvas by Bailee Abbott and the first line is: “Husb, Max. You’re scaring away the ducks.”

I’ve only read “Forgiven Again” in this series & it’s been a while. As far as I know, I enjoyed it 🙂 I’ll have to check this one out too!

I’ve been reading quite a bit of books through Kindle Unlimited so the one I’m about to start is called “A Chance for Cecily”. It’s book one of the Last Chance Brides series written by various authors and takes place in 1894 after both a drought the year before and now crop failure. Leaving several women widows or without men due to either death or many departing the area. The remaining women must convince men to take a chance not only on rebuilding the town but also in marriage (I think some are mail-order brides/or grooms). I read the series before it (The Blizzard Brides) and enjoyed them so much that I was thrilled to find a spin-off series! They are shorter stories that take maybe a day or two to finish and I get that happily-ever-after along with faith-filled stories & characters to love 🙂 Since I’ve been in a bit of reading funk, these help get me through.

Here’s the summary of the story on the front page:
“She wants to save her home; he has the means to save it. Will their fierce tempers spark a blazing love or burn a drought-ravished town to the ground?”

That scripture is so familiar, we sing it in church as a praise song!

That is a beautiful picture, and the verse is so appropriate.

I am doing a first read on Susan Sleeman’s book to be released soon, Made of Steele. I can’t share the first line but I will say that the book is as exciting as Susan’s other books in her Steele Guardian series. The book you shared about sounds like a great read. I hope I can find time to read it.

Thanks, Edward! I know what you mean about finding time! I have Susan’s series on my Kindle, but lately I’ve been so tired when I go to bed, I go right to sleep instead of reading. Soon, though…
