More Crazy State Laws #60 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 47 Comments

More Crazy State Laws #60 is this week’s Mystery Question. It’s also my first blog post of 2025!

When we were back in the 1990’s did you ever think how strange the year 2025 sounded? It seemed so far away and now here we are.

Do you make New Year’s Resolutions? Or set goals at the beginning of each year? I don’t make resolutions, and I rarely set goals for the year. Sometimes I find a word to focus on. I’ve done that for this year, and the word is rejoice. The Scripture for it is found in Thessalonians. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

That verse and the one in Psalms are good life verses. Oh, and I took the photo while I was in Florida with my family for the Holidays.

Now for this week’s More Crazy State Laws #60. Three of the following laws are for real. I made up one. Can you guess which one? And thank you Dottie McVay for sending me some of these…
  1. Christmas was banned in this state before it was declared a national holiday.
  2. In this state, at one time if you owed a debt and it fell due on Christmas, you had to pay it a day early…Christmas Eve.
  3. Chimneys had to be cleaned in this state before Christmas Eve.
  4. You can’t put up a real Christmas tree (live) in a retail store in this state.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a January drawing for a book from my library.

If you haven’t listened to my interview at The Because Fiction — Taking the Pulse of Christian Fiction podcast, check it out. The host, Chautona Havig, and I had a blast doing it. 🙂

I’m probably wrong but I’m going with #1. The others seem like they could very well be real.
My word for 2025 is blessings.
“A faithful man will abound with blessings…”

Headline: Cotton balls flying over Florida. Seagulls traumatized! LoL

No, I don’t make resolutions any longer. I could never keep them. But I do set some goals.

Like you, I am trying to rejoice and give thanks in all things. I am working on not sweating the small stuff, because most likely it won’t matter and it causes stress. So maybe I will choose a phrase instead of a word. Let it go!

    I’m going with #1.

What a lovely photograph, Pat! Stunning! A view to be thankful to God for, as your chosen verse declares.

Oh, these laws are so much fun.
#1. I think you made this one up because it would be against the 1st Amendment.
    #2. Seems reasonable.
#3. I can see this one for fire safety reasons.
#4. Again, reasonable for fire safety reasons.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and will enjoy a blessed New Year.

I will guess #1 to go along with Tim, Delores and the others. Seems the logical choice.
I make goals mostly for reading and finishing my craft projects.

I’m so glad you are back Patricia, and you are so welcome. It’s been a while since I sent you a crazy law, I have forgotten! Your Florida vacation sounds wonderful, to be able to relax by a pool, in the sunshine, in December. That’s awesome.

My “goals” for the year is to declutter and organize, and my word for the year will be HOPE. Right now I’m hoping we don’t get this snowstorm they are predicting for here Friday!
I’m choosing #3. Maybe Santa needs a clean chimney to go down??

I do not make New Year’s Resolutions or set goals at the beginning of each year 🙂
    “For God alone my soul waits in silence;
    from him comes my salvation.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.”
    Psalm 62:1-2
