More Crazy Laws #30 ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 36 Comments

More Crazy Laws #30 is this week’s Mystery Question. I was going to do a different topic, but I lost the page of interesting facts! Maybe I’ll find it in time for next week. Or maybe not since I’ll be getting ready for the MidSouth Christian Writers Conference where I’m giving the morning keynote!

Now for this week’s photo and verse. Priscilla Bettis emailed me the photo Sunday of Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks from last night (through a telescope in our backyard). It’s 153 million miles away.

The comet has a slightly green tint because it’s got cyanide and double-bonded carbon. When the sun’s UV photons hit those particular molecules, UV light energizes the electrons. When the electrons return to normal energy (which they want to do because excited electrons are unstable), they release their own photons that glow green.
Fascinating information, Priscilla, and thank you so much for allowing me to use your awesome photo!
Now for last week’s More Crazy Laws #29. Three of the following laws are true and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
  1. It is illegal to poach a Venus Flytrap. (NC)
  2. Here is illegal to sell toothpaste and a toothbrush to the same customer on a Sunday. (RI)
  3. No work may be done on Sunday here. An exception is that light bulbs may be sold. (SC)
  4. It is illegal to take a nap in a chocolate factory.

And the answer is…#4. Congrats to all who guess correctly!

Now for this week’s More Crazy Laws #30. Three of the following laws are true and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
  1. Eating watermelons in the cemetery is illegal.
  2. Milking another person’s goat is illegal.
  3. It is illegal to catch a fish with a lasso.
  4. In one city, a person cannot go barefoot without first getting a special five-dollar permit.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a March drawing for a book from my library.

The picture and verse are outstanding. Tricky question. I’m going with #2. Don’t touch things that don’t belong to you. You tickled my funny bone with #1. So many of family and friends have passed away. I can’t imagine walking through the Veteran’s Cemetery to visit my husband and others, walking between watermelon vines from spit out seeds. LOL!

Perfect verse for an awesome picture!
It’s hard to believe any of these could be laws! I’ll guess #1.
Wishing you well, Pat, at the Christian Writers Conference! I know you will be great!

Amazing photo Priscilla! Gorgeous! Interesting facts, Pat, about the comet. The Scripture couldn’t be more perfect. Just think, God names all those stars.

Yay for the chocolate factory! Finally got one right! lol

    1. There was an abandoned RR track in back of my house where I lived. I would walk down the track a bit until I came to an opening in the cemetery, where I would have a picnic by myself. I never took watermelon, though.

#2 Milking another persons goat is stealing, unless they gave permission.

    3. I agree with Delores, I think catching the fish with a lasso would be impossible. However, I have watched some creative videos where folks in primitive countries catch fish all kinds of ways. So, I am uncertain.

    4. Oh my, a permit to go barefooted! My parents would have had to pay a lot of fines.

These are difficult!!! Going with a hesitant #3, because surely there are easier ways to catch fish?

    Enjoy the conference 🙂

Wonderful photo, Priscilla! I love comets. Good verse to match the photo, too.

Pat, I wish you a successful keynote speech, and hope you have a great time at the conference.

    #1. Probably not just watermelons.
#2. Goat milk stealing is serious business. Is there a black market for goat’s milk?
#3. Fish lassoing should be a competitive event. Those fish have to be jumping!
#4. Fine could be more for dirty feet.
OK. I think you made up #2. I’d have no trouble keeping that law.

That’s a great shot of the comet. The verse causes me to realize how amazing that God numbers the stars and gives them names. I can’t even count the number of stars in that photo.

I’m choosing #3. I think that would be more challenging than a hook, so who would want to prevent pain to the fish.

I’ve always when fascinated with the night skies and space exploration. We serve an awesome God. Not only does He name every star, He also knows the number of hairs on each persons head. I must keep Him busy because I lose many everyday!
My husband chose this week. He thinks it’s #1.

That’s a really neat picture. Thank you, Priscilla, for sharing it. Wow, these laws just get crazier. So funny! I’m going to guess #2 .

Hi Patricia! Another awesome photo and even more so on the verse you chose to go with it! Can you just imagine naming every star and could go back to it again and still know it?? Our God is Awesome!!
These crazy laws are just that, but I’m going to guess #3. I don’t see how anyone could be fast enough to catch a fish that way, unless it’s some big fish tales!!
