Tools of the Trade–Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 58 Comments

Tools of the Trade; Ps19:1

Tools of the Trade is this week’s Mystery Question. In the past few years, new techniques have been invented and should make catching criminals easier. I say “should” because it doesn’t look like anything is slowing criminals down nowadays!

But first, the photo and Scripture verse. The photo was taken late in the evening as the sun highlighted the clouds moving in. And the verse is another of my favorites, especially when I see a scene like this that the camera captured.

And now for last week’s Mystery question–Successful Jail Breakouts. Three of the breakouts are true, and one is a figment of my imagination. Can you guess the one I made up?
  1. Ten Minute Explosive Breakout. Six men drove up to the front gate of a prison in fake police cars, police uniforms, and ski masks. Some of the men fired AK 47s at the two to guard towers. The others took out the front gate with rocket-propelled grenade launchers. Meanwhile, the prisoner blew open his cell door with a stick of dynamite.
  2.  Mom’s 18 Wheel Genius. In broad daylight an inmate’s friend drove his 18-wheel truck through four prison gates. The inmate’s mother followed in her Cutlass Supreme to pick him up. They used a shotgun to shoot at the guards and all piled into the Cutlass to escape.
  3. Perfect Fly Zone. Discovering that the prison where a friend was being held had an open sky area, some friends stole a helicopter. Dropping it in to pick up their buddy and off they went.
  4. The Marshal Escort. The prisoner’s boyfriend managed to steal a U. S. Marshal’s ID and badge. He showed up at the prison with transfer papers and escorted her right out of the building.

And the answer is…#4. Congrats to all who guessed correctly.

And now for this week’s Mystery question–Tools of the Trade. Three of the technologies are real, and one is a figment of my imagination. Can you guess the one I made up?
  1. Smartwater–This technology allows owners to spray a unique chemical on their possessions to allow for quick identification in case of theft.
  2. Camera Fingerprinter–This technology allows a camera to take pictures at a crime scene and identify fingerprints to send directly to the lab for analysis.
  3. Vomit Inducing Flashlight — The US Department of Homeland Security developed a flashlight guaranteed to bring a fleeing criminal down on his knees. What else would he do when he is gripped by a sudden bout of horrid puking?
  4. Body Odor Bio-metric Identifier– This technology stores the specific body odor of registered criminals that can be used later for canines to identify the culprit by the body odor at a new crime scene.
Okay Super Sleuths, which technology did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.
Tools of the Trade. Three of the tools police use to catch criminals are true, and I made up one. Can you guess which one? Leave your answer in the comments then check back next week and see if you beat me! Share on X

Are you sure you made one of these up, Pat? They all seem like they might be possible. Sooo, given that one is made up, I’m saying it’s #2, although I can see where technology could make this happen some day.

That Scripture is one of my favorites, too. I like to keep my eyes on the skies. There’s a lot to be learned there, and God’s glory is beautifully displayed.

Tim, I missed a perfect opportunity this morning to get a shot of the sunrise with contrails parallel to it. I was running late to my PT appointment and didn’t stop to take the shot. Will try tomorrow.

We’ll see next week if it’s #2. Good to ‘see’ you!

Hmm, this is a tough one. I think the vomit inducing flashlight is made up (#3). Of course, the body odor is a bit unbelievable also. But I will stick with #3.

Hmmm, they all seem possible. Technology is amazing these days.
#1 I would think some kind of black light or something would work with the spray.

#2 I think getting pics of fingerprints could be possible with a camera. My fingerprints have worn down so much, it’s hard for the techs to get a good print off of me and I always have to recreate the process several times. Sooo maybe a camera would get it, maybe not.

#3 Ew, but they do all kinds of DNA tests and can get good results. Vomit would be great DNA…sort of. Yuck. But I think very possible.

#4 Trained dogs sniff out criminals all the time. It’s hard to imagine being able to keep a scent unless it’s on some kind of fabric or paper and sealed.

This is challenging. I’m going with #2

This picture is amazing! I think it’s my favorite! Oh my goodness. Love the streaks of color ripping across the sky nestled in between the church and the tree branches. The Scripture fits perfectly. That sky is definitely proclaiming the work of God!

Regarding last week, I guess you will have to decide if you want to take the time to come up with more complicated made-up answers. As I mentioned on your Friday blog, I had started reading Lynette Eason’s Life Flight. A veery similar scene plays out in the first few chapters, except the criminal had emergency surgery and someone posing as a nurse escorted him out of the hospital. It looks like you and Lynette think a lot alike.

I like your picture and verse. The verse really fits that picture.

I’m choosing #1. It says the spray helps identify the stolen possessions. Nothing is said about how it identifies the thief. If the possessions have traded hands several times, I can’t see that helping to find the thief.

Edward, with my deadline, everything might be getting simpler. lol. And to be in the same company as Lynette…well, thanks!
I love the photo and verse. I’ve used the photo before, but today my friend Cheryl dropped off a jump drive with some of her photos on them. So, there will be new photos!

      We’ll see next week if it’s #1. 🙂

Beautiful picture. The verse fits it so well. I’m going to guess #2. The vomit flashlight and BO storage are pretty gross!

Wow! I don’t have one clue what to pick this week! They are all way out there! A little scary that any are true! I want to say #3 because it’s gross but it’s also just enough weird to be true. So is #4. I’m going to say#1. I think we’d hear more about businesses using it if it were true. Watch it be true. It just shows I don’t run in the right circles. Lol. Maybe I live with my head in the sand. I’m really ok with that. I’m happier because of it!

I’ve heard that a few of these are either on the drawing board or reality. I’m going to guess that #2, camera fingerprinter, is a great concept but not yet reality and know I might be wrong! It could also be #4 but I’m second guessing that you wouldn’t choose #4 as the answer two weeks running 🙂

Patricia, your creativity continues to amaze me. If you ever decide to give up writing (but I hope you don’t), I think you have a place with the FBI or NSA. 🙂 I’ll go with #3.

Psalm 19 is one of my favorites. You did it justice with your photo.

Thank you, Kay! I love researching all the posts I do especially the weird ones. lol Just wait until you see Friday’s photo and verse! I’m using another of my friend Cheryl’s photos.

      We’ll see Tuesday if it’s #3.

I think you made up #3. BTW thank you so much for the book recommendations! You have never led me wrong! After I purchase and read them, I pass them on to a friend who is not able to do much but read due to her health. My husband is such a good sport buying the books I request!

I will guess #1 this week. Though #3 with the vomit inducing flashlight makes sense to me because I think they are wanting more “humane” ways to catch criminals. And with new advanced technology being invented all the time, having “smarter” ways of identifying criminals also makes sense. That’s just my logic anyway, lol!

I just looked, and I have “Shadows of the Past” on my Kindle and “Silence in the Dark” on my physical bookshelf 🙂 So I need to get cracking and read this series!
