More Myth Busters

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 32 Comments

I am excited to report I am back working on the second book in the Natchez National Park Rangers series! I’m writing this the Saturday before the post releases and as of today, I have 7,000 of 90,000 words! At the left is a photo of my office before I started the book…you don’t want to see it now. lol

It’s so funny how I withdraw from the people around me as I get immersed in the book. It’s like I don’t want to come out of my “fantasy” world. But I have to keep my head in the story or I’ll lose it.

Anyway, onto last week Mystery Question: Four statements; three are false. One is true. Can you guess the true statement?
  1. The Great Wall of China is the only man-made structure visible from space.
  2. A penny dropped from the Empire State Building will kill you.
  3. A typical cumulus cloud weighs over a million pounds.
  4. Cooking wine in food removes the alcohol content.

And the answer is…#3. As for #1–Yang Liwe, the Chinese astronaut who took a photo used a strong telephoto lens and said he hadn’t seen the wall himself and didn’t know until he returned to earth whether it showed up in the shot. And as for #4 only about 40% of the alcohol is typically cooked out of food when added to a dish. 😉

Now for this week’s Mystery Question. Once again I’m using myths and I’m going back to three correct answers and one false one.
  1. Cheetahs can only purr.
  2. Strawberries are classified as berries.
  3. Maine is the closest state to Africa.
  4. Nintendo dates back to the late 19th century.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Guess before you look up the answers. 😉 Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!

I’m guessing #1 is false. But, maybe it’s true and that’s why it’s called a cheetah (cheater). It slips up on its prey, purring as it comes, and no harm is expected. LOL!

Pat, I believe #2 is false. Now #1 is an interesting statement, and as written could also be considered false. I’m quite sure that Cheetahs can do much more than just purr. However, I think you mean they can only purr as opposed to roar.
Glad you’re getting a great start on you new book! Solve this mystery for me: Is the first book of this series available yet? I’ve been looking but not finding. I certainly don’t want to miss a Pat Bradley book!

I’m going to go with the craziest answer in hopes it must be the false one…lol! How’s that for logic?

#2 Strawberries are classified as berries. I seem to remember reading somewhere that cheetahs can only purr and not roar like other big cats. Can’t remember the reason why, maybe the physical structure of their necks?

Congrats on the number of words you’ve got written Patricia! I can understand not wanting to come out of the book fantasy world once you get going. Like reading for me, if you interrupt (especially a really good part), I lose my place and get jarred back into reality. It always takes me a few moments to readjust where my mind is
