The Profiler

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 59 Comments

Oh, my what a weekend! I was part of the Spring Scavenger Hunt and my head is spinning. It was so much fun, but I was kept hopping. 🙂 I hope you all had a chance to read the blogs at the 30 stations. Lots of information about your favorite authors.

Oh! And I mailed the manuscript to my editor late Thursday afternoon after working 14 hours Wednesday. I.Was.Tired. 🙂 But happy! Now on to last week’s Mystery Question!

It involves a court case. A rich widow was arrested for driving under the influence. When she appeared in court with her lawyer, the judge was not amused. Which of the following is NOT true of the court case?
  1. When she was caught, she was three times over the limit.
  2. He asked for the charges to be dropped since she had recently been widowed and was under undue strain.
  3. He asked that the two-year ban on driving be lifted because he claimed she needed a car to get down her long driveway, and it would be a struggle for the widow to walk the quarter mile to the main road.
  4. He asked that she not be given community service work since she’d never worked and it would make her uncomfortable and out of her depth.

And the answer is…#2. Yes, the rest of the statements are true. Can you believe he asked the judge to not give her community service…but what’s more, the judge agreed with him and dropped the community service! *sigh* Congrats Phyliss, Mindy, and Gloria for guessing correctly!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question: Between 1940 and 1957 a man terrorized New York City with bombs. In the beginning, the bombs were crudely made, but as the years went on, they became more sophisticated. Fifteen people were injured from the 33 bombs he made and left in various places. In 1956, the police brought in a profiler. Three of the conclusions the profiler made were accurate. One was not. Can you guess which one?
  1. He would be a Slav living in Connecticut.
  2. He would have a good education.
  3. He would be well-built and wearing a double-breasted suit–buttoned.
  4. He would have heart trouble.

Okay, Super Sleuths, what’s the correct answer? Leave your guesses in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a $10 gift card to Amazon, iTunes, Starbucks, Walmart…you name it and if they have gift cards, it’s yours. 🙂 By the way, it’s not cheating if you can find the answer on the ‘net. 🙂

Now for February’s winner for a $10 gift card: It is Paula S!

I’m going with 4. He did not have heart trouble per say, but he did have an invasive and spreading disease.

My choice is 4. I think this is the first time I have googled one of these before answering, but noticed someone else thanked google. I guess all is fair when you’re trying to win a $10 gift card. 🙂 I still can’t believe a judge would accept a lawyer’s plea regarding the elderly widows need to drive to the mailbox if it was her own driveway. Where I live, you can drive anywhere you want to on your own property whether you have a license or not. I guess I missed a detail on that one. 🙁 By the way, Pat, I believe one of my relatives won a book from you on that scavenger hunt.

Angela won, Edward! I had no idea. And you don’t have to get the answer correct to be entered in the drawing. 🙂 Really, if you are a sleuth, you sleuth. lol Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for the link. I often look them up after I guess at the answer. I didn’t look for this one last week. I think the judge in that case must have been as unqualified as some judges in the US.

I’m going with #3 this week because my logic is how in the world would a profiler KNOW what someone would wear or if he was well-built? And I know that I could be wrong about that too, but we’ll see next week huh? 😉

    These always make me think!

I am going to go with #4, simply because I think profilers typically would not be as precise in naming the disease, although they might know there was a serious issue.
