Ps 95:1-2 Mystery Question ~ Riddles, 3

I found new riddles for this week’s Mystery Question, Riddles 3! Not all riddles are created equal. Some have more than one plausible answer and I don’t like to use those. I love finding these riddles, and I hope you like solving them.

Now for last week’s Mystery Question, Riddles, Take 2:

THE STOLEN BRACELET

1. A woman named Cathy goes to the police claiming that someone broke into her house and stole her diamond bracelet while she was at work. The policemen investigate the crime scene and notice that the bedroom window is broken. There are muddy footprints all across the bedroom floor. However, the room is otherwise neat and organized.
The following day, Cathy is arrested for fraud. Can you figure out why?

And the answer is…Cathy was convicted of fraud because the bedroom window was broken from the inside. If somebody had broken in from the outside, there would have been glass pieces on the bedroom floor. Also, the room was perfectly tidy, which means the so-called thief didn’t search for items and knew exactly where the bracelet was.

UNSOLVED MYSTERIES OF THE SERIAL KILLER

An unidentified man in the local town kidnaps people and demands them to take one of the two pills that he offers. The pills look identical, but the killer claims that only one is poisonous. When a victim chooses a pill, the killer takes the remaining one. The victims always die after swallowing the tablet with water.
How does the killer manage to get the safe pill every time?

And the answer is…The riddle is easy to solve if you look at it from a different angle. As it turns out, the poison is not in the pills but in the glass of water that the victim drinks.

THE OLD WOMAN WHO LIVED ALONE

An elderly woman lived alone in her house by the suburbs. She rarely left the house and knew only a few people. One Friday morning, the mailman called out for the woman but didn’t receive a prompt answer as usual. Upon peeking in through the window, the mailman realized that the woman was murdered. The police investigated the house and found Tuesday’s newspaper by the dead body. Also, by the door outside, there were three unopened bottles of milk, one of which had gone bad.
The police arrested the killer the very next day. How did they figure out so quickly?

And the answer is…The mailman killed the old woman because the newspapers for Wednesday and Thursday weren’t found in or outside the house. This means he knew there would be no one to read them. (He tried to trick the police by reporting the crime himself).

Now for this week’s Mystery Question ~ Riddles, 3

1. The Building mystery

A dead body is found at the bottom of a multistory building. It looks quite clear that the person has committed suicide by jumping off from one of the floors.

A  detective comes, goes to the first floor and walks in the room facing the direction in which the body was found. He opens the closed window of that room and flips a coin towards the floor.

He goes to the second floor and does the exact same thing till the last floor. Then, when he climbs down, he tells the team that it is a murder, not suicide.

How does he know that?

2. Mystery Question, Riddles, 3: The Funeral mystery ~ I actually used this one in one of my books. 🙂

A narcissistic girl, at the funeral of her mother, met a guy whom she did not know. The girl fell for the guy and wanted to contact him. She looks for him but couldn’t find him.

A few days later she kills her sister. What did she do that?

4.

Mystery Question, Riddles, 3: The Recorder mystery

A man was found dead with a cassette recorder in one hand and a gun in the other. When the police came in, they immediately pressed the play button on the cassette. He said “I have nothing else to live for. I can’t go on,” then the sound of a gunshot. After listening to the cassette tape, the police knew that it was not a suicide. How did they know?

#1: The coins landed in a different spot to the body?
#2: I remember this one! My sister and I still talk about it! She’s a sociopath, and saw him at a funeral, so kills her sister so there’ll be another funeral for him to come to.
Cassettes have to be rewound before they can be listened to. Ooops!!!
Great job again, Patricia! These are so much fun! And another beautiful photo!

    1. The detective had to open the window on each floor, so with all the windows closed, the man could not have jumped to his death.

    2. Her sister was her identical twin, and the sister was seeing the guy.

    3. They found the tape rewound when they picked up the recorder. The tape should not have been rewound.

Now I have a riddle for you, Pat. The riddles are numbered 1, 2, 4. What happened to #3?

Hi Tim! One and three are correct…#2 could be, but isn’t the answer. 🙂 thanks for stopping by. And as for your riddle…I’m afraid you’ll have to tell me…unless it’s as simple as the riddle maker lost count. lol Always good to see you!

And everyone else, feel free to solve Tim’s riddle.

    1. The detective had to open the windows. Either the jumper closed them after himself or the killer closed them.
    2. He was a friend of her sister’s, and the girl wanted him to come to her sister’s funeral.
    4. The police didn’t have to rewind the tape, so the killer rewound it while staging the suicide.

