DL Wood’s The Vow–Reader Friday

DL Wood's The Vos; Ecc. 12:13

DL Wood’s The Vow is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first paragraph: Kate Palmer stopped on the sidewalk, turned around, and listened. For the second time as she walked up her street, she thought she sensed something. Like…someone watching her. A feeling she knew altogether too well.

Now for the photo and Scripture verse. I saw this verse on Facebook earlier today and loved it. It was written by King Solomon. For someone who had started out so well, he certainly strayed away from God, and I like to think he wrote it near the end of his life and had seen the truth in it.

Now for DL Wood’s The Vow. It’s one of ten stories in Winter Deceptions: A Collection of Christian Suspense Novellas.

Kate’s husband left her a year ago, ending their marriage without warning. But when things turn sinister, will she be able to uncover what’s really going on before the danger closes in?

My Take:

I really enjoyed this novella. It grabbed me from the first few pages when Kate found the letter from her husband stating he was leaving her. The tension didn’t let up when, a year later, she returned to the cabin they loved to get it ready for sale, and strange things began to happen. Like finding someone had been sleeping in the attic. And items had been rearranged in the cabin and some even stolen. And someone was watching her. She could feel it.

The heroine, Kate, pulled at my heartstrings as she tried to get over her husband, but it was hard with Facebook posts showing him happily married, flying all over the world with his new wife. At least Kate had her friend from childhood, Georgia and Rex, her brother.

This story was full of twists and turns I didn’t expect. It was a great read, one I think readers of romantic suspense will love.

One other note–there are ten stories in the anthology, Winter Deceptions.

The authors of Winter Deceptions have each written a brand-new novella for this collection. Some of the novellas are prequels to a series the authors have been writing for years, while other novellas introduce a new series, and still others are not connected to any series.

In this collection, readers will discover clean, faith-filled stories, with the common theme of winter and Christian suspense, along with touches of romance. For a more detailed description of each novella and to learn more about an individual author, visit the collection’s website, winterdeceptions.com.

You can preorder all ten stories in Winter Deceptions on Amazon for $2.99–a bargain! The anthology releases on August 11, 2022, a bargain.

D. L. Wood's The Vow is featured on my Reader Friday blog! A great buy at $2.99, considering you get 10 stories! Leave a comment and I'll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library. Share on X

And before I go, I have to tell you about the July sale on the first three books in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series! Standoff, Obsession, and Crosshairs are all on sale! Watch the video for more information!

I’ve been seeing this anthology recently. I need to preorder it!

My first line comes from Heirlooms by Sandra Byrd:
    March 1958
Helen Devries carefully removed her nurse’s cap, fluffing her platinum , back combed bouffant, crackling the Aqua Net laquering it in place.

Stunning photo, Pat. After reading that verse, I can only say, thank you Jesus for your rescue!

“Sylvie McLane tugged her cowboy hat down on her head as she led her favorite mare, Fanny, along the north ridge of the McLane Mountain Ranch.” is the first line of Laura Scott’s “Sealed with Strength”. This is book 4 of her U.S. Navy retired SEALs series “Called to Protect”. Moments later, someone takes a shot at her, her horse bolts, and she finds herself rolling toward a cliff. Each book is set in a different place. This one is on a ranch near a small town in Montana.

What an amazing photo! Wow! Did you take it? Excellent Scripture of truth. I like it.

Sounds like a powerful story, full of tension and suspense.

“For a few hours every Saturday morning, Erin Lawson could forget that evil existed. ” This is the first line of Elizabeth Goddard’s, Deadly Target.

I finished Morning Star, an Amish fiction, earlier this week by Charlotte Hubbard.
Spring had painted the Missouri countryside with a palette of vibrant greens and gentle pastels only God Himself could have created.

Love the picture! You really take some pretty pictures. The verse goes well.

I’m reading your soon-to-be released book and am doing a first read on the last book in Jody Hedlund’s Knights of Brethren series. The one you have reviewed sounds interesting. I am not a huge fan of novella collections. I enjoy the stories, but reviewing a collection can be tedious. 🙁

I know what you mean, Edward, about reviewing all the books. But I usually try to individually review all the ones I read–finding time to read all of them is what’s really hard. lol

What beautiful picture! The book sounds really good. I’m reading I’ll Be Seeing You by Robin Lee Hatcher. Brianna Hastings slipped into the rear of the classroom, choosing the corner with the poorest lighting.

My first lines comes from “Beyond the Tides” by Liz Johnson:

“Morning had a terrible habit of arriving too early, at least as far as Meg Whitaker was concerned. ”

LOL…I have to agree with her on that one! 😀

I’m waiting until that anthology comes out on KU so I can borrow it! Sounds really good and you get stories from 10 great authors to boot. 🙂
