More Dumb Criminals

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 49 Comments

It’s hard to believe summer is coming to a close…school has been in session here for three weeks…I can remember when we didn’t return to school until after Labor Day! I’m finally getting my head back into the first Natchez book after the bathroom remodel – didn’t write anything for six weeks. And Christmas will be here in 129 days! Wow.

And now on to last week’s Mystery Question: Three of the following crimes are true. I made up one of the crimes. Can you guess which one?
  1. A tip came into the local police department about cockfighting and the police went to investigate. When they knocked on the door, the man who answered took one look at the uniforms and said, “I guess you’re here about the opium.” They weren’t but they were happy to arrest him.
  2. During a lull at an animal expo, one man created a diversion while another man reached into a glass cage holding a $1500 rare python and quickly grabbed it. He slipped it in a bag he was carrying and made his getaway. Two days later police nabbed him when he advertised the snake on Craig’s List for $300. The arresting officer reported he probably wouldn’t have been caught if he’d asked more for the snake.
  3. A hapless robber swiped his debit card at the teller window, then demanded money from the teller. She handed him $565, but his victory was short lived when the police used the information from his debit card to track him to his house and arrested him.
  4. When police responded to a battery complaint, the suspect had fled. The police checked out his Facebook page and discovered his profile photo was a wanted poster from a nearby county. Cops headed back to his house and arrested him on the outstanding warrants. Caught by surprise, he was pantless and the policemen allowed him to put on a pair of pants. Unfortunately, a bag of pot fell out of his pocket. He’s now serving time for battery AND possession of marijuana.

And the answer is…#2. Congrats to all who got the correct answer! But can you believe the others are actually TRUE? I mean, who would put his real wanted poster on Facebook? And who would use his own debit card at a bank and then turn around and rob the place? And the guy with the opium…that stuff was worth over $2,000,000!

Anyway, now on to this week’s Mystery Question: One of the following is not true:
  1. Security cameras caught three burglars breaking into and robbing a restaurant. When police failed to catch the burglars, the restaurant owner used the videos and text overlays to spoof the burglars. The video ends with a caption that says the restaurant takes full responsibility for the crazy things people do in quest of our food.
  2. A  man was charged with trying to electrocute his father after finding out he was his father’s sole beneficiary. He attached two wires to his father’s chest and the elderly man passed out briefly. When the son left the room, the man escaped and called the police.
  3. A woman tried to fatally poison her husband not once, but twice, by putting anti-freeze in his wine. When the ambulance arrived she handed the paramedics a note, supposedly written by her 70-something husband stating he didn’t want to be resuscitated because he wanted to die with “dignerty.” When asked to spell dignity, she spelled it “dignerty”. The kicker though were texts between the woman and her daughter detailing how they planned to kill him.
  4. In 1999, a woman was found dead with a cassette recorder in one hand and a gun in the other. When the police arrived, they pressed play on the cassette and heard her state she had nothing to live for, and then there was a gunshot. Instead of ruling the death a suicide, the police arrested the husband after learning he would inherit over a million dollars from her death. Why did they even suspect foul play? Who rewound the cassette tape?

Okay, Super Sleuths, which is the one I made up? Leave a comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!

You are so good at these, I still say collect them and put them in a book. I love them all but also think it’s #1. It’s darling, but there are probably privacy issues that would prevent the restaurant from using people’s images w/o permission, lol.

I have decided on #3. I’ve never tasted wine but cannot imagine a person drinking wine laced with enough anti-freeze to kill him without knowing there was something mighty strange about the taste. Having grown up around an old-fashioned filling station and putting anti-freeze in a number of cars, it seems the smell alone would have caused a person to stop before imbibing. If this one is true, the old man must have already lost his sense of smell and taste.

Hi Patricia, I say 3. I can’t find a reason any of these can be false but, 3 was humorous and you got a great sense of humor. Lol happy day!

I love the picture you used this week! I grew up in the northeast-school still doesn’t start until after labor day there. School started a couple of weeks ago here, as well. Hopefully your 6-week break gave you a rest and left you inspired!

I am going to guess #2 this week. Unfortunately, I can see #1 and #3 happening; #2 could probably happen, it just doesn’t seem quite as plausible to have occurred. #4 is fantastic!

So glad you liked my picture, Diane. Can’t decide if they’re the 3 Stooges or Larry and Darrel and Darrel. 🙂 And we’ll see next week if it’s #2. Thanks for stopping by.

Total guessing game this week, but I’m going to say #4. I also can’t believe I got the last weeks mystery question correct…. miracles never cease…lol!

Keep doing these, Patricia! It’s fun to see what is true and what is made up. Even though some of those lines are rather blurry 🙂
