Successful Jail Breakouts –Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 57 Comments

Successful Jail Breakouts is this week’s Mystery Question. Every day prisoner try to escape from prison, but how often are they succcessful?

First, the photo, another of my friend, Cheryl Meints’ fabulous shots, and the Scripture verse. I’ve been reading Job and came across this verse last week. I googled “I know where my Redeemer lives” and found this version by Nicole C Mullen, who penned the lyrics on the Gaither Music Channel on Youtube. I especially like this version because she signs as she sings.

Another video on the same channel is by the Crabb Family and features clips from Israel. I liked that one too…I’ll let you decide if you want to listen to them (link at the bottom of the page).

Now for last week’s Mystery Question–Are You A Sleuth?

Around eleven o’clock, a fire starts in a house. A mother tries desperately to get her three children out of the house. But smoke and flames keep the mother from rescuing the 10-day old baby on the second floor. The official cause of the fire was listed as an overheated extension cord attached to a space heater. Investigators have determined that the baby died in the fire.

Six years later there is a neighborhood birthday party. Which of the following is true:

1. A woman attending the birthday party thought that a girl at the party bore a resemblance to the missing baby’s sisters. It was partly because of the dimple in her cheek. She contacted the mother. DNA tests confirm the girl was the missing baby. The so-called mother of the girl at the party had kidnapped the baby and set the fire as a cover.

2. The mother of the missing baby attended the party with her older daughter. Mostly because the birthday girl was the same age as the mother’s missing baby. They left early, and when the mom went to the closet to get their coats, she dropped hers and accidentally pulled the top off a box. Inside the box, she discovered her baby’s stuffed bear and newspaper clippings of the fire. An investigation followed and DNA proved the birthday girl was her missing baby.

Two good ones…or is it possibly 3 or 4?

3. The arsonist is uncovered when the mother is looking at a photo album with pictures of the baby on the anniversary of the fire. She noticed a neighbor in the photo who had moved into another part of the neighborhood after the fire. The woman was lurking near the front door holding a bag . At the party, the mother saw the woman in the photo. She’d never accepted that her daughter died and contacted the police to investigate the ex-neighbor who just happened to have a little girl the same age the baby would have been. DNA tests revealed her daughter was indeed the baby everyone thought had died.

4. At the party, the mother’s eight-year-old (who would’ve been two at the time of the fire) told her mother she had a new friend and she was going to be her sister. When the mother saw the new friend, she knew in her heart this was her child. she felt it so strongly, she called the police to investigate. When the woman couldn’t produce a birth certificate, a DNA test was ordered and the new friend did indeed turn out to be the eight-year-old girl’s sister.

And the answer is…#1. Congrats to all who guess correctly. Click here to link to the story.

And now for this week’s Mystery question–Successful Jail Breakouts. Three of the breakouts are true, and one is a figment of my imagination. Can you guess the one I made up?
  1. Ten Minute Explosive Breakout. Six men drove up to the front gate of a prison in fake police cars, police uniforms, and ski masks. Some of the men fired AK 47s at the two to guard towers. The others took out the front gate with rocket-propelled grenade launchers. Meanwhile, the prisoner blew open his cell door with a stick of dynamite.
  2.  Mom’s 18 Wheel Genius. In broad daylight an inmate’s friend drove his 18-wheel truck through four prison gates. The inmate’s mother followed in her Cutlass Supreme to pick him up. They used a shotgun to shoot at the guards and all piled into the Cutlass to escape.
  3. Perfect Fly Zone. Discovering that the prison where a friend was being held had an open sky area, some friends stole a helicopter. Dropping it in to pick up their buddy and off they went.
  4. The Marshal Escort. The prisoner’s boyfriend managed to steal a U. S. Marshal’s ID and badge. He showed up at the prison with transfer papers and escorted her right out of the building.

Okay Super Slueths. Which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a February drawing for a book from my library.

#3… Unfortunately I have been in too many prison visiting rooms & from the security they have in my state, I don’t think a helicopter would be able to make it in & out w/out a confrontation.

