More Killer Inventions — Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 58 Comments

More Killer Inventions is this week’s Mystery Question. I had no idea so many inventors were killed by their inventions! But first the photo and Scripture verse.

Last week’s moonshot was taken after the moon cleared the trees across from my house. I snapped this one, sitting on the ground when the moon first cleared the horizon. It was such a neat sight! And I’ve used this verse before, but it seems to fit the picture so well…and it won’t be long before those limbs are covered in green leaves!

Now for last week’s Mystery Question, Kill By Their Inventions, three are true, and one is made-up. Can you guess which one?
  1. The inventor of a robotic exoskeleton died when the inventor pushed the wrong button and his robot swung its arm around, hitting the inventor on the side of his head.
  2. The man who invented the submarine died while testing it.
  3. The Aerocar was a steam-powered, propeller-driven rail car intended to whisk railway executives quickly to their destination, was killed when the inventor approached a curve at over one hundred mph and the Aerocar went airborne.
  4. An Austrian rocket scientist who invented solid and liquid-fueled missiles thought it’d be cool to make a rocket-propelled car. It worked, too, and he got it up to 250 mph. His mistake was in trying to make it even faster by adding alcohol as a combustible. That got away on him and blew up on his workbench, killing him and burning his workshop down.

And the answer is…#1. Congrats to all who guessed correctly and thanks to everyone who left a comment!

Now for this week’s Mystery Question, More Killer Inventions, three are true, and one is made-up. Can you guess which one?
    1. A successful parachute pioneer was on the right track until he tested his “wearable model” coat parachute from the Eiffel Tower and it failed.
    2. In a test drive, the inventor of the Stanley Steamer automobile died when he drove his car into a woodpile while attempting to avoid farm wagons traveling side by side on the road.
    3. A scientist who invented a laser capable of shooting down incoming missiles died when the fire control system overheated and exploded in his lab.
    4. The inventor of a flying car attached a Cessna Flymaster to a Ford Pinto. Unfortunately, he died when the aircraft disintegrated soon after takeoff.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a $10 gift card!

Today’s invention question is really hard. They all sound either dangerous or just plain crazy! I’m going with number 1 because jumping from the Eiffel Tower sounds too lovely. It’s a place for romance, not science experiments.

I’m going with #4. It’s a bit ‘out there’, but I suppose all inventors see the world’s possibilities and not limitations. Lucky for us who aren’t made that way.

Pat, I love the verse with the moon photo through the tree.

I’m going with #4 and so is James. He won last week lol!

So far, this is my favorite moon shot! I love the way the moon shines through the branches. For me, I immediately saw a little doll curled up almost in a fetal position. The head, eyes and hair are on the top left. The arms are crossed and her knees are resting on the branch, lower right. Her little toes are curled beneath the branch. She looks content, which goes with the peacefulness of the photo. The Scripture fits it perfectly. I love this, Pat!

Thanks, Barbara! I hadn’t looked at it to see what might appear. Thank you for pointing it out and now I can see what you see. lol. It really does look like a little girl. And we’ll see if you and James are on the nose with #4.

Yup, inventing can definitely be hazardous to your health. Let me say that involving a Pinto in any endeavor should be avoided. I acquired one through marriage, and I quickly offered my new wife my car to drive, and I took over the Pinto. I stayed safe, but that car was gone within a year! 🙂

I think you made up #3. I’m having a hard time thinking the fire control system itself would cause any danger. I would hope his testing of a laser with that much power was done outside, too. But, then again…

Love your logic, Tim! And I agree about the Pinto. Never owned one and never wanted one. lol Now a Mustang…that would be a different thing all together! We’ll see next week if it’s #3!

I hope it has warmed up by the time the next full moon appears. Seeing this picture and some of your others, I want to get my camera and start capturing some of the beauty myself. I like pictures like this — well, I like this one, too. The verse is a good match.

I am choosing #3 primarily because I know very little about laser. Therefore, I can’t picture exactly what the problem was. I understand cars crashing into all kinds of things. I’ve heard of parachutes not opening. It’s difficult to imagine someone trying to put wings on a car of any kind in order to fly in it. One thing is certain to me: if I tried inventing any of the above, I have little doubt that my invention would kill me since I don’t have that kind of skills. LOL!

It’s pretty warm here, Edward…77° today. But of course, we’re going to have storms tomorrow and it’s going to turn cold again…if one considers 60° cold, which I do. lol You should get your camera out! And share the photos you take. And I agree with you, if I invented anything, it would probably kill me. lol. We’ll see next week if you’re right.

I think I’ll go with 2. I do know why you are such a good writer. These are hard and your made up ones showcase your great imagination.
