Too Dumb to Be True

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 52 Comments

This past week has been interesting…Montgomery Bell State Park was wonderful. The photo to the left is of a church built in 1810 and is the birthplace of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

When I entered the old church, I experienced such peace. The windows are stained glass and rays of the sun were reflected on the wooden pews. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my phone, and when I did, the sun had moved on.

And then I came home to this:

And this:

Now onto last week’s Mystery Question:

Three of the following are true, one I made up. Which one is it?
  1.  A teenage boy dialed a drug customer and got the wrong number–he had connected purely by chance to a police officer who didn’t identify himself as such. The teen offered to sell the officer drugs and a time and place for the transaction were arranged…
  2. Craig’s List is a great way to buy items; it’s also a great way for crooks to lure an unsuspecting person into a trap. Two such robbers answered an ad and set up a meeting to purchase a 2009 Toyota Corolla. When the Corolla owner showed up, the men took the car at gunpoint and fled. A day later police traced the robber who set up the meeting. Seems he’d used his home phone to call and make the appointment.
  3. Just as in real estate where location, location, location is most important, reconnaissance is most important for a crook. Someone should have told that to the hapless burglar who broke into a taekwondo studio while the taekwondo master was teaching a lesson. Who promptly took the crook out and called the police.
  4. Then there’s the case of the man who parked his car in his intended victim’s drive and proceeded to burglarize the house. The owner came home to find an unknown car in her drive and checked it out. The man had left his keys and wallet in the seat. When the owner realized what was going on, she grabbed the keys and wallet and took off while dialing 911.

And the answer is…#2. But it’s hard to believe the other three are true!

Now onto this week’s Mystery Question: Three of the following crimes are true. I made up a fourth one. Which  is it?
  1. A man stole a BMW off the lot of one dealership and returned it to a sister dealership in another town for the 5000-mile checkup and free oil change. He also complained there was no owner manual.
  2. A man suspected of arson and vandalism sent a selfie to police because he found the photo on his arrest warrant to be unflattering. He told a local radio station that the picture made him look like he was James Brown on the run.
  3. A retired couple returned home from a vacation to discover a burglar fast asleep in their bed. He was tired because he’d washed their dishes and his clothes, and had even bought groceries.
  4. According to police reports, a wanted Taliban commander walked up to a police checkpoint, pointed to a wanted poster featuring his face, and asked for the $100 finder’s fee. He didn’t get it.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which crime did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing at the end of the month for a book from my library.

I’ll choose # 2, but they could all be true! A lot of the burglaries in this area are connected to drugs & those drugs mess with your mind!

I think each one of these is beyond stupid. I’m choosing #4. If it said Taliban member, I wouldn’t suspect it. It’s difficult to believe someone who is a commander would do that.

I’m debating between 1 and 4. I don’t see any votes yet for #1, so that’s what I’ll go with!

I would say # 3 was made up. I can see a burglar washing his clothes and maybe doing the dishes but buying the groceries, too?

I would say # 3 is made up. I can see a burglar washing his clothes, but buying groceries too? Besides, what man does the dishes?

I can’t believe my eenie meenie worked last week in choosing the correct answer, lol!

The mystery question today is full of ones that can all be true. I’m fluctuating between #3 and #4 , but I think #3 will win out for me. Only if every burglar would come to my house and clean up…haha!

I see your bathroom remodel is in full swing (no pun intended). I bet they do will be beautiful when they are done 🙂
I’m sorry you didn’t get a picture of the sun streaming through the stained glass window of the church, I bet it was absolutely breath-taking!

Remodels are never clean and neat! Your experience at the church sounds wonderful. The things people do is mind boggling! I am going to go with #1 this week since it only has 1 vote so far.

We’ll see Diane…and just found out I can’t have my tub reglazed since no one in the area does reglazing…so Tuesday the old tub comes out and the new one will go in!

  8. Holly

Heavenly days! These are hard, but I’m going to go with #3. I might have bought it until the buying groceries part. But all of them are a little crazy!