I’ll guess the helicopter one is made up. Not many would be able to fly a helicopter in order to steal it.

First, I HAD to go read the baby story! Now I know why the mom would even consider that the baby was alive. My next statement which seems to be my mantra “What’s wrong with people?” Just can’t imagine why she thought that was ok and who thinks of things like this!

Todays, I think the first one. The thing that struck me was if you have uniforms, cars and guns, why ski masks? I should think they might have been able to get in and out with the person. Next question…how in the world did the prisoner get dynamite and how did he light it? If this is a true one, the jail better work on security!

I just can’t answer without giving my thoughts. Sorry!!

Gracious three are real? Whoa! #1, because it was the most dramatic.
Love the song, I know that my Redeemer Lives. One of my favorites. I enjoyed watching her sign part of the song. Powerful Scripture for all aspects of our life! In the end Jesus wins!

Oh Pat! Shout to the Lord is a wonderful song to sign! It’s so worshipful! Good for you! Clap! Clap!

I can’t carry a tune if the bucket didn’t have a hole in it but one summer I was the “Song Lady” at our local gym that offered summer camp to kids. Anyway, it was the year Jehova Jireh with hand motions was the Bible School song and I saw how much they liked the signing. I had a friend who taught American Sign language and got him to teach me the signs for Shout to the Lord. The kids loved it. Me–I’m still in wonder that they called me the Song Lady. lol

Love this story, “Song Lady.” Chuckling here a bit. Jehovah Jireh is a fast song to sign!! That’s amazing the Bible school kids tackled it. Do you still remember your signs for Shout to the Lord? Did you teach it to the camp kids, or just sign it for them? I’m pretty sure the kids loved having you as the “Song Lady.” What a fun activity for them.

I’m not sure I ever learned the signs to Jehova Jireh, Barbara. I do still know the ones to Shout to the Lord and, yes, I taught them how to do it. BTW, you don’t want me to sing anything. lol

      5. Barbara Diggs

Shout to the Lord works just fine! What a triple, double blessing for the kids. When I was a camp counselor, I always taught my kids some songs in sign. They loved it as well. Okay, I won’t expect you to sing for me. However, Scripture only says, make a joyful noise!!!

#3 Perfect Fly Zone….how in the world could criminals even get CLOSE to the prison in a stolen helicopter without guards noticing? Granted, it was an open sky area but I would still think it would get noticed & the guards or whoever would go after the copter.

They all sound made up, but it’s amazing some of the stories I’ve read or seen on TV where criminals get away with impossible things! I think of Alcatraz Island years ago where prisoners escaped a supposedly inescapable building.

I find the Book of Job so interesting, and that particular verse carries so much meaning to me. Here is Job, so far in the past, knowing that he has a Redeemer, and that He is alive already, and will continue to be alive forever. Yes, our Redeemer lives!

Well, you didn’t say what country these prisons were in, and #1 sure sounds like it was somewhere really nasty, and maybe it was the good guys breaking out another good guy. The AK 47s and RPGs sound a little over the top of a U.S. prison breakout. That said, #2 sounds the most preposterous to me. An 18 wheeler, and mom cruising in driving a Cutlass just sounds like a Pat Bradley invention. We all know what a great imagination you have. 🙂

Aww, thank you, Tim (I think). I so agree about Job. I think last year and this year are the only ones in the past 17 that I actually stopped and tried to figure out the book of Job. I usually get so mad at his friends that I kind of skipped over the chapters. lol. I even appreciate that it’s poetry.

We’ll see if it’s #2 next week, Tim.

I think #4 is made up. It’s the tamest and least complicated. It even seems the most likely to happen. I usually go with the answer I think is the least likely, so this is a switch for me.

Thanks for sharing that gorgeous picture and the wonderful verse!

#1 seems over-the-top but do-able, so my guess is #3. Choppers are loud and can be seen coming from a fair distance. I don’t think anyone could get away with an unscheduled helicopter pick-up without being shot!

I’ll guess #1. Why the ski masks if you’re trying to look legit? However, criminals aren’t always the most logical!
