The Excuses People Come Up With

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 47 Comments

As I write this post, I’m at the beautiful Innsbrook Resort in Tampa, Florida, courtesy of my publisher. I’m here pitching Justice Betrayed to the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance (SIBA), and I have met some of the nicest people! And everyone I’ve met is excited about my book, which is really nice. 🙂

Now onto last week’s Mystery Question: A man was a suspect in a string of burglaries. A policeman pulled him over and he fled the scene. They arrested him a few hours later. How did they catch him?
  1. He accidentally locked himself in an old vacant church’s boiler room and had to call 911 to be rescued.
  2. He climbed up the fire escape of a nearby building, had a panic attack when he couldn’t get inside and the fire department had to rescue him.
  3. He stole another car and was pulled over after he ran a stop sign. He was stupid enough to give the officer permission to search his car… where the officer found several items that had been reported stolen. About that time the officer received an alert about the stolen car…
  4. He turned himself in, hoping for a reduced sentence.

And the answer is…#1! And I’m hoping he had a God-moment and repented! Congrats to everyone who guessed correctly!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question: This week’s question has to do with Insurance claims and excuses to police officers. Three of the following are true and one is made up. Can you tell which one I fabricated?
  1. This is one man’s explanation to the insurance company after he had an accident: I had one eye on a parked car, another on approaching bus, and another on the woman behind.
  2. In another accident report, the claimant stated: The car in front hit the pedestrian but he got up so I hit him again.
  3. This driver’s excuse: I know I was going fast, but I was trying to get the snow off my windshield so I could see where I’m going.
  4. And one more: I know my son is only fourteen, but really, would you rather have a drunk driver behind the wheel?

Okay, Supers Sleuths, which one of these did I make up? Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!

I think they are all true. You must have overlooked one in a report somewhere. LOL! But since you say you made up one, I will pick #3. In all the times I have driven in snow, speeding up was never a consideration for clearing the snow off the windshield. That would be like being in a torrential downpour when you can barely see the road ahead, much less other vehicles, and speeding up to try to get out of the storm as quickly as possible.

I’m only 30 min. away and would love to be there. I would say the one made up is # 1. Enjoy your stay in Tampa.

Oh my goodness, THREE of these are true?? Unbelievable, lol! Since I have no idea and really want this one to be made up, I’m going with #2. I can’t see a driver running over a pedestrian on purpose…yikes!

I’d like to know where you find these, Patricia! It sure is educational every week 🙂
