More Unbelievable Crimes ~ Mystery Question

More Unbelievable Crimes; Ps 73:26

More Unbelievable Crimes is this week’s Mystery Question. I’m still shaking my head at these…but first the photo and verse.

It’s another photo taken from my backyard as another storm front hit our area. Unlike some areas of the country, we’ve had an abundance of storms and rain. And before you ask, I’d send you some if I could! 🙂 Psalm 73:26 is one of my go-to Scripture verses when troubling times come (–and they will).

And now for last week’s Mystery Question–You Won’t Believe It. As usual, three of these crimes really happened, and I made one up. Can you guess which one?
  1. Drug dealers got caught trying to smuggle cocaine inside a piñata during a kid’s birthday party. The only problem was it was the wrong party and the parents quickly called the police.
  2. In England, a German “tourist,” supposedly on a golf holiday, shows up at customs with his golf bag. While making idle chatter about golf, the customs official realizes that the tourist does not know what a “handicap” is. The customs official asks the tourist to demonstrate his swing, which he does — backward! A substantial amount of narcotics was found in the golf bag.
  3. Arizona: A company called “Guns For Hire” stages gunfights for Western movies, etc. One day, they received a call from a 47-year-old woman, who wanted to have her husband killed. She got 4-1/2 years in jail.
  4. If you’re a criminal, avoid the sad fate of the bank robbers in Florida who took a wrong turn and ended up on the Homestead Air Force Base. They drove up to a military police guardhouse and, thinking it was a tollbooth, offered the security guard money.

And the answer is…#1. Congrats to all who guess correctly!

And now for this week’s Mystery Question–More Unbelievable Crimes. As usual, three of these crimes really happened, and I made one up. Can you guess which one?
  1. It is not clever to borrow the teller’s car, which she carefully described to police. This resulted in the most quickly-solved bank robbery in the history of the town where it happened.
  2. The man wore a blue baseball cap with the word ‘police’ on it; a fluorescent yellow jacket, with ‘police’ on it, and he had blue flashing lights in his car. He pulled a car over and flashed his credentials. The driver quickly arrested him for impersonating a police officer. Turns out the driver was an off-duty detective, and he recognized the fake credentials.
  3. There was the case of the hopeful criminal who, when the teller told him she had no money, fainted. He was still unconscious when the police arrived.
  4. A robber gave a teller a note saying, “I have a gun. Give me all your twenties in this envelope.” The teller said, “All I’ve got is two twenties.” The robber took them and left.
Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a June drawing for a book from my library!

Before you go, check out the cover of Fatal Witness, the second book in the Pearl River series!

As a child, artist and potter Dani Bennett witnessed the brutal murder of her parents. With no memory of the incident or her true identity, she was forced to take on a new name and a new life, hidden away in Montana for the past 25 years.

Mae Richmond has spent the same stretch of time searching for her granddaughter, who went missing the night her daughter and son-in-law were murdered. Convinced the woman she saw in a pottery magazine feature is the woman she’s been searching for, she enlists the help of K-9 officer Mark Lassiter of Pearl Springs, Tennessee, who tracks Dani down.

Skeptical but curious, Dani sets out on a journey to uncover the secrets of her past and reclaim her true identity. But someone close to her is determined to keep the truth of what happened all those years ago hidden.

I’ll let you know as soon as there is a pre-order link!

    Wonderful verse.
I think you made up number 2 because a fake policeman would be more likely to pull over someone small, say an elderly man or a petite woman, not someone who could overpower and arrest him.

I think I’m going with #3. To have someone actually faint, I would think it would have been the teller and not the robber! .
I love the cover to the next book, very nice!

Great photo and verse, Pat. Temps hovering around 100 here, some clouds, and we’re officially in the monsoon season; just waiting for the thunderstorms to roll in.

I think Vera is on to something, although I have read that police sometimes use fake credentials, against policy, keeping their real ones in a pocket. But, I’m going to stick with #2 anyway as the one you made up.

Each week you make me shake my head and think, “Surely not!” 🙂 I’m going to guess #3.
Congratulations on your second Pearl River book. It sounds fantastic as usual!!

Wow! That’s a great sky!!! Love the rays around the sun. Kind of looks like a cross. Did you notice that big gorilla in the lower clump of blue clouds?

Indeed, this Scripture is cling-worthy. Amen!

I enjoyed reading these scenarios, especially since I’ve worked in both professions. I’m going with #3, because I think every teller would be thrilled to have a robber faint before the crime was completed.

Beautiful cover, for Fatal Witness, Pat. Breathtaking, actually.

Thanks, Barbara. This might be my favorite cover of all times! 😉 I’m so glad you had fun with the Mystery Questions this week…it gets harder and harder to make up one to go with the others. lol We’ll see next week if it’s #3.

Lovely photo and great verse Pat! All of these crimes are so ridiculous and funny it’s hard to believe any are true. I’ll guess #4 – hard to believe a bank robber would ask for only specific bills. Why not take it all. Lol
Fatal Witness sounds intriguing and I agree that’s a great cover

I’m choosing #2 because it seems the most plausible. I’ve never been pulled over by a fake police, but I had a car come up close behind me and start flashing blue lights. I kept going and the car passed me. I had heard of fake police stopping women for nefarious purposes.

As always, I enjoyed the picture and the verse. Your next book sounds exceptional.

Beautiful picture! The verse fits it well. I’m going to guess#2. Hard to imagine anyone would have the nerve to try any of these.

I’ll guess #3. In #1 it would make more sense to say the car was stolen instead of borrowed, unless the their knew the teller.
