Finding You, Deception and Danger in Shadow Cove (The Wright Heroes of Maine Book 3) by Robin Patchen is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: “The morning sun glared down at Hasan Mahmoud, and he glared right back.”
But first the photo and verse. I promised a photo of a Magnolia full of blooms and here it is. I think they are some of the most beautiful trees there are. And they smell so good! I wonder why no one has bottled the aroma. I thought the verse went well with the photo. 🙂
Now for Finding You, Deception and Danger in Shadow Cove (The Wright Heroes of Maine Book 3) by Robin Patchen
Don’t miss this race-against-the-clock story of suspense and intrigue from a USA Today bestselling author.
One obscure Babylonian artifact in the hands of terrorists could bring down an entire city…
When antiquities professor Bryan Wright is tasked with discovering why a band of terrorists might target a museum in Munich, he teams up with the museum’s attractive exhibit designer to study their ancient artifacts. Something in this collection holds special value to the terrorists, and Bryan must figure out which item and why—before enemies get their hands on it.
An American living in Munich, Sophie Chapman wouldn’t have expected to be attracted to a musty old antiquities professor—but this guy is neither musty nor old. Even so, she’s not ready for a new boyfriend, considering she hasn’t figured out how to get rid of the old one. When her apartment is broken into, she has bigger worries than the ex who won’t leave her alone.
The seemingly random break-in is anything but. Terrorists are closing in, and their plot will destroy more than the romance growing between Bryan and Sophie. It’ll destroy everything they hold dear.
Terrorism, romance, and a 20-year-old mystery with shades of Raiders of the Lost Arc thrown in. The stakes couldn’t be higher as evil men plot to take down their enemies–and any innocent civilians who get in their way. And that’s just one part of their plan.
My Take:
I loved Finding You by Robin Patchen and read until past midnight last night to finish it. The characters are so well drawn, especially Sophie and Bryan! They are both flawed, but trying to find God’s will for their lives. I loved that Bryan didn’t think of himself as a hero, but he certainly was!
I’m liking these books that take place in places like Germany and the Middle East. It gives me a better picture of the world. The opening line is in the villain’s POV and he’s a bad one…but not the baddest. 🙂
Sophie is a great character–independent and brave, but willing to listen to BryLooan when it’s important. Their banter was so good. I really wanted them to get together…you’ll have to read the book to find out. And I can’t wait until the next book in the series drops into my inbox!
Readers of Christian romantic suspense and thrillers will really enjoy this book.

I love the way magnolias sound when it’s windy. Like the ocean. Better than one of those white-noise machines.
I’m reading a nonfiction book by a friend of mine, Knowing Our Savior by J.V. Lewis. The first line: “At the end of Peter’s second letter, he admonishes us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” It’s turning out to be an interesting book!

I don’t think I’ve ever heard the magnolias in the wind, Priscilla! Of course, I don’t have one in my yard, but my neighbor does and next time we have wind, guess where I’m going!
I forgot to say–congratulations on Fatal Witness being featured in Mississippi Magazine. That is so cool!
Author
Thank you! It’s quite an honor, Priscilla.
Magnolias are special trees, and I like your photo of that one, Pat. You chose a powerful verse to go with it.
I have “Finding You” already on my Nook, along with a whole bunch of others that have dropped recently. Like many of you, I think, I’ve gotten to like so many authors (thanks, Pat) that I can’t keep up with them. They all write too many books too quickly. What a nice problem to have! Robin’s books are hard to put down.
“Kneeling close to the front of the car, he found blood on the bumper and a wretched dent crunching up the left headlight. Light still streamed out of it, but it was splintery and skewered because of the shattered plastic. A mangled beam of light. Part of it lanced off to the side. A dog. It must’ve been a dog. But there was no fur in the grille on the front of the car.” is the beginning of Steven James’ latest book, “Fatal Domain”. This is an amazing book. Steven has several lines of the story going at once, and a few going back to an earlier time, as well. I’m reminded of Tom Clancy’s style, and Steven’s is every bit as good a thriller. He has also done his homework; right down to some cutting edge physics!
Author
Thank you, Tim! I’m glad you enjoyed the photo and verse. And Steven James is an amazing writer. (He’s also a great teacher) I’ll have to get this one–it sounds gripping!
Tim, thanks for sharing about Steven James’ book. I hope to get my hands on it in the near future. He’s one of the authors I’ve been following since he wrote The Pawn.
I’ve never seen a Magnolia tree so close to the ground before. . . always at least six feet high from the ground. This is amazing. The Scripture fits it to a tee.
Congratulations on Fatal Witness being featured in the Mississippi magazine! That IS quite an honor.
I’ve had a delightful time reading books this week. I’m on my 7th book since the last blog post. Sheer bliss. I’ve been rereading my Carrie Stuart Parks books the last two days. “The piercing scream ripped my spine. I dropped the spatula and spun. This is from Carrie’s book, Relative Silence.

