The Best of the Worst ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 41 Comments

The Worst of the Best; Daniel 2:21

The Best of the Worst is this week’s Mystery Question. It’s about headlines, and I laughed out loud at some of these. I hope you do, too.

But first the photo and verses. Redbuds are blooming everywhere here in North Mississippi and this is one of several I’ve taken. I just about stood on my head to get this angle. lol Every spring, I think of the first line of this verse…and every four years I think about the second…and every day I ask for His wisdom so that I may have understanding. Praying you all have a blessed week!

I’m helping with our annual MidSouth Christian Writers Conference, so while I’ll post a review of a book I’m reading (Lynn H. Blackburn’s latest, Under Fire), it might be late Friday before I get to look at the comments. But I will. 🙂

Now for last week’s Mystery Question: Four blotter reports, three are true (unfortunately) and I made up one. Which police report did I make up?
  1. The captain dispatched officers to coax a cat down from a tree. After fruitless efforts of calling, “Here Kitty, Kitty, they left. Two hours later, they returned to the same tree to coax a man down. He was 60-80 feet up the tree.
  2. A noise complaint was reported on Pin Oak Drive. Police responded and found a 50th anniversary party in process. The seniors were advised to turn down the Frank Sinatra music.
  3. Police were dispatched to Miramar Beach to arrest a black crow for stealing a silver pendant from a table on a balcony. The officers doubted the veracity of the homeowner’s story, but while they took the report, the crow returned and snatched another shiny pendant from the table.
  4.  Police report a false fire alarm at The Commons. A resident was drying underwear in the microwave.

And the correct answer is…#3! Congrats to all who guessed correctly!

And now for this week’s Mystery Question. Below are four headlines. Three of them were actually printed in newspapers and I had one devil of a time coming up with a fourth so Delores Topliff helped me out. (She can’t answer lol) Can you guess which one Delores gave me? Oh, and don’t drink coffee while you read these!
  1. Utah Poison Contol Center Reminds Everyone Not To Take Poison,
  2. Minor Refuses To Work After Death.
  3. The Price Of Down Goes Up.
  4. Missippi’s Literacy Program Shows Improvement.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did Delores make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library…probably Hostile Intent unless you already have it–I’ll give you a choice, but that will definitely be one of the choices…

The Best of the Worst is this week's Mystery Question. As usual three are real, one is made up. Can you tell which one? Leave your answers in the comments, and I'll enter you in a March drawing for a book from my library! Share on X

These were all so good. I chuckled at all and almost spit my coffee out at #4. So I’m going with #4

Such a beautiful photograph, Pat. I think everyone who takes interesting pictures has a story about a few that were challenging to photograph. Stay safe. I like the verse you chose to go with it.

Thank you for warning not to have our mouths filled with liquid as we read your headlines. You saved my keyboard! I can see that each of them might appear in print. So, the question is how shifty is Delores at making one up. I will say #3 is hers. It’s the only one that <> be passed by a proofreader. But, we all know how well that’s done these days. 🙂

I read your warning and promptly put that coffee cup down!

These are getting harder and harder. Going with #3, because I like what Tim said about it being passed by a proofreader.

Oh, and just the briefest of snow flurries today. . . Just saying 😉

Changing times and seasons – love the picture and verse.

I think #4 is made up. I’m trying to be illogical since my logic hasn’t been working so well. You live in Mississippi, so why not pick on your home state for a headline blooper.

Beautiful photo and verse! I’m so glad the Lord told us that when we lack wisdom, we simply need to ask Him.
Glad that your posts come with warnings now! 🙂 I’m going to guess #1, simply because I like to be different.
