an More Lawyer Gaffes #15 is this week’s Mystery Question…if I can come up with a made-up one. It’s getting harder all the time.
But first the photo and verse. Another photo from Dauphin Island. Those small things you see in the distance are oil rigs. They were five miles out, but in the late afternoon, they looked as though someone had moved them closer to shore. I’m sure some of my science readers can explain that phenomenon to me…And I love that verse.
Now for last week’s Mystery Question–More Funny Lawyer Gaffes #14. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
- ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse, or blood pressure or breathing?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
ATTORNEY: I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law. - ATTORNEY briefing his client: “You must swear to tell the complete truth. Do you understand?”
CLIENT: “I do.”
ATTORNEY: “Do you know what will happen if you don’t tell the truth?”
CLIENT: “Sure. I imagine that our side will win.” - ATTORNEY: Now sir, I’m sure you are an intelligent and honest man–
WITNESS: Thank you. If I weren’t under oath, I’d return the compliment. - ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body?
WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 PM
ATTORNEY: And the man was dead at the time?
WITNESS: If not, he was by the time I finished.
And the answer is…the popular #1. Congrats to all who guessed correctly!
Now for this week’s Mystery Question–More Funny Lawyer Gaffes #15. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
- LAWYER: Doctor, did you say he was shot in the woods?
WITNESS: No, I said he was shot in the lumbar region. - LAWYER: Are you married?
WITNESS: No, I’m divorced.
LAWYER: And what did your husband do before you divorced him?
WITNESS: A lot of things I didn’t know about. - LAWYER: You don’t know what it was, and you didn’t know what it looked like, but can you describe it?
- LAWYER: Have you ever dealt with an attorney?
WITNESS: Yes. I had an attorney write my living trust,
LAWYER: And how did that turn out?
WITNESS: I don’t know. Ask me when I’m dead.
Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a June drawing for a book from my library!
Before you go, I’d like to tell you about running into a reader in Ollie’s the other day. Ollie’s has an Inspirational book section, and I always check to see if my books are there. A 20-something girl was checking it out as well. I introduced myself. I didn’t see any of my books and went to check out. A minute later, she caught up with me, waving Justice Betrayed and offering it to me. She was so tickled when I told her to keep it if she wanted it. I hope I’ve gained a new reader!
Okay now for this week’s music offering. Randy Travis has long been one of my favorite country singers, and I was saddened when he had a stroke back in 2013. He was given only a 2% chance of living, but live he did, and last year, with the help of AI, he released a new song. You can check out details of how they did it here, but here’s the song.

Hi Barbie D. We’ll see…
B. Though A is the funniest.
Author
I’m glad you find them funny, Elizabeth! We’ll see if you guessed correctly next week…
Yes, the fata Morgana effect. It’s like a mirage, except it’s upside down. Instead of flattening the objects (or the air) in a desert to look like a lake (cool air on top of hot air), it stretches objects on the horizon so they look bigger (warm air on top of cold air). Sometimes they even look upside down.
Randy Travis–I love his music!
Hm, I guess number 2 this week!
Morgana effect. Thank you, Priscilla. You just taught me something new!
The atmosphere near the horizon can play some neat tricks. Another is the “green flash”, usually seen on the horizon at sunrise or sunset. And is the Föhn wind effect sometimes seen in the Swiss Alps. A co-working and I were driving from work one afternoon near Zurich, and saw the normally impossible to see alps (too far away) as if we were nearly there with them.
Author
I would have loved to see that, Tim!
How interesting, Tim. I finally saw a green flash sunset, but I hadn’t even heard of the Föhn wind effect. Cool.
Author
Thank you for explaining, Priscilla, why those oil rigs do that! lol I love Randy Travis’ music too…we’ll see next week it it’s #2.

Hi Charlotte S! We’l see next week…
I’m going to guess #3.

Number 3 is getting popular, Kelly…we’ll see…
I love photos like that, Pat. Nice choice of Scripture to go with it.
I’m pretty sure you now have a new fan. That’s a neat story.
All right, down to business.
#1. As opposed to the lumber region.
#2. Hence the divorce.
#3. Why am I not surprised at this one?
#4. In this case, there is only one way to find out.
I’m saying you made up #4. If you didn’t, I can only hope I never need an attorney.
Now, here’s one for you all. Why did the judge grant the penguin bail?…
Because he wasn’t a flight risk. Badda-boom. (You can all groan now if you wish.)

Groannnnng, Tim. Lol Love your reasoning…we’ll see next week if it’s #4. I hope she enjoys the book!
going with #3

Hi Sharon…we’ll see next week…
I must say, I giggled and laughed throughout this blog. That was a really amazing photo, Pat. Breathtaking. I’m not even going to look for hidden objects because I want to enjoy the beauty of it. And the Scripture…perfect!
Thanks Priscilla for explaining about the clouds. Quite interesting. And Tim, that pun still has me laughing!
These were all SOoooo funny! Which ever one you made up, Pat, you’re good at it! love #4, but I’m going with #3.
James really laughed on #3 and 4. He’s going with #4 and said they sure were good ones!
That was really fun meeting a reader in Ollie’s AND she found your book!
Author
I’m so glad they made you laugh this week, Barbara! I can’t take credit for making up the false one…and Happyy Anniversary!!
I am guessing #4 this week.
I bet you did gain a new reader.

If the young lady read your book, she will definitely want to read more!
Author
Thank you, Mary G! I hope so. We’ll see next week if it’s #3.
Beautiful picture! I love the layers of clouds. Those oil rigs must be huge for them to show up that far away. I love that verse!
I think I read somewhere that Randy Travis has released one new song each year since suffering the stroke. Maybe I dreamed I read it.
I like #4. I think you made it up.
Author
You and Tim both like #4 (and several others.) We’ll see next week. I think he’s either released one more since this one or is in the process of releasing it through AI. Randy can no longer sing himself.
Apparently I was confused about what I thought I had heard. I just listened to the song and to the video about how the song was produced. I had not viewed that previously but when they said it was his first song in twelve years, I remember reading that. I used to enjoy seeing him when he appeared on Touched by an Angel and a few other shows.
Author
It was such a shame that he had a stroke.
Always hard to choose but this week I’m guessing #4.
Author
Hi Gail…you’re in good company, choosing #4. We’ll see…
I’m picking four. I am sure you have a new reader. Love Psalms!

Thanks, Judy. I love the Psalms, too. We’ll see next week if it’s #4.

# 2 Love the verse and picture
Author
Thank you DJ! We’ll see next week if it’s #2.
I will say #4 is false. No particular reason.
Author
We’ll see Deborah. Sometimes it’s a hunch that pays off, then other times… 😉
I’m going to guess #3.
I believe the reason the oil rigs looked closer is due to refraction and the change in angle of the light.
Thank you for sharing the Randy Travis video. He has long been one of my favorites. I have an album of hymns by him.
I’m going with #4.
Author
We’ll see, Diana! Number 4 is popular. 🙂
Love your photos from Dauphin Island! Our family used to vacation in Gulf Shores every year, so I have wonderful memories of the area.
I never guess correctly, but this week I’m going to go with #2.
Author
Hi L! I went to Gulf Shores before Katrina hit, and then to Gulfport in January after Katrina but this was the first time after everything was rebuilt. It is so pretty there. Oh, and we’ll see if it’s #2 next week!