Wow! That I solved the riddle was a-maz-ing, Tim. I usually give up. lol And I’m glad you enjoy my posts. I’ve struggled to keep doing two while trying to meet this deadline, but unless it gets really close, I’ll keep putting them up. Finding the right scripture for the right photo can be challenging but fun!

    1. The window is closed. 2. ? Maybe she thought the guy would go to the sister’s funeral. 4. Maybe there was not a sound of the gun hitting the floor.

I love these riddles, thanks for finding them! #1 It was murder because the detective had to open the windows on each floor. If the person had jumped the window would have already been open.
#2 (I admit I had to look at other comments to get this one) the girl killed her sister so she could see the guy again at another funeral.
#3 If the guy committed suicide the tape recorder wouldn’t have been shut off after the gunshot if he’d killed himself, it would have kept running or been turned off before he shot himself.

    1. A suicide would have an open window.
    2. Narcissistic girl is a psychopath.
    3. Numbered as 4.
    4. Suicide didn’t turn off the cassette player.

Hey Patricia, I’m only answering one of these tonight because my brain isn’t in gear. I had a partial root canal today and have to go in the morning to have the tooth extracted. The last riddle is clear. If the person had committed suicide, the cassette tape would have kept running to the end rather than being rewound to the beginning. If I feel up to it tomorrow, I’ll take another look at the first two.

Oh, Edward, I’m so sorry about your tooth. Root canals are the worst and all that work and you still have to have it pulled! Will pray it doesn’t hurt tonight and the extraction will go well. Thanks for taking the time to stop by!

      1. Edward Arrington

The extraction went so much better than the incomplete root canal. Even the anesthesia injections were much less painful. Today has been a good day. Thanks for the prayers.

Now for those riddles, I don’t know if my brain is working any better tonight than last night. LOL! On the first one, I can’t decide if the detective is simply playing “heads it was murder, tails it was suicide” or if that part had nothing to do with determining it was murder. I have to agree with the others who said he based his decision on the closed windows. I would say the girl in the second one thought there was a connection between her sister and the guy. Maybe she was afraid the sister would get the guy first.

Love your answers, Edward. We’ll see next week how close you came. And I’m so glad today went better than yesterday! I do not like going to the dentist. At.All! And he’s a nice guy. Praying for fast healing for your tooth.

    1. I don’t know why the detective flips the coin towards the floor (that’s a real mystery to me), but I agree with Tim that the person would have had to open the window to jump out to commit suicide.

    2. I think the narcissist girl killed her sister because she was dating the guy she liked. A couple of the signs of a narcissist is a inflated ego & sense of entitlement, so therefore to me it says she didn’t want anyone in her way of getting the guy she liked.

    3. Again, I agree with Tim….if it was suicide, they would have had to rewind the tape to listen to it.

I hope you reveal the answers to these because the first one stumps me with why the detective would flip a coin on the floor….I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure that piece of information out 🙂 I love these questions, it sure makes me think and unravel the puzzle!

Trixi, I love the way you think. I’m not sure the coin flipping has anything to do with solving the puzzle. lol. I’ll have to look at the answers again…I’d hate it if I lost the page with the answers…glad you like these puzzles since they don’t take as long to pull together as me trying to come up with a fourth scenario that’s as crazy as some of the crimes or blotter reports. lol Right now time is important as I close in on this deadline.

      1. Trixi

Ah ha….maybe the coin is a red herring! I think I’ve been watching too many episodes of Poirot 🙂

    1) The detective had to open the windows since they were all closed. So the person couldn’t have committed suicide. 2) She wanted to see the guy again and was hoping he would come to her sister’s funeral. 3) The police didn’t have to rewind the cassette recorder before playing it which means that someone other than the victim did that before the police showed up.

    1. How could someone jump when the windows were closed?
    2. The girl found her sister with the guy and got mad.
    3. A dead person can’t rewind a recorder. The cops should have had to rewind the tape or it was all the way at the end because no one turned it off.

#1 All the windows were closed and the body wasn’t in a position consistent with a suicide. #2The guy was married to her sister and she got really jealous of that because she is the center of her own world. #3 When the tape was rewound to the beginning they were able to hear the conversation that started before the suicide confession.

Where the coin landed did not match where the body was found; have another “family” funeral to “lure” the man to attend; somebody backed up the cassette tape–it should’ve played out until the end of the tape, w/ nothing else on it
