More Funny Lawyer Gaffs #3 is this week’s Mystery Question. It looks like I might have a good run of funny gaffs… But first the photo and verse.
I was looking through my photos and found this nighttime photo I took when in St. Louis for a conference. We stayed within walking distance of the Gateway Arch, and I’m glad I walked the short distance to the park. I thought the verse worked well since St. Louis was the starting point of so many as they ventured westward. The Arch commemorates the spirit of those pioneers as they embarked on a dangerous adventure.
Now for last week’s Mystery Question–Funny Lawyer Gaffs. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
- Q. What gear were you in when you ran the red light?
A. Sweaty Bettys and Nike trainers. - Q: This myasthenia gravis, does it affect your memory at all?
A: Yes.
Q: And in what ways does it affect your memory?
A: I forget.
Q: You forget. Can you give us an example of something that you’ve forgotten? - Q: What was the first thing your husband said to you when he woke up that morning?
A: He said, “Where am I, Cathy?”
Q: And why did that upset you?
A: My name is Susan. - Q: She had three children, right?
A: Yes.
Q: How many were boys?
A: None.
Q: Were there any girls?
And the answer is…#1. Congrats to all who guessed correctly.
Now for this week’s Mystery Question–More Funny Lawyer Gaffs #3. These are one-liners, and as usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
- Q: The youngest son, the twenty-year old, how old is he?
- Q: Were you present when your picture was taken?
- Q: All your responses must be oral, OK? What school did you go to?
A: Oral. - Q. How long have you been Scandinavian?
Okay Super Sleuths, which of these Questions did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!
I’m traveling today and will answer comments as I can, but definitely by this evening.

I’m going with #4.
Hi Diana. We’ll see next week if it’s number four 🙂
#3 – so literal – I love it.
Yep, number three is literal, Mary! I’m glad you’re enjoying these.
#3
We’ll see, Charlotte. Thanks for responding 🙂
Love the Deuteronomy verse! Hm, this week I’m going with #1 because the lawyer answers the question he’s asking–surely no one would do that in court!
The Deuteronomy verse is one of my favorites, Priscilla. From what I’ve been reading, I think lawyers will say anything in court. Lol.
Oh these were a hoot!! Going with #3.
The Scripture was perfect for me today because I’m the speaker at a luncheon of about 75. This will be the first time I’ll have to sit for a speech instead of stand and walk around, so I am a bit nervous. Ha! One of my favorite Scriptures is I Corth 15:58 Stand Firm. . . . But I guess I can sit firm and still share the message! lol
I am so glad you thought they were a hoot Barbara. I’m praying for you and your speech.
I’m choosing #3 because it made me laugh out loud!
Oh, I’m glad it made you laugh out loud Linda. We’ll see you next week.
Love the verse and picture. I am going with 4.
I’m glad you enjoyed the verse and picture, Sharon. We’ll see if it’s number four next week.
Ah, the St. Louis Arch. One of the most interesting constructions I’ve seen. The inside ride to the top is amazing. The historical information below ground is very interesting. At the time I visited, there was a movie that gave the history of arch’s construction. I believe you can find it on YouTube. The verse you chose certainly fits the ride to the top, but also good advice for any life situation.
Oh, Ray Stevens is one of the best! The trouble is, once you watch one of his videos, you can’t stop there.
#1. Sir, you have a mind like a rusty steel trap.
#2. No, I was still en-route to the photo studio.
#3. Just following your lame rule.
#4. For as long as I’ve been Swedish. This one actually could make sense from a citizenship perspective.
As silly as all these questions are, I think you made up #4. So, what does that say about the layers asking the other questions?
Tim, as always, I love your answers and the way you reason them out. And you’re right about a Ray Stevens song, but that’s always been one of my favorites. Well, I also like It’s Me, Margaret. We’ll see next week if it’s number four.
I am guessing #3. Prayers for you, Barbara.
Thank you so much, Gloria. Greatly appreciate it.
We’ll see Gloria. And I’m praying for Barbara as well.
#3!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the puzzle, Diane! We’ll see next week if it’s #3.
I recognized the picture when I saw it, but my other thought was it appeared to be a failed attempt at a rocket launch at night. Everything was beautiful as it launched from the right, but as it hit the peak and started down, things got a bit fiery. Yikes! My wife and I enjoyed our trip to the top of the “Gateway to the West” back in 1998. I love that verse.
Ray Stevens is another favorite. I wish I had time to share a story about Ray Stevens doing a show at my college alma mater. It was the same school where a revival broke out in a Tuesday morning chapel service and spread across the country two or three years prior to his visit. I believe there were those who had approved his appearance because his song, “Everything Is Beautiful,” was popular at the time, resulting in them thinking he was a Christian singer. However, neither he nor the comedian traveling with him on that tour knew the strong Christian principles on which the school was founded and to which it continues following to this day. The student who headed the committee that sought approval to book him had some explaining to do after the concert because the comedian got a little bit out of line. There’s more to the story, but all I have time for here. Ray released the Mississippi Squirrel Revival a few years later.
All I can say about those questions is that either the lawyers were incredibly stupid, or they were hoping their stupid questions would trip up the witnesses and cause them to reveal something unintended. I know I’m probably wrong, but I’m choosing #3 simply because it’s the only one with an answer.

Oh, Edward, I’m so sorry about the experience with the Ray Stevens concert! And I’m not quite sure what I make of the attorneys who make these statements…We’ll see next week if it’s #3…
Wow, it makes you wonder if these people realize what they are saying. Maybe they need more sleep or coffee. It’s certainly good for a laugh. I’m going to guess #4. I’m enjoying the puzzles too. That video is too funny!

Maybe more coffee is the answer, Erika! 🙂 I’m glad I made you laugh…We’ll see next week if it’s #4.
