Mystery Question: Stupid Criminals is my subject for you this week. I love finding these dumb things criminals do, and some of them simply amaze me.
Don’t you love the way the sun sunlight shines on the river as the sun sets over the Mississippi Bridge? I took this when I researched my second Natchez Trace Park Rangers book, Obsession. Barring an emergency, the third book set in Natchez, Crosshairs, goes to my editor on November 2!!
Mystery Question~Blotter Reports…these are reports from my little area. I can’t imagine what it would be like in a big, populated place!
- A woman reported that two female acquaintances were staying under her house and tearing out the pipes. This has been going on for two months.
- An officer spotted a woman walking in the middle of the road after telling her not to. She was arrested and charged with obstructing a city street. The count jail refused to accept her since she’d just been released earlier the same day.
- A man and woman checked into a motel and after they checked out the next day, the wall-mounted television was gone.
- When the police pulled over the middle-aged driver of a Camaro arrested for drag-racing against a Dodge Charger, he admitted to speeds as high as 70 miles an hour in a 45 zone. The Dodge Charger got away.
And the answer is…#4. Can you believe the other three are true? Congratulations to everyone who guessed correctly!
Now for this week’s Mystery Question: Stupid Criminals. As usual, three are true and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
- Police clocked two men twenty-five miles over the speed limit and pulled them over. Officers found a bag in the back seat with the words Bag Full of Drugs written in large letters. Testing showed it contained four different illegal substances.
- An elderly woman received a phone call from her ‘alleged’ granddaughter’s friend asking for bail money for the granddaughter, and the woman played along. She informed the friend she couldn’t leave the house but could give her cash if she picked it up. The friend complied and walked into the trap.
- Officers arrested a man for pretending to be a ghost while mourners visited a relative’s grave.
- A game warden stopped a pair of men fishing without valid fishing licenses. One of the men didn’t have proper identification and knowing he had outstanding warrants, gave the name of a friend. Unfortunately, the friend had even more outstanding warrants.
Okay, Super Sleuths, which blotter report did I make up? Leave your guess in the comments and I’ll enter you in an October drawing for a book from my library!
Can you guess the stupid criminal? Check out my blog, Mystery Question: Stupid Criminals! You might win a book from my library! Share on XObsession:
Natchez Trace Ranger and historian Emma Winters hoped never to see Sam Ryker again after she broke off her engagement to him. Then she’s shot at near a historical landmark just off the Natchez Trace. Emma has to work alongside Sam as the Natchez Trace law enforcement district ranger in the ensuing investigation. To complicate matters, Emma has acquired a delusional secret admirer who is determined to have her as his own. Sam is merely an obstruction, one which must be removed.
Sam knows that he has failed Emma in the past and he doesn’t intend to let her down again. Especially since her life is on the line. As the threads of the investigation cross and tangle with their own personal history, Sam and Emma have a chance to discover the truth, not only about the victim but about what went wrong in their relationship.

Yes, I love the photo of the Mississippi. It makes me want to travel on the river. I can hardly believe last week’s that were true, especially the women living under home removing pipes–crazy. For this week, I’m going with #2.

Thank you, Erika! I going to make a Pinterest board for it next week. 🙂 And we’ll see if it’s #2 next week.
Love the picture and the verse. After reading the blotter reports, I decided three of them sound too stupid to be true, so they must be true. That leaves #3. It sounds more sick than stupid. I guess it takes all kinds.
