More Crazy Laws #66 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 58 Comments

More Crazy Laws #66 is this week’s Mystery Question. I laugh every week as I search for new crazy laws–who would’ve known there were this many!

But first the photo and verse. The sea always gives me peace when I look out over it, whether it’s the Sea of Galilee or the Atlantic Ocean, as in this case. Of course, I’ve never been on either when there was a storm…and I don’t want to be. 🙂 But Paul had been, and the people he was writing to in this verse were in a stormy sea, yet he could still tell them that the Lord would give them peace if they but cling to him. We can do the same.

Now for last week’s More Crazy Laws #65. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
  1. Here it’s illegal to sell silverware on Sundays. (SC)
  2. You can go to jail here if you promise to marry a woman while trying to seduce her.  (SC)
  3. Leaving your shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot here will incur a fine–so be sure to return it to the corral.
  4. Did you know it was illegal to remove a railroad from a town with more than 500 people here. (SC)

And the correct answer is…#3 That’s one of those things that should be a law! I’ll find a good spot at the grocery and when I go to pull in, there sits a buggy (that’s what we call them here). 😀

Now for last week’s More Crazy Laws #66. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
  1. If you have an armadillo here, don’t try to sell it — that’s illegal.
  2. Here a fortune-teller who advertises can face a fine of up to $144.50.
  3. Did you know buying or selling hollow lo gs here is completely illegal?
  4. Not that you would do it, but stealing a horse here is still punishable by the death penalty.
Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a February drawing for a book from my library.

#1 Armadillos have been creeping north. We see them all over in Missouri.
Love the picture and verse. That new cover is stunning!

Fantastic photo, Pat. Like the verse, the ocean calms me, too. But stay away from stormy ones!

Great cover for your new book.

    Dumb laws:
#1. I don’t have an armadillo to sell, so I think I’m safe.
#2. $144.50 fine for advertising fortune telling? Where did they get that amount from?
#3. Nope. No hollow logs from me. What? I can’t even buy one? Huh.
    #4. Definitely, I’m not stealing a horse… anywhere.
I think you made up #1.

I’ll go w/ #2 this time, but they’re all totally crazy. I can’t imagine #4 being enforced these days, but who knows . . .

I’m going to go with #2. Pretty sure number four could still be on the books here in Texas!

One of my favorite parts to Crazy Laws is seeing which state has the crazy law on their books!

Beautiful photo, Pat. And you are correct you really don’t want to be on either in a storm.

The peace of the Lord is a priceless gift! I’ll say amen to that

Going with #2. James seconds the motion. We were both wrong last week! lol

Congratulations on the suspenseful looking book cover and ANOTHER great book to anticipate!

Beautiful photo! I, too, find looking out over calm water very relaxing and peaceful.
Great book cover! I’m looking forward to returning to Logan Point although I hope to re-read the first Logan Point series.

I’m late again. Somehow, I find it more and more difficult to get to this earlier in the day. Great picture! Actually, I have been out on the ocean when it looked like that. I was about 14 years old. My parents took us deep-sea fishing. Although there were severe storm warnings in effect, the boat owners sent their boats out anyway. It was a better day for feeding fish than for catching them. We would not have gone out, but the tickets were purchased in advance. Quite an experience. We had to rely on that verse of Scripture and any others that spoke of peace in the storms.

Can I take my armadillo to another state and sell it? Or should I set it free in the middle of the highway?
I wonder if the fortunetellers can look into the future and know that fine is only going to go up?
If I want a hollow log, is it okay if the owner gives it to me? Or do I have to steal it?
If I steal a horse there, I will hope that it’s fast enough to outrun the law? Of course, I would probably fall off, break my neck, and die. Oh, that’s the penalty for stealing it, isn’t it?

I am choosing #1. I think it would be difficult to enforce.

I love any photos or paintings of the ocean, my happy place!
#4 I’m sure was legit back in the 1800s but seems a little extreme for these days. ….but these are crazy laws, right? But I’m still going with #4.
