Blue Ridge Mountain Escape ~ Reader Friday

butaBlue Ridge Mountain Escape by Loretta Eidson; Isaiah 40:3

Blue Ridge Mountain Escape by Loretta Eidson is our Reader Friday. Here’s the first line: This had been the worst few days of Haley Gordon’s life.

First the photo and Scripture verse. Magnolias are blooming everywhere here in Mississippi, and they are so pretty. They smell so good, too! I wish you could smell them, but as pretty as they are, unlike God’s word, they do fade. I thought the verse went very well with the photo!

Now for Blue Ridge Mountain Escape by Loretta Eidson. Here’s the cover and back copy:

The firefighter rescued her once…Blue Ridge Mountain Escape by Loretta EidsonBut can they outrun the dangers?

A peaceful vacation is what Haley Gordon needs to put her troubles behind her. Instead, she finds herself fighting for her life against a raging forest fire. Forest Service firefighter Kendall Simpson vows to protect Haley—although he has questions about her story. With the firestorm out of control and news of escaped convicts on the mountain, can Haley and Kendall trust each other enough to survive?

My take:

All Haley Gordon wanted to do was forget her troubles for a week in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Was that too much to ask? She’d lost her job, her boyfriend turned out to be a married man–with children no less. Her dad needs heart surgery, and her friend, who was supposed to accompany her to the mountains, got sick.

If that wasn’t enough, escaped prisoners from a nearby prison broke into the cabin she rented for a week. They tied her up and left her to die in the forest fire that broke out in the area.

When Kendall Simpson found Haley in the cabin, he worried that she was working with the escaped prisoners. They run for their lives from the fire and the escapees take them hostage. Haley impresses Kendall with her courage as the two work together to outwit the convicts.

This was a fast-moving story with strong characters who rely on their faith and God as they escaped from the fire and the prisoners. Eidson gave us great insight to how rangers battle a forest fire, and how unpredictable and dangerous the fire can be. I could almost smell the smoke and feel the heat from the flames. It’s a story romantic suspense readers will enjoy!

I love the smell of magnolia blossoms! One blossom floating in a shallow bowl on the coffee table will fill up the whole room with its scent.

Fabulous review, Patricia. I think I’d enjoy the story as well as find the fire-fighting aspect interesting.

Aww! My very first book…Thank you, Audrey! It has been quite the ride. I’m working on book 17 right now. 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog and let let me know you enjoyed the book!

That is a memorable photo, Pat. The verse reminds me of the hardiness of Magnolias. When I was pretty young, my dad and I planted a sapling in our font yard in Michigan. It was one of our presents to mom on Mother’s Day. It grew quickly, and dominates the yard to this day. Mom never stopped commenting about how much she enjoyed that tree.

“Blue Ridge Mountain Escape” sounds very interesting. I think it’s time to read another “new” author’s work.

In the opening of Jodie Bailey’s “Defending from Danger” book 5 of the Rocky Mountain K-9 series: “The man maintained his position about twenty feet from her, but he adjusted his grip to center the pistol’s aim on her chest. “I want you.” The matter-of-fact tone made the words even more chilling.”

I love that verse from Isaiah, Patricia. And your photo of the magnolia blossom is gorgeous. (We had a magnolia tree in our backyard when I was growing up. I climbed that tree many times.)

Loretta’s book sounds very interesting. I need to add it to my TBR stack.

That’s a fabulous photo, Pat. Love the detail with the seeds and the leaves and branches. The Scripture fits it perfectly. Magnolias do smell delightful. Sadly, we do not have any in our neighborhood.

I so enjoyed Loretta’s first book and can’t wait to read this next one. Good review.

I love magnolia trees and their blossoms. I put this book on my wish list. I just finished Wedding at Sea by Melissa Tagg. The first line is: The houseboat bobbed on choppy waters, little more than an inky shadow against the faintest shards of moonlight.

I think I have Melissa Tagg’s book on my Kindle. If not, I’ll order it. Love her writing! I met her way back in 2010 at Susan May Warren’s first writing retreat. She is a sweetheart!

As crazy as it sounds, my daughter bought a house because a magnolia tree was in the front yard. (But the house was across the street from me, LOL.)
I’m reading Dead of Winter that releases July 11. All I can say is wow!!!

Lovely magnolia blossom! Blue Ridge Mountain Escape sounds like an interesting read. Next book up for me is Ellen Withers’ “Show Me Betrayal” (a new author to me). You posted a review of this book a week or two ago. Have a blessed weekend and a safe 4th everyone!

Beautiful picture. The verse fits it well. Great book review. I’m going to have to check it out. I’m reading A Shadow in Moscow by Katherine Reay. It’s really good so far! Moscow, Russia . January 17, 1984. Again I ask myself, Does the end draw everyone back to the beginning?

The school next door to our house has a magnolia tree in the front yard. Our public library has one also. They are fairly common here. I enjoy seeing the flowers every year. Great choice for your verse.

I am still reading Irene Hannon’s book. I’m enjoying it, but my reading time has been “scarcer than hens’ teeth.” I hope to finish tonight and get started reading Mary Connealy’s “Forged in Love.” The first line makes me want to continue reading even before I finish the other book.
