More Dumb Laws 3 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 44 Comments

More Dumb Laws 3; Psalm 119:105More Dumb Laws 3 is this week’s Mystery Question. I’m under the gun to get my edits in today…hoping to get them in by midnight. But first the photo and Scripture verse.

The photo was taken of my church late one evening before the sunset. I love the pinks and blues that show up and Psalm 119:105 is one of the first Bible verses I learned, after John 3:16.

Last week’s Mystery Question is about some of the dumb laws of our land –More Dumb Laws. Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on some state’s books, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some of the laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
  1. One city ordinance says it shall be unlawful to put any hypnotized person in a display window. ~ Oklahoma
  2. Here’s a responsible one: All fire hydrants must be checked one hour before all fires. Pennsylvania
  3. In one city, it is illegal for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it, waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians. Tennessee (Memphis)
  4. One town says not only is it illegal for a man to mow his grass on Sunday, but it’s also illegal for a woman to mow the grass at any time.

And the answer is… #4. These are some crazy laws. Congrats to all who answered correctly!

Once again (mainly becuase I’m under a deadline to get my edit in) this week’s Mystery Question is about some of the dumb laws of our land –More Dumb Laws. Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on some state’s books, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some of the laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
  1. Coins are not allowed to be placed in one’s nose.
  2. Driving is not to be done while asleep.
  3. The U.S. government says it’s a crime to give false weather reports.
  4. The dog catcher must notify dogs of impounding by posting, for three consecutive days, a notice on a tree in the city park and along a public road running through said park.

Okay Super Sleuths which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library.

I love the sunset sky photo, so pretty. Wonderful verse, too. I think you made up number 1 because people wouldn’t do that. It’d hurt!

Such a beautiful photo! I think that Psalm was one of the first I learned, too. I seem to remember the teacher explaining that in those days, people would have a candle attached to their shoes to provide light where they walked. As I think about it now, maybe she made it up, but the picture it gave me was apt.

I believe you made up #4. The tip off to me was that the dogs had to be notified. Now, maybe that is a typo. I certainly hope so. It would be appropriate to post the notice on the trees, though. 🙂

Thank you, Tim. I love the picture your teacher gave you…not sure she didn’t make it up, either. But it worked! And I love your logic with #4…next week will tell how that works for you. 😉

I’m going to go with #3. Even if true, it’s a crime that’s committed constantly! #4 is so crazy, I suspect it is on the books somewhere. May the last of your edits go WELL!

Thank you for the well-wishes on my edits, Delores. I have finished the ending and now must go back and fix everything that the ending changed. lol We’ll see next week if it’s #3.

  4. Trudy

I’m going with #4 being the one you made up; however, #3 would mean quite a few should be in prison!!!

Ain’t that the truth, Trudy! I’ve often said if a weatherman would just go outside and look at the sky, he’d give a better report. lol We’ll see if it’s #4 next week.

Beautiful photo…love the way the colors stream across the page!

I’m going with #4, because some dogs might not be able to read! 😉

Peace be with you as you finish up the edits!

Thanks, Barbara! Am diligently sitting at the desk answering comments, but now going back to the edits! Love your logic for #4…we’ll see next week how that works. 😉

Like Tim, I think that verse was one of the first that I learned. I think I it was my third grade teacher who had each student to memorize a new Bible verse each week. On a certain day, she would go around the room and have each one quote the verse they had memorized. The verse was our choice. Often, a verse one student quoted last week was quoted by several others the next. I think John 11:35 was the all-time favorite. There were a number of verses in Psalms that many of us learned. I love the picture, especially the church steeple and the clouds that look like a leaning cross. It connects the church with the trees and the sky.

I choose #3. Even if it’s true, it’s as meaningless as many of the other government laws and regulations that they themselves constantly ignore, or twist to support their own opinions.

Jesus wept. Yeah, that might’ve actually been the first one I learned. 🙂 Oh, I wish for the days that learning Scripture verses was part the school day!

I love taking photos of our church. Often in Spring and Fall there’s a photo op for getting the stained glass windows just before dark that is so moving. So far it hasn’t translated well to the camera. 😉

We’ll see if it’s #3 next week. And I agree with you!

I think it’s #1 because enforcing it would cause the incarceration of practically every toddler in the area! Imagine having a criminal record by the time you reach preschool…

God is an awesome artist! The sky is never the same on any given day.
I’m going with #1, otherwise lots of kids would need to be arrested!
