I’ve finished the short story for Sumer of Suspense except for reading it for typos. I’ve titled it Code Pink ~ Stolen Baby
Here’s the tagline:
It’s been five years since someone stole Holly Jordan’s baby boy. Armed with new software that can predict how he would look today, she enlists the help of cold case Detective Jake Prescott to find him. But the kidnapper will do anything to keep her from learning the truth. Even murder.
The photos on the left are of Holly Jordan, the boy’s mother and Det. Jake Prescott of the cold case unit.
You can preorder for only $.99…Once it releases it will jump to $9.99!

Today I may be slow on answering comments ~ I am visiting my daughter and grandson and his family near Hot Springs, Arkansas! It’s been almost a year since we’ve gotten together. Thank goodness for Facebook and phone calls.
Now onto last week’s Mystery Question. These are from various police blotter reports. As usual, three are true, one I made up. It was your task to figure out which one. 🙂
- Hotel employees called police regarding an unwanted guest. Officers found him in the elevator, nude. He said he thought it was a shower. Camera footage showed the man entering the elevator fully clothed, but he soon began disrobing.
- A woman was displeased with the way her housekeeper put her towels away, so she called her local police and requested a deputy to come and talk to her.
- A farmer called police at midnight after his rooster backed a teenaged boy into a corner in his hen house. It turned out he’d been dared to sneak into the hen house and steal a chicken. He hadn’t counted on the guard rooster.
- During a disturbance call, a man gave officers a false name and was arrested after he was found to have warrants for both names.
And the answer is…#3. I’ve run into some mean roosters, but none of them were guard roosters. 🙂 Congrats on all who got it right!
Now for this week’s Mystery Question. Below are four different crimes. Three, unfortunately, are true. I made up one. Can you guess which one?
- A woman posed as a deputy and showed up at the prison where he was being held with bogus papers for his release. They got away with it until the actual deputy called to say he was coming to retrieve the prisoner.
- A teenager hacked into a government server on a lark and within twenty-four hours, federal agents swarmed his parents’ house, holding them for questioning for another twenty-four hours before they took the boy away in handcuffs.
- Officials canceled a Silver Alert for a 70-year-old man after a detective pulled him over and noticed a woman who appeared to be dead buckled into the passenger seat. He’d been driving with her in the seat for a week after she died at a hotel.
- A man was arrested after he drove his lawn mower, complete with trailer, into the side of a squad car. His driver’s license had previously been suspended and when he registered three times the state limit on the Breathalyzer, he claimed the state spiked his bloodstream.
Okay, Mystery Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!
Oh, and you can still vote for Justice Delivered over at Interviews and Reviews! I’m trailing, but every vote counts! Thanks!

We’ll see, Mindy. Thanks for stopping by.
I’m going with #3.

We’ll see Monique. So glad you dropped by and commented.
How did I not see last week’s post? I think it’s number 1 this week, partly because you didn’t define “his” relationship to his rescuer — people have done things like that and it takes nerves of steel.
Author
I don’t know, Delores! I was sure you’d answered, but when I looked at the comment…no, you hadn’t. lol We’ll see next week if it’s #1.
I think it’s #3

We’ll see, Mary. We’ll see. So glad you stopped by!
I’m going with #3. It seems very farfetched that someone could ride for a week with a dead body and no one ever suspect anything.
Author
It does, doesn’t it, Edward, but…some people are crazy…thanks for stopping by!
I say #2. Have a blessed week.
Author
Thanks, Lucy! I had a great time with my family. 🙂 And we’ll see next week if it’s #2.
I will go with #3!!
Author
We’ll see, Jackie. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Pat, are you sure you made up one of these? 🙂 They are all so believable, and easily could have happened. I’m going with #2 just because I don’t think the Feds could have found the teen that quickly. But, then again…
Author
Thanks, Tim. Glad you thought all of them were believable! We’ll see if you’re right next week.
I am going with #4. Your short story sounds good. I like that it is connected to the Memphis Cold Case series.
Author
Thanks, Gloria! I’ve enjoyed writing the short story. And because it’s connected to the cold case series, Revell will help promote it.
2 is the one you made up.
Author
We’ll see, Patricia! Thanks for dropping by and commenting.
You made up #2, but it reminds me of War Games (1980s movie with Matthew Broderick).
Author
Thanks, Tracy! I didn’t see War Games…not much of a movie buff, wish I were because it would probably help with my writing!
PLEASE let it be #3!!!!!

😀 We’ll see, Regina, we’ll see.

The answers are all over the board this week, Suzanne. We’ll see next week if it’s #1. Thanks for stopping by.
I’ll have to say #3
Author
Number three seems to be a popular answer, Alicia. Thanks for dropping by and commenting.
I’ll choose #4. I already preordered Summer of Suspense!
Author
Thank you, Paula! There are going to be some a-maz-ing stories in the anthology!
I’m guessing #4.
Number 4 is popular, Caryl! Thanks for stopping by!
#1 because if the deputy was a man, how could she get away with saying she was him. most law enforcement officers know each other.
Author
I agree, Shelia…however…we have humans to consider and they don’t always do what’s logical…or not stupid. lol. Not saying that the answer or not…Shis one is a lot of fun!
I want to say it’s #1 with my logic of…if it was a prison for men, wouldn’t the guards be men & not a woman (unless she disguised herself)? It just seems unlikely for someone to get away with this. Stranger things have happened 🙂
I hope you had/having a great time with that adorable grandson & your daughter. Spending time with family that you don’t often get to see would be so exciting. Enjoy!
I’m still voting on your book on Interviews & Reviews everyday hoping to pull off an overtime miracle. You know, like in football…lol!
Thanks for these mystery questions each week, they stretch my thinking. Oh, and Mr. random number generator was wrong for last week. Guess I need to fire him, lol!
Author
Sorry about Mr. Random Generator, Tixi. And those are my greats! And we did have fun. I don’t think any of the kiddos cried one time while I was there. They are such happy children.
We’ll see next week if your logic works. 🙂
Good luck with your story edits.
I voted for your book.:-)
Let’s see, I’m going with number 1 because SURELY there are lots of checks and double checks for releasing a prisoner.
Enjoy your visit with family!

You would think, Priscilla… 🙂 Thanks for commenting!
