Attempted Mountain Abduction ~ Reader Friday

Patricia Bradley Reader Friday 44 Comments

Attempted Mountain Abduction by Jessica R. Patch is this week’s Reader Friday. Since it’s so hot around here, I thought I’d take you somewhere cooler…like the Great Smoky Mountains in winter. Here’s the first line:  Bridge Spencer stepped onto his cabin’s porch, shivering at the biting cold, but something icier hovered in the January wind and scraped his nerves like jagged icicles.”

But first the photo and verse. I took the photo just outside Thunder Bay at a rest area with an observation deck that provided an amazing view of Lake Superior. Did you know that Lake Superior extends into Canada? While I’m sure I was taught that in elementary school, I didn’t remember it. It is a beautiful area…in fact the whole trip with Delores Topliff was amazing.

I’ll have more about my trip in my August newsletter. If you don’t get my newsletter it would be a good time to sign up for it in the box on the right. But back to the photo and verse…I thought the verse fit very well.

Now for Attempted Mountain Abduction by Jessica R. Patch. I’ve known Jessica since 2013, and for some reason, called her Robin from the get-go. Not that it’s her name, but… Here’s the cover and back copy:

Attempted Mountain Abduction

“A clean read that had my mind spinning and my pulse pounding.” –Amazon reviewer on Cold Case Target

The only way to escape hit men in pursuit is through the icy wilderness.

Hired to protect a murdered tech mogul’s daughter, undercover bodyguard Bridge Spencer never expects his ex-fiancée to blow his cover…while she’s trying to kidnap the child. But before he and former CIA spy Wendy Dawson can figure out whose side they’re on, they’re attacked. Setting aside his heartbreak, Bridge has no choice but to team up with the woman who abruptly dumped him in a letter three years ago. Guarding the child from assailants who are after her father’s top-secret technology is priority one. But in the frigid Smoky Mountains, dangers are everywhere. The question is…which one is deadliest?

Book 1: Attempted Mountain Abduction

My Take:

Fasten your seatbelts because this story will take you on a fast ride with twists and turns you won’t see coming. Well, you will if you pay close attention, but I got so engrossed in the story, I forgot to watch for the clues.

I started reading Attempted Mountain Abduction when I went to bed at nine, and it had me flipping pages until 3 a.m. so I could finish it. I.Could.Not.Put.It.Down! And I love second-chance romances! The characters, Wendy Dawson and Bridge Spencer, drew me in as they worked to rescue Molly, who was my favorite character ever! I love the way Patch captured her logical character. Being on the autism spectrum, she was so literal, but I loved the way she trusted Wendy and then came to trust Bridge. Patch did a great job of capturing her personality.

About the time I thought I had the villain figured out, Patch threw in a story twist that had me second-guessing my thoughts. This is the first book in the Elite Protectors series, and I can’t wait for the next one to come out.

You can purchase Attempted Mountain Abduction here.

So, Readers, what are you reading this week? Leave the first line, or just say “hi”. If you do, I’ll enter you in a July drawing for one of Steve Hooley’s fine pens! You can check them out at his website.

Now for the song for today. I’m still featuring Canadian singers and was somewhat surprised to discover that George Beverly Shea was Canadian! So here he is with my favorite hymn from him.

I am not sure my reply went through. Loved the picture and verse. I have read a lot of love inspired suspense books that is how I have found some excellent authors like Jessica Patch Susan May Warren Irene Hannon Lynn Easton etc. Those and Christian Book Distributors are excellent sources for discovering authors.

Great photo and verse, Pat. I’ve never been on the Canadian side of Lake Superior, but I have a lot of great memories from the Michigan side.

Jessica Patch and Robin Patchen. I confuse their first names often. Both are favorite authors of mine, and I also enjoyed “Attempted Mountain Abduction.”

“‘You won’t see danger coming…until it’s too late.’ Those words, shared by her mother moments before her death, had defined Jo Cattrel’s life for the last three years, since she’d fled Michigan.” This is the opening of “Perilous Tides” by Elizabeth Goddard. Buckle up. This is a definite page turner.

Tim, I wonder sometimes if that’s why I call her Robin, although I hadn’t read anything by Robin Patchen at that time. But I had probably heard about her. I have Perilous Tides on Audible and will probably listen soon, like when company is coming and I have to clean the house…

Frigid Smoky Mountains and the picture of all that wonderful snow on Jessica’s book cover sure had me longing for winter. lol

Then your refreshing photo of Lake Superior. . .all I could think of was what a nice swim out to the middle of the lake in that cold, cold water.

Nothing like the words of an author to spark all kinds of thoughts. Thanks for taking us somewhere cooler, Pat.

I definitely will be reading Attempted Mountain Abduction! Once again, thanks for the riveting review.

I’m still reading the same book from last week, so won’t repeat it.

Attempted Mountain Abduction sounds exciting, but I should expect nothing less from Jessica Patch.

Wow, what a voice! And that choir! This was a treat, Pat.

Jessica R. Patch does have a way of taking hold of the reader and not letting go until the last page!

I am reading Hasty Corporeal Ink, a Christian poetry collection by Lisa Cooper. It’s based on Psalms. The first line: “The winds of midnight curl beneath the boughs.”

Yes, George Beverly Shea had an amazing voice, even in his later years. That first line of poetry made me want to go out and get the book–most of the time I don’t like poetry, but this was different.

I have read Attempted Mountain Abduction and you described it perfectly! I couldn’t put it down either.
Thank you for sharing George Beverly Shea’s How Great Thou Art. My momma had that album so listening to him sing it again was like a quick return to my childhood about 60 years ago and brought tears to my eyes, but what a happy memory!!
    Have a great weekend!!

I’m so glad you were brave enough to take that trip to MN, ND, and Canada. It was fun showing you around to even some of the more remote places AND black bears!

Love the picture and verse. They are well-matched. By the way, Lake Michigan is the only one of the five Great Lakes that is not shared by the United States and Canada, according to what I saw on Google Maps.

I have enjoyed several other books by Jessica Patch, but I haven’t read this one. Maybe one of these days, I will get to it. I just can’t find enough reading time to read all the books I want to read.

I will start reading A Wager with the Matchmaker by Jody Hedlund tonight or tomorrow. It opens:
    St. Louis, Missouri
    June 1840
She had no work and no place to live. Again.

I did not know that about the Great Lakes, Edward…well, maybe I did at one time but it was a long time ago. lol Jessica R. Patch is a great writer…I’ve read just about all her books. Jody Hedlund’s opening line is intriguing. Makes me was to run out and get it!
