More Crazy Laws #61 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 45 Comments

More Crazy Laws #61 is this week’s Mystery Question. I never would have believed there are so many crazy laws on the books. Some are from years ago, but believe it or not, some are from the present day! I shake my head at them.

But first the photo and verse. When I took the photo, it was for the beautiful sunset, but as I looked at it, the branches stood out and I thought of the verse in John. We are the branch, but so often we want to be the vine — or tree — when we are not. Jesus is. He is where we get our sustenance.

Now onto the answers to last week’s post. Four crazy state laws, and only one of them is false.
  1. Christmas was banned in this state before it was declared a national holiday. (MA)
  2. In this state, at one time if you owed a debt and it fell due on Christmas, you had to pay it a day early…Christmas Eve. (LA)
  3. Chimneys had to be cleaned in this state before Christmas Eve.
  4. You can’t put up a real Christmas tree (live) in a retail store in this state. (NY)

And the answer is…#3. Congrats to all who guessed correctly!

Now for this week’s More Crazy Laws #61. As usual, three are true and one is false. Can you guess which one?
  1. It’s illegal to drive here while your dog is tied to your car.
  2.  It is against the law to tickle women here, but not men.
  3. Here it’s illegal to wash your neighbor’s car without permission.
  4. Do not adjust your stockings here (if you still wear stockings).

Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a January drawing for a book from my library!

I very rarely get it right. I’m going to once again guess #4, LOL
Love the scripture you used with the beautiful photo.

Your interview is good! I think there can be a lot of emotion if a person is tied to the land and it’s taken through eminent domain.

My guess this week is number 3 because I don’t think people have the time and energy to go around washing other people’s cars without recompense.

Once again I love your verse and photo! The beautiful countryside and white fence, so relaxing, and I even zoomed in the birdhouse. I bet they love it!
I sure hope #1 is a law, surely.
I’m going to guess #4 this time. I haven’t bought any in years, but I did see a package at Dollar Tree the other day. lol!
I’m so glad to hear you are working on the next book. Keep them coming Patricia, you’re the best!!

Love the photo, especially the fence. Peaceful looking. It’s a gorgeous sunset. It’s just an all over lovely setting. And the verse. . . YES!!!

I’m going with #3, but I’d be real happy if a neighbor washed my car!!

I think you made up #1. I can understand a pet being restained IN the car, but TO it?…No, no, no, you made that one up!

What an enjoyable photo, Pat! So beautiful. The branches theme from John is very fitting, too. There is even a worship band called Branches Band (http://branchesband.com/) that my church has hosted on a number of occasions.

These crazy laws are so crazy I sometimes wonder if even some of the “real” ones aren’t made up for the Internet just to make people shake their heads. Anyway, here goes:
#1. It ought a be a law everywhere, but it should also be common sense.
#2. Aw, this one certainly seems sexist. Better start running, men.
#3. This one actually makes sense. There might be a good reason for keeping a neighbor from washing your Rolls Nice.
#4. This one actually made me wonder what the difference is between stockings and socks. After all, I don’t want to be breaking the no adjustment law. 🙂
I think you made up #2 because, well, it’s just crazy.

    And thanks for the puzzle.

That’s a beautiful picture, and I certainly see the connection with the verse. Good choice!

Over the past 60-plus weeks, I have tried to reason these out. For many of them, I don’t think there is any logic. Others really make sense if you think about them. For example, I could fully support the first one today, assuming it means if the dog is tied to the bumper of the car and being dragged along by the car. I’m sure SPCA would support that law. I’m choosing #4. It’s vague, but if a lady feels the need to go into the restroom to adjust her stockings, who cares? Maybe it was meant to stop women from adjusting their stockings in public, but it doesn’t say that. I think it was made up.

Hi, Edward. I agree about the laws. There is no logic to them…and that makes it hard to make one up. But I think the three that are supposed to be true really are true. There’s a website that looks at laws everyone thinks are laws but aren’t and none of these are on them. 🙂 We’ll see Tuesday if it’s #4…

Thank you for the podcast, I have learned about some authors and their books!
This is my first time guessing your crazy laws, and I will go with #4 because it’s hubby’s favorite number!
