More Dumb Laws 5 ~ Mystery Question

More Dumb Laws 5

More Dumb Laws 5 is this week’s Mystery Question. I’m really enjoying these dumb laws and I hope you are as well. But first the photo and Scripture.

I took this photo early one morning just as the sun topped the horizon on my way to water aerobics. Don’t worry, I pulled over and took it. 🙂 When I went through a difficult time many years ago, I memorized the first verses in Isaiah 43 and repeated them often. I still do when anxiety threatens.

Now for last week’s Mystery Question: Although I’m not under a tight deadline right now, I’m enjoying these dumb laws. Even if it is difficult to come up with a dumb law that’s not already on the books! So once again this week’s Mystery Question is about some of the dumb laws of our land.  Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on some state’s books, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some of the laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
  1. In one state it is illegal to set a mouse trap without a hunting license. (California)
  2. Another state has a law against wearing a fake mustache that causes laughter in church. (Alabama)
  3. It’s against the law to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp. (Georgia)
  4. Wearing mismatched socks on a Sunday is punishable by a fine.

And the answer is…#4! Congrats on all who guessed correctly.

Now for this week’s Mystery Question. Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on some state’s books, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some of the laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
  1. Women may be fined for falling asleep under a hair dryer, as can the salon owner.
  2. A dog must step back a hundred feet from any residence he wishes to bark at.
  3. Residents may not fish from a giraffe’s back.
  4. Citizens are not allowed to attend a movie nor ride in a public streetcar within at least four hours after eating garlic.

Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.

July’s winner is Paula Shreckhise!

Four dumb laws, three made up, and one false. Can you guess which one I made up? Leave your answers in the comments, and I'll enter you in an August drawing for a book from my library. Share on X

I’ll choose the giraffe, too! These are too funny.
    Beautiful photo and verse!
Thanks for choosing me to win last month! Blessings!

I’m going with #2. I hope #4 is for real. I love garlic but not breathing in someone else’s breath. LOL!

Wonderful photo. It really drew me in. That verse is so calming. Thanks for sharing those.

    Congratulations to Paula!

And to think it is someone’s job to think up these crazy laws. It makes you wonder what the conversation was when they were thinking these up. OK, you had to have made up #2. How do you explain to a dog that it must pace off 100 feet from the house it chooses to bark at? Give the dog a measuring tape?

I’ve been re-watching the movies in the “God’s Not Dead” series. I just learned the production company’s (Pinnacle Peak Productions) 5th movie in this series, “Rise Up”, is scheduled to be released Sept. 8. If you have not seen these movies, they are very good, and very inspiring. https://watch.plex.tv/movie/gods-not-dead-rise-up

Regarding the new God’s Not Dead movie, I have not yet seen an official trailer. However, there is a “fake” trailer that is fan made, and has an apocalyptic plot which “might” be a way of eventually ending the series. From what I’ve read about the soon-to-be-released “Rise Up” movie, the plot is entirely different as you can read in the link I provided in my 1st post.

Thanks, Tim–glad you enjoyed the photo and verse! Wouldn’t you like to be a fly on the wall at some of the meetings where they’re talking about these laws! I haven’t watched the “God’s Not Dead” movies yet–it’s so hard for me to find time to watch a movie!

      We’ll see next week if it’s #2…

Tim’s right, those are great movies. And that is one of my fav. Bible verses ever. Number 4 from last week SHOULD be a law. I may be wrong, but this week I’ll go with #2. I’d like to see any authorities enforce it!

Love the scripture and the photo! Like the majority so far, I’m going with #2. I had to laugh when I pictured a dog owner trying to instruct their pup to move back 100 ft before barking!

Beautiful photo and Scripture, Pat. Isaiah 43 is one of favorites.

These are all so crazy! Going with the gang on #2. When a dog is barking non-stop even 100 feet is not far enough away.

I agree with Tim, those are great movies. Powerful!

    Congratulations, Paula.

Love this photo and verse! I chuckled at all of these “laws” but laughed out loud at #4. My guess is #2.
I, too, agree that the God’s Not Dead movies are great.

  8. Joy Shelden

I choose #2, mostly because dogs can’t count or measure, so how are they to know if they’re the required distance away or not? Dogs are pretty smart, but not that smart!

Love the picture and Scripture. I could sit and look at a view like that one for hours. It’s kinda sad that the display in the sky can be so gorgeous one minute and a few minutes later, it has all changed. Then soon, it’s a normal day when the usual sights.

I’ll have to agree with everyone else that #2 is made up. Besides the things already mentioned about dogs not being able to measure, etc., I can’t recall seeing a dog standing and barking at a house. Typically, they are barking at people, other dogs, squirrels, etc. If it’s a vacant house and there is no one around, is the dog really barking?

Love your last sentence/question Edward. 🙂 And I so agree about the sky changing very quickly. If I see something and I want to photograph it, I better have a camera with me or it gone by the time I get back with one. We’ll see next week if it’s the very popular #2.

Are you sure you didn’t make all these up? . But, I’m going to be different and say #1 mainly because I fall asleep under the dryer at times and I would hate to be arrested for it! Plus I wouldn’t want a dog barking outside my bedroom window and see where it could cause a disturbance. So, I’ll go with #1.

How funny!! I guess crime was a lot lower back in “the day”, especially in smaller towns and they had to arrest who or what, they could.