Hi Barbara! We once had two magnolias at a rental property that had limbs curving to the ground, kind of creating a secret room…they were beautiful until the renters cut every limb they could reach. It ruined the trees…
I love Carrie’s books!
Hey Pat,
I would have loved your rental house magnolia with the “secret garden” room. There was a weeping willow tree somewhere in my childhood time (that I had forgotten about until you mentioned your secret garden magnolia) I loved to hide under it and draw pictures. Brought back such a great memory. Thanks for giving me a wonderful reminiscing moment! I hate that cutting the limbs ruined the tree!

I could’ve k*lled them…oops…I mean, I was really upset. I remember playing under a weeping willow when I was a child as well. Those were special days!
Barbara, I second Pat’s statement. I love Carrie’s books, too. “Relative Silence” was fantastic.
Ditto, Tim. I love her books also!!!! Lots of good minds thinking alike! 🙂
Loved the photo and verse. I will be gettinmg that book.

I think you will probably love the whole series, Judy.

I’ll have to get Connie’s story! And I’m waiting for Elizabeth Goddard’s book now.
This sounds like a really awesome book!

It is, Patricia…in fact the whole series is awesome.
The memory is never far. To let it flit away like a fearful sparrow instead of holding it close like the persistent, weary ghost it’s become would be to forget my penance for the life I took.

Oh, wow, Natalya, what an opening sentence!
book sounds great! currently between books!
I’m a bit late to the party today. It’s been one of those days when a nap seemed to be a greater need than anything else. Now, I’m trying to catch up. I’m glad you shared the picture of the magnolia tree. When you shared the picture of the flower, I incorrectly stated that the school next door had magnolia trees and cut them down. I was walking from my pickup to the front door a few days ago and looked down at the school. Actually, the magnolia tree is the only one they kept. It’s quite tall and in full bloom now. I love your picture and verse, Pat.
Congratulations on Fatal Witness being featured in the magazine. Seems it’s getting a fair amount of attention and rightly so.
I’m glad you featured Robin Patchen’s book today. I was a first reader on it and enjoyed it. I have enjoyed every book of hers that she’s written since the Nutfield Saga series. I haven’t felt at liberty to share the first line of any of them since I usually receive them a month or two before they are released in order to do a first read.
Waiting for the Rancher by Jody Hedlund will release in less than a month, so I will share the first three lines. I think that will be acceptable since it’s now available for pre-order.
“Can’t believe she’s really gonna marry a scallywag like you.” Maverick Oakley punched his best friend’s arm. “She must be desperate.”
Author
I’m glad the magnolia was saved, Edward! I have several books that I’ve read in view of endorsements and they should be releasing soon so I’ll be featuring them. Waiting for the Rancher sounds very interesting! And I totally get a nap coming before anything else…in fact, I’m thinking about that right now. lol
This book sounds good, I have the first one in the series already. And I agree about the tree being close to the ground, plus I’ve never seen one that close to a house either. That’s going to be interesting!
Congratulations on the article in the magazine, what a honor for you! Also, whatever is on the cover looks delicious!!
Author
The tree is actually growing right up against the brick. I’ve never seen that before, either, Dottie. And that recipe does look delicious! Mississipp Magazine has really good recipes. 🙂
