More Funny Lawyer Gaffes #5 is this week’s Mystery Question, but first, I want to ask you if you would please pray for those affected by the terrible tornadoes that struck Northeast Mississippi and Southwest Tennessee. Lives were lost, and untold homes were destroyed. Thankfully, the storms are over for now, and hopefully, they will not return this year.
The beautiful photo is from our own Tim Johnson, who took it in the spring of 1976 when he was in Washington, DC. Great job, Tim! And I love that verse in Song of Solomon.
Now for last week’s Mystery Question–More Funny Lawyer Gaffes #4. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
- Q: What happened then?
A: He told me, he says, I have to kill you because you can identify me.
Q. Did he kill you? - Q. Were you driving 45 in a 30 mph zone when you were ticketed?
A. No way. It’s against the law to speed.
Q. And what speed were you driving?
A. Forty. - Q. Can you describe your assailant?
A. He was about medium height and had a beard.
Q. Was this a male or a female? - Q. I show you Exhibit 3 and ask if you recognize that picture.
A. That’s me.
Q. Were you present when that picture was taken?
And the answer is…#2. Congrats to all who guessed correctly!
Now for this week’s Mystery Question–More Funny Lawyer Gaffes #5. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
- Q: “Mr. Slatery, you went on a rather elaborate honeymoon, didn’t you?”
A: “I went to Europe, sir.”
Q: “And you took your new wife?” - Q: “How many times have you committed suicide?”
A. Witness: “Four times.” - Q: “You say that the stairs went down to the basement?”
A: “Yes.”
Q: “And these stairs, did they go up also?” - Q: What is your relationship with the defendant?”
A: “He’s my son.”
Q: “Was he your son on April 1, 1998?”
Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments, and I’ll enter you in an April drawing for a copy of Nancy Mehl’s Shattered Sanctuary. And be sure to check out my blog Friday–I’ll be reviewing Nancy’s book!

Share on XI don’t know if you can tell, but I grew up on country music…and is probably one of the reasons most of the songs I share here are that genre. Today I’m sharing a song by Dolly Parton, a singer I greatly admire. Not only has she gone from a country girl to a superstar, but she’s given back so much to the community–the Imagination Library, which provides free books to children, and the Dollywood Foundation, which supports education and disaster relief. She was one of the first to step in and help after the 2016 wildfires in Sevier County and the 2021 flooding in Humphreys County.

Do I see a trend, Mary? We’ll see…
Parton’s “Coat of Many Colors” makes me cry. Such a beautifully told story within the song. This week I’m going with number 3; it’s just too funny about the stairs!
Author
Coat of Many Colors makes me cry, too, Priscilla. And definitely a trend with #3…
Great photo, Tim!
I’m with the majority so far, # 3. It was hard to pick.
Author
Goodness, 4 in a row for #3…and I loved Tim’s photo!
I am going with 2.

Hi, Sharon…finally someone with a number different than 3. lol We’ll see…
They’re all pretty crazy, of course. I’m going with number 2.
Author

We’ll see, Linda…
First, let me say I am humbled that Pat included my photo in her blog today. And, she chose a wonderful Scripture to go with it.
If any of these attorneys work for the prosecution, I’d want a refund on my taxes. I absolutely want numbers 2 and 3 to have been made up. OK, here’s my take:
#1. No. I ran off with the maid of honor.
#2. Have a problem understanding words, do you?
#3. I’m certainly glad you’re not my attorney.
#4. Now, that’s a foolish question.
I’m going to say you made up #4 this week, though the only reasonable one is #1.

It was an honor to use your beautiful photo, Tim! You did a great job with composition and everything! And the more I read of these lawyer gaffes, the more I want my tax dollars back when it’s the prosecutor doing the questioning, too. lol We’ll see next week if it’s #4–so far you’re the only one to guess that number…
I think I’m going with #1.

We’ll see, Joy!
Lovely photo, Tim. We were in DC when the cherry trees were blooming about 20 years ago. Very pretty.
I am guessing #2.
Author
I’d love to be in DC when the cherry trees are in bloom, Gloria! We’ll see next week if it’s #2.
Beautiful photo, Pat!

It’s Tim’s photo, Caryl. 🙂 and we’ll see next week if it’s #4.
#3 though all of them could be true cause some people are just that way….
Author
True, Mary Z! We’ll see next week.
Love Dolly. I will pick 2.
Author
Me, too, Juday. We’ll see next week!
#2 is too funny!

I thought it was, too, Natalya. 🙂 We’ll see.

We’ll see, Barbie D.!
All of these are ridiculous but I am going to say #4 is false. I could see someone asking #2 and accidentally saying committed instead of attempted.
I grew up on country music too. I have always love “Coat of Many Colors” and love to listen Dolly.

I love Coat of Many Colors, too, Carolyn. We’ll see next week if it’s #4…
Great picture Tim! Love the verse too! I’m going with #2
Author
I agree about the picture, Shelia! We’ll see next week if it’s #2.
I love the picture and the scripture. I wonder if Solomon was living today, would he add a phrase after “the flowers appear on the earth” that said “and pollen covered everything?” Either the pollen is thicker this year, or the rains are lighter and failing to wash it away. Sorry, but it’s late and I’ve gotten silly.
My only word for these lawyers: What maroons? (Bugs Bunny)
I know I’m going against others who seem to always get it right, but I think #3 was made up. To me, it’s the only one that has a clear answer. I can’t fathom a staircase that does not go both ways. The others don’t provide enough information for me to say they aren’t true.
I have always loved Southern Gospel music, but throughout my childhood and teen years it was hard to find Southern Gospel on the radio. We didn’t have a TV. I listened to Country Music most of the time back then. You keep bringing back old memories.

My white car is now yellow, Edward. lol And the songs take me back to my youth as well. I remember watching Dolly Parton when she worked with Porter Wagoner. We’ll see next week if it’s #3.
