Cornered ~ Reader Friday

Cornered, Three Romantic Suspense Novellas, by Lynette Eason (In the Dark), Lynn H. Blackburn (Downfall), and Natalie Walters (Perilous  Obsession) is this week’s Reader Friday. Here’s the opening of In the Dark: The September sun had barely risen over the mountain town of Lake City, North Carolina, casting a warm, golden glow that filtered through Stephanie Cross’s kitchen window. She sipped her morning coffee, scanning the headlines of the Lake City News…”Local woman killed in tragic early morning car accident.”

But first the photo and verse. Barbara Diggs sent me this photo from her trip to Myrtle Beach, NC, and I immediately thought of the song “Shout to the Lord” and knew it was based on the verse in Psalm 98. God really showed out for Barbara that day!

Now for Cornered Three Romantic Suspense Novellas, by Lynette Eason (In the Dark), Lynn H. Blackburn (Downfall), and Natalie Walters (Perilous Obsession) Here’s the cover and back copy:

Cornered, Three Romantic Suspense Novellas“In three short romantic suspense stories, an accountant, a teacher, and a chef find themselves trapped in the unexpected webs of deceptive criminals who are willing to do whatever it takes for their evil plots to succeed”–

My take:

I truly enjoyed these three stories. Each of them are standalone and will keep you on the edge of your seat!

In The Dark by Lynette Eason

This twisty suspense features Lake City detective Tate Cooper and accountant Steph Cross. When Steph’s best friend and co-worker dies in a car accident, she cleans out her desk and discovers evidence the accident was murder. The evidence she finds puts her in the crosshairs of the killer. She joins forces with Detective Tate Cooper and the romantic sparks fly. As well as the suspense ones.

Downfall by Lynn H. Blackburn,

Cassie Quinn is asked to fill in for the chef at a famous mountain resort. When the kitchen is destroyed, and attempts are made on her life, she is forced to work with her former boyfriend Detective Donovan Bledsoe. Who broke up with her with no explanation. Will they have a second chance at romance? Not if the killer has any say-so.

Perilous Obsession

Lahela Young, the little sister of Kekoa from Walters’s S.N.A.P. Agency series, is being stalked. The stalker is determined to keep Lehela and Briggs Turner apart. This twisty story will keep you guessing who the stalker is until the end. It’s also has a sweet romance.

Okay Readers, what are you reading this week? Leave your first line in the comments or the title of your book and I’ll enter you in a November $10 gift card drawing!

It’s fun when talented authors get together and do an anthology of short stories or novellas.

“I was born beneath a wild fig tree one humid afternoon.” That’s from Beneath the Wild Fig Tree by Australian author Fiona Preston. It’s a lyrical, literary, coming-of-age story.

I just finished Julia’s Joy and haven’t started anything yet as I just had shoulder surgery. Thank you for the beautiful photo & verse. Have a blessed day.

What a beautiful photo, Barbara! I have a retired cousin who now lives in Myrtle Beach, and she loves it there. Good pairing of the Scripture verse, Pat.

“Cornered” is quickly rising in my TBR queue. It will be my next book after I finish “Shadow of Fear” by Susan Sleeman, which I just started today. Susan’s book opens with, “Kinsley dove to the concrete, her heart pounding in her chest. She had to dodge the bullets and get to her car.”

I just finished Coleen Coble’s “I Think I was Murdered”, and what a ride that was! I did not see that ending coming! Wow!

Cornered sounds like another good one! Since I’ve read all the books from these three authors in the series with these characters, I can’t wait to find out more about them!

I heard my hometown is getting some snow, and Pat you know I’m sorry to miss that! I’ll just have to “suffer” a bit longer here at Mrytle Beach. lol

And I’m a bit behind on my reading. . . . Praying for your word count!

I KNOW, Pat, can you believe it? Snow in November, and I missed it! Oh boo Hoo Hoo! Go to N. Myrtle Beach if you do. It’s not as crowded or busy as Myrtle Beach. I haven’t been here in close to 30 years. Of course location is everything. Having this oceanfront on the 7th floor was such a gift and a blessing. Thank you, God!

Would you believe that the book I am reading now is Deadly Revenge by one of the most interesting authors out there. I love your writing and this book is so interesting. I’m looking forward to reading the book with the three different stories and authors. I know if you’re one of them as you are then it’s got to be a good book.

I am reading Tooth and Claw by Craig Johnson. I found another author that I love. Diann Mills. Just finished Burden of Proof. So good and inspiring.

Well, who knew? I apparently took too long typing my reply. When I clicked “comment,” it disappeared. I guess something timed out on me. At my age, I don’t know if I can remember what I typed the first time. Maybe that’s a good thing. Anyway, I have always enjoyed sunrises at Myrtle Beach, SC. If you check out my cover photo on Facebook, the picture was taken at Myrtle Beach on 12/16/2015. At the time, I didn’t think about trying to match a scripture with it. I already had that statement in mind before I took the picture, and then snapped a number of shots to get just the one I wanted. But your choice of Bible verses for the picture above is most fitting.

I have read a few novella collections, but typically prefer the full-length books. This one sounds like one I would enjoy reading. I finished Dani Pettrey’s One Wrong Move last night and haven’t selected my next book to read yet. I’ll share the first few lines from her book: He inhaled the stiff resolution of her death. She’d seen Cyrus. Remembered him. Now he’d need to silence her before she could mention Cyrus to anyone at the gallery.

I know that feeling of watching what you’ve typed go sailing through cyberspace never to be heard from again, Edward! You did good on recapturing it. 🙂 Dani Pettrey writes a really great book…will have to get that one for sure. 🙂 I really want to go to Myrtle Beach one day…

I hope you can make that trip. Just remember that it’s in South Carolina, not North Carolina. It’s interesting that we live about the same distance from Myrtle Beach as we do from Virginia Beach. The North Carolina beaches in between the two are actually further due to the way the coastline curves. As Barbara mentioned, North Myrtle Beach is typically not as crowded as Myrtle Beach. Also, this is a better time of the year than in the summer because of lighter traffic. Of course, if your thing is to lay on the beach and bake, it’s not such a great time for that. Back in the 80s, the son of our pastor at the time went with his girlfriend and her family between Christmas and New Years. He actually saw it snowing on the beach.

The disappearing post has happened to me enough on various web sites that I’ve gotten into the habit that when I’ve finished typing, I press Ctrl-A to select all, then Ctrl-C to copy it. That way, if I need to retype, I simply press Ctrl-V back into the field. Saves a lot of work and memory cells if something goes awry.

I am reading Deadly Revenge and am on Chapter 58. I am having trouble putting this book down to sleep or do things I need to do!
