Really Crazy Bungled Crimes–Mystery Question

Really Crazy Bungled Crimes; Mark 1:9

Really Crazy Bungled Crimes are the Mystery Questions for this week. I marvel at the stupidity of criminals and have decided the only ones who are not stupid are the ones we don’t read about. 🙂

But first this week’s photo and verse. This is a photo I took in Israel maybe five miles from the site John the Baptist baptized Jesus. Here the Jordan is much wider than closer to the site. It is a beautiful country and I’d love to go again!

Now for last week’s Mystery Question. As usual, three crimes are true and I made up one–can you guess which one? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in the August drawing for a book from my library!
  1. A man stated to police that he was assaulted at a local tavern earlier that evening. The 62-year-old man was highly intoxicated and drove his truck to the police station to report the assault where he was quickly taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.
  2. When a man was pulled over by a state trooper for driving erratically, he offered the trooper $1000 to let him go. The man was not released (to his chagrin) … he didn’t pass go … and he did go straight to jail, where he was unceremoniously booked not only for suspicion of DUI but also attempted bribery.
  3. The dognapper didn’t see the hundred-pound Doberman in the fenced-in yard when he scaled the fence and grabbed the poodle until it was too late. When the Doberman barreled toward him, he dropped the poodle and tried to get back over the fence. The barking brought the owner outside, and he called the police. The dognapper wasn’t hard to spot running down the sidewalk with the seat of his pants ripped out.
  4. A man kidnapped three employees at a fast-food restaurant and once he had them in the car, he asked where the “good water” was. One of the employees quickly said it was inside the store. The kidnapper climbed out of the car to go inside and the three men grabbed the car keys and ran.
And the answer is… #3. Congrats to all who guessed correctly!
And now this week’s Mystery Question: Really Crazy Bungled Crimes. As usual, three crimes are true and I made up one–can you guess which one? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in the September drawing for a book from my library!
  1. Would-be robbers confidently entered the lobby of a business, hid their hands in their jackets like guns, and demanded money from the woman at the front desk. Unfortunately, there was one flaw in the plan – the “business” was actually a police station.
  2. The would-be bank robber was nervous. So nervous that after he handed the teller the note, he gave her his gun instead of the bag to put the money in. The quick-thinking teller turned the gun on him and held him until police arrived.
  3. Drive-thru windows aren’t meant to accommodate 6’3″, 270-lb. linemen, but one got stuck when servers at a Taco Bell failed to get this particular former football player’s order right, and he went ballistic. There he remained, half inside and half outside the Taco Bell, until the police arrived to dislodge him, and then arrest him.
  4. An 18-year-old really, really wanted a yacht, but he couldn’t afford one. So, he decided to steal one. Unfortunately for him, the 45-ft. vessel he picked was still tied to the dock. When the teenager fired up the engine for a joy ride, the yacht inched forward and was quickly yanked back into the dock, alerting everyone that something fishy was afoot.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!

August’s Winner is Lucy Reynolds! I’ll email you the choices. 🙂

Investigative Services Branch (ISB) ranger Ainsley Beaumont arrives in her hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, to investigate the murder of a three-month-pregnant teenager. She wishes the visit was under better circumstances. Ainsley never imagined that she would become the killer’s next target–nor that she’d have to work alongside an old flame.

After he almost killed a child, former FBI sniper Lincoln Steele couldn’t bring himself to fire a gun. This had deadly and unforeseen consequences for his best friend. Crushed beneath a load of guilt, Linc is working at Melrose Estate as an interpretive ranger. But as danger closes in on Ainsley during her murder investigation, Linc will have to find the courage to protect her. The only question is, will it be too little, too late?

That’s a beautiful photo of the Jordan, Pat. It had to be a moving experience to see it in person.

It’s really hard for me to think crooks can’t tell they’re trying to rob a police station! Didn’t they see all the uniforms? I think you made up #1.

Hi Tim. There are no words to describe how it felt being in Israel. To walk in Capernaum where Jesus and Peter and the other apostles walked. To see the empty tomb. I hope to go back one day.

Love your logic about choosing #1…we’ll see. Good to ‘see’ you here!

That picture is so peaceful looking. It’s hard to imagine so much turmoil continues over there when looking at pictures like this. I’ve listened to many talk about visiting the Holy Land throughout much of my life. It never sounded appealing until our church got a new pastor in the early 90s. His description of the impact on his life made me want to go. If he had stayed long enough at our church and gotten up a group to go, I probably would have gone. These days, I have a hard time imagining leaving American soil to go anywhere else.

I choose #1. The only way I can imagine that happening would be if the police station was located inside another business with no outside signs to identify the police station. I don’t make a habit of looking for police stations but I certainly have seen their signs whenever I passed one. Many times in addition to the outside signs, it’s boldly printed on or beside the door that it’s the police station. Tim mentioned about the uniformed officers. They were probably all at the diner getting coffee and donuts. LOL!

I wouldn’t think about going anywhere right now, Edward. But if this virus ever disappears, I’d love to make a trip back over there and stay at least two weeks! There is so much I want to see that we didn’t have time for even though we were there for 12 days.

Love your reasoning on the Mystery Question–it served you well last week…we’ll see if it happens again. 😉 Thanks for stopping by.

I think they could all be either or – but I’ll go with #2. I have to say #3 would be interesting to see especially if you were next in line. I can just see it they’re like can you drive forward as they collect your payment by hand.

Just to be different I’ll say #4. I would have loved to have seen the football player in the drive through window! Ha ha!
