Countdown by Lynette Eason ~ Reader Friday

ACountdown by Lynette Eason

Countdown by Lynette Eason is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: Sunday Morning, Mid January, Bull Mountain East of Ashville NC. Flight paramedic Raina Price looked out the window of the chopper and pointed. “There. Two of them, as reported.”

But first the photo and meme. I took the photo in Israel near the Sea of Galilee. A tourist bus almost creamed me while taking it. 🙂 I came across this verse in my Bible readings this week and immediately recognized it as a line in “Shout to the Lord,” one of my favorite songs. I even know the hand signals to sign it.

Now for Countdown by Lynette Eason. Here’s the cover and back copy:

Countdown by Lynette EasonA stalker who wants to finish what he started.

A US Marshal who’s vowed to protect his charge.

And one woman who is determined to put the past in the past.

Flight paramedic Raina Price has been running so long it’s hard to stop. To escape a dangerous stalker, she changed her name and disappeared, building a new life with the help of a friend from her time in juvie. It feels good to put her energies into saving people’s lives, but because her stalker was never found, she’s never stopped looking over her shoulder. And one can only run so far before the past finally catches up.

US Marshal Vincent Corelli’s job is to hunt down fugitives and protect those who are assigned to him. When Raina is almost killed right in front of him, he vows to protect her at all costs–whether it’s his job or not. Together they work to solve the mystery of Raina’s past. But someone is out to make sure Raina doesn’t live long enough to do it.

My take:

All I can say is don’t start this at night if you have to get up early the next morning! I made that mistake and was up way past midnight trying to find out if Raina’s stalker was going to get her.

Raina Price has been on my radar since I read the first Extreme Measures book. This is the fourth book in the series and a fitting end to it.

Raina is a flight paramedic and has been running from her past for thirteen years. This ends when she sees the boy she gave up for adoption on televisCountdown by Lynette Eason is this Week's Reader Friday. Leave a comment, letting me know if you've read the other books in the Extreme Measures series or this one or the first line of the book you're reading. Share on Xion. If the boy’s father sees him, he will know the boy is his son by the birthmark on his chin and his love so snowboarding.

Raina is an interesting character who slowly reveals her past to Vince Corell, and he is swoon-worthy!  Raina’s problem becomes his when someone tries to kill her. He’s determined to protect the woman who had intrigued him for two years now.

There are a lot of twists and turns in the story that readers of romantic suspense will enjoy.

I’ve read and enjoyed several of her books. I always look forward to the next one.
Right now I’m reading The Persistent Road by Tim Bishop. What an adventure!

Oh goodness, I’m glad the tourist bus didn’t run you over! I haven’t read any books in Eason’s Extreme Measures series, but Countdown sounds gripping!

Beautiful and inspiring photo and verse, Pat. Worth almost being flattened by another tourist 🙂

I think I’ve read every suspense work by Lynette, and have never been disappointed. You can always expect a wild ride from her writings.

What I’m reading now is… “Countdown”, so I won’t repeat the first line from it. It is a page turner, no doubt. Instead, I’ll introduce the next book in my queue.

“Shadow of Deceit” by Susan Sleeman begins with “He’d come for her. Full throttle. The proof in Mia Blackburn’s hand as he looked on—a threat in neat rows of shiny magazine letters glued to stark white paper.”

I think I’ve read all of Susan’s suspense works as well. Her characters often appear in subsequent series, so there is continuity, and the sense that her characters are real. I like that.

Glad you survived the near miss for this lovely photoshoot. Really glad!
Signing “Shout to the Lord” is truly a wonderful worship experience. Happy you can do that. 🙂

I read Countdown a few weeks ago and probably will reread the whole series soon. It was fantastic. Thanks for the good review, Pat.

I am about finished reading Ruby, by Lauraine Snelling. “Scolding never did any good,” is the first line. I’ve read six of Lauraine Snelling’s book in the last week or so and I have thoroughly enjoyed them. Most of the stories take place in the Dakotah’s, so it’s been a primitive, but delightful and intriguing ride.

Thank you, Barbara! I had to learn to sign it about 15 years ago when I did programs with our local gym for their day camps. I’m glad no one heard me since I can’t carry a tune. lol I did have a boombox and a Shout to the Lord CD. lol

I have read all the books in the Extreme Measures series, including Countdown, and enjoyed them all. Lynette Eason is one of my favorite authors. I am reading Pixels and Paints by Kristi Ann Hunter. The first line is: A bag of peanut butter M&Ms is not worth the agony I will ensure over the next hour as the visions before me burn through the backs of my eyes and imprint themselves in my brain.

    Another beautiful picture Pat!
I have Lynnette Eason’s Countdown on hold at my library and I am eager to read it. I have read her Extreme Measures Series – and most if not all of her books and like them all. One of my favorite authors.
“How Ned hated walking into a country naked.” Ned by Susan May Warren, another favorite author.
    Have a blessed weekend!

I haven’t read any of her books but it will be going on my list, which keeps growing! Are they stand alones or need to be read in order?
I love that you do this Patricia, I get so many new book ideas and authors for whatever reason I might look over. I’m currently reading Break of Day by Colleen Coble and the first line is Stupid kayak. Ella Anderson lay spread-eagle on her back on a tiny spit of land in Lake Superior.
Shout to the Lord is one of my all time worship songs, so powerful!

Ms. Dottie, I would read them in order: Life Flight, Crossfire, Critical Threat, and Countdown. I’m glad to increase your TBR list! And Shout to the Lord is also one of my all-time favorite worship songs, too.

I’ve read all of Lynette’s Extreme Measures books, and Countdown did not disappoint. You’re right, it’s hard to put down once you start it. And all of the twists and turns the story kept taking kept me guessing until the end. I loved Raina’s story.

Gorgeous picture, Pat. When we see sights like this on earth, you have to wonder what Heaven will be like. Great verse to go with the picture.

I am looking forward to Countdown since I have read the other books in the series. I have been reading Lynette’s books for 10-15 years. I’ve not been disappointed by any of them. I like that she lives four or five hours from me, and most of her books are set in places I have either visited or can at least recognize the names. I had the privilege of serving on her launch team for several of her series.

I just started reading Kelly Irvin’s Trust Me this morning. I can’t remember if this is one you reviewed, or if it was another one. The first line is: The cloying stench of pot told the same old story.

Beautiful picture! The verse fits it well. I’ve read the other books in this series. I really enjoyed them. I’m looking forward to reading Countdown. I know what you mean about not reading her books late. You won’t get any sleep. I’m reading A Beautiful Disguise by Roseanna M. White. April 1909 London, England. The narrow stone ledge beneath her bare toes, cold and sturdy, felt like bliss after three hours of wearing shoes that pinched.
