Would You Insure This Person?

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 38 Comments

I am excited to present the new cover for my first Natchez Trace Park Ranger book! I love it! This is going to be a fun series to write! You can even preorder it already even though it doesn’t come out until June 5 oh, Wow, Amazon says it releases May 5!!

And now to last week’s Mystery Question: Once again I’m using myths and I’m going back to three correct answers and one false one.
  1. Cheetahs can only purr.
  2. Strawberries are classified as berries.
  3. Maine is the closest state to Africa.
  4. Nintendo dates back to the late 19th century.

And the correct answer is…#2. Can you believe strawberries aren’t classified as berries! Congrats to everyone who got the correct answer.

Now for this week’s Mystery Question: These four statements were actually turned into insurance companies after an accident. Three of them are true. I made up one. Can you guess which one?
  1. “I was minding my own business when a candle fly flew in my car and attacked me, making me run off the road.”
  2. “I was sure the old fellow would never make it to the other side of the road when I struck him.”
  3. “To avoid hitting the bumper of the car in front, I struck the pedestrian.”
  4. “The telephone pole was approaching fast. I was attempting to swerve out of its path when it struck my front end.”

Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library this month.

Wow! I can totally see the Candle Fly coming inside the car and me have a conniption ! Some of those things are huge!
They all sound realistic! Just because I cannot make up my mind, I’ll say #4.

We’ll see, Delores! Here’s the definition I found on Quora: Botanically, a fruit is the ovary of a flowering plant (think of how oranges, bananas, apples, etc, have seeds in them). However, the strawberry doesn’t actually develop from the ovary of the plant, so it isn’t a standard botanical fruit.

I’m thinking #1 is the one you made up, Pat. #4 reminds me of the story a mathematician used to describe his car accident. “The trees were uniformly passing me, when suddenly one jumped out in front of my car.” If I remember right, it was Stan Ulam who was part of the Manhattan Project.
Nice cover for your new book. I’ll be pre-ordering it for sure.

Looking forward to your new series. I have seen all of those statements supposedly attributed to insurance reports except #1, so I’m choosing that one. I am unfamiliar with candle flies. True story: a number of years ago, a local woman had a car accident and died. They later reported she had been stung by a bee, which caused the accident. It was so long ago, I don’t recall any of the other details.

Love the cover, Pat! I am going with #4 this week. I haven’t heard of anyone referring to a moth as a candle fly since I was growing up.

I’m going to go with #1 as well. I’ve never heard of a candle fly. And I thought you meant a candle flew in my car, lol!

But all of these sound outrageous and like they could be true so it’s a hard call this week 🙂
