More Lawyer Gaffes #16 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 54 Comments

More Lawyer Gaffes #16 is this week’s Mystery Question. I thought I was out of gaffes, but then I found a whole lot more! LOL

But first the photo and verse. Again, I took this at Dauphin Island just as storm clouds rolled in. We only had rain one day, and it didn’t last long–we still went crabbing that night. Feel me shiver? I don’t like crabs–they run so fast and look so…shiver again. And I love that verse. It’s only the first half of the verse–I also like how God sings over us.

Now for last week’s Mystery Question–More Funny Lawyer Gaffes #15. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
  1. LAWYER: Doctor, did you say he was shot in the woods?
WITNESS: No, I said he was shot in the lumbar region.
  2. LAWYER: Are you married?
    WITNESS: No, I’m divorced.
LAWYER: And what did your husband do before you divorced him?
WITNESS: A lot of things I didn’t know about.
  3. LAWYER: You don’t know what it was, and you didn’t know what it looked like, but can you describe it?
  4. LAWYER: Have you ever dealt with an attorney?
WITNESS: Yes. I had an attorney write my living trust,
LAWYER: And how did that turn out?
WITNESS: I don’t know. Ask me when I’m dead.

And the answer is…the popular #4. Congrats to all who guessed correctly!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question–More Funny Lawyer Gaffes #16. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
  1. Defendant: I want you to appoint me another lawyer.
    Judge: Why is that?
Defendant: Because the public defender isn’t interested in my case.
Judge: Do you have any comment on the defendant’s motion?
Public Defender: I’m sorry your honor, I wasn’t listening.
  2. Lawyer: “Isn’t it true that you were given $500.00 to throw this case?”
    Witness: No response.
Lawyer:  Were you given money to throw this case?
    Witness. Again, no response.
    Judge: Please answer the question.
Witness: Oh. I thought he was talking to you.
  3. Prosecutor: Did you kill the victim?
    Defendant: No, I did not.
Prosecutor: Do you know what the penalties are for perjury?
Defendant: Yes, I do. And they’re a lot better than the penalty for murder.
  4. Lawyer: Your Honor, in the first place, as they say, I am going to say it. I was going to say what you said and the reason I am going to say it, is not because you just said it. If you had not said it, I was going to say it first.
Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!

June’s winner is Mary G!

Today’s song is from waaaay back, and I’ll let you guess the era from the way the teens are dressed…

Whoa! Look at those clouds! I have the second part of your verse in a frame in my dining room. Like you, Pat, I love how God sings over us.

I agree with you on the crabs. My brother and I scooped two off of a pier post when we were young and brought them home (a four hour ride) with us. Now the thought makes me shiver, too!

Loved #3, but think you made up #4.

That photo is stunning! But, no storm is stronger than God. The weather here in Tucson is becoming pensive as the monsoon season is ready to start. There were some very short, strong wind gusts yesterday. The prediction is for the first rain in a day or two. We’ll see.

    Congrats to Mary G.
That Johnny Preston song was a blast from the past! Thank you!

And now for the crazy quotes…
    #1. Most fascinating case ever.
#2. Can witnesses throw a case?
#3. Well, at least the witness has the penalties down.
    #4. How’s that again?
I’m sure there are defenders like #1. Don’t know what to make of #3. #4 could definitely be real.
I will say you made up #2 because I don’t know how a witness can throw a case.

I am going against the trend and saying #2 is false. I would hate to think a witness would talk to the judge that way. If I were the judge, I would think the witness was guilty.

Love the song you shared. I sang along with it.

As I drive to Roanoke to visit my wife in rehab each day, I have been seeing lots of beautiful clouds as well as numerous storm clouds. I try to spend most of the drive in prayer since it’s just God and me in the car. The verse is so true.

Wow! I guess it’s been 60 years at least since I heard that song. I always enjoyed it.

    1. I think the defendant made a valid request.
    2. Either the lawyer or the witness was playing dumb. I’m not sure which.
3.The defendant should have kept his mouth shut.
    4. Only a lawyer could come up with a statement like that.

I’m choosing #3. I can see the other three happening. I’m choosing it because the lawyer didn’t make a gaffe. The defendant did.

Love your logic, Edward! We’ll see next week. I enjoy finding those old songs…I remember Running Bear from when I was in high school. I often use my driving time for prayer time since I usually travel by myself. Or sometimes, I just talk to God. I hope your wife is feeling stronger and having less pain!

      1. Edward Arrington

Brenda is gradually regaining strength and able to do just a little more each day. The pain is manageable most days, unless she gets over-confident and waits too long to ask for medication.

My goodness Patricia, I haven’t heard Running Bear in decades!! I’m guessing that had to been late 50s or early 60s? I’m wondering who the announcer was, don’t think it was Dick Clark, or was it? Thanks for the memories!
I’m going with #2 , these are hilarious!

    1. Tim Johnson

Dottie, I watched that video on YouTube instead of from here. On the YouTube channel it says this was from the “Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show”. I looked that up, and found it was a weekly show hosted by Dick Clark and ran from February 15, 1958, through September 10, 1960 and sponsored by Beech-Nut Gum. You can read about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dick_Clark_Show.
The funny thing is that I remember faithfully watch Clark’s “American Bandstand”, but I don’t recall the weekly show at all.

I’m happy to report that Tucson got it’s first monsoon rain yesterday, and again this afternoon as I write this. We do indeed need this. I’m hoping the predictions for an above average monsoon this summer are correct. Dottie, I hope your daughter in Phoenix is getting the rain as well.
