More Crazy Justice Crimes is this week’s Mystery Question, but first the photo and verse. I thought the butterfly went very well with last week’s photo of the lantana. And I’ve always loved the verse in Isaiah 41. I wasn’t sure i would get to post this week. A friend ended up in the hospital and I’ve been there, without my computer, since Saturday morning. But I got home just in time to write the post. 🙂
Now for last week’s On the Spot Justice–this week’s Mystery Question. As usual, three are true and one is made up. Can you guess which one?
- When a coworker didn’t show up on the job, her concerned coworkers called her and left messages but she never answered. Then deputies and paramedics received a report of a man who’d collapsed in his yard. When they arrived, there were no signs that his death was anything other than natural causes–a cardiac arrest…until they found the missing coworker in a freshly dug hole. Evidently the man had strangled her and the effort to dispose of her body was too much for his heart.
- A passerby saw legs sticking out of a hole in the ground and discovered the body of a man. Beside him was a shovel and tool case. The hole was directly above a coffin…need I say more?
- The twenty-four-year old thug thought breaking into the home a seventy-something year-old woman would be a piece of cake. And probably would have been if the woman hadn’t been a self-defense instructor at the local gym.
- A man rudely pushed his way onto the subway, almost knocking an older man off his feet. His foul mouth and lack of an apology didn’t win him any points, either, especially an hour later when he handed his job application to the older man for a cushy job.
And the answer is…#3. Congrats to all who guessed correctly.
Now for this week’s More Crazy Justice Crimes–this week’s Mystery Question. As usual, three are true and one is made up. Can you guess which one?
- There’d been a rash of burglaries in a Florida neighborhood that bordered a pond. When neighbors saw two men dressed in black skulking about, they called police. The two men went on the run. While the police heard screaming, they couldn’t pinpoint where it was coming from. Ten days later the remains of one of the alleged burglars were found in the pond that was guarded by an 11-foot alligator. An autopsy on the gator revealed the partial remains of the missing burglar.
-
And older woman had a $100,000 insurance policy payable to her niece. The niece, who lived with her aunt in a rural area near a small town, was putting arsenic in her aunt’s sugar. The arsenic caused stomach problems, and the niece dutifully took her aunt to the doctor, where blood work failed to reveal the arsenic because the doctor didn’t test specifically for the poison. Unfortunately, on one of the trips to town, the niece was t-boned by another car and needed a blood transfusion, except the local hospital was low on blood and didn’t have the niece’s type. The aunt, who had the same blood type, was happy to provide the blood which promptly killed the niece. The arsenic had built up in the aunt’s blood and was too much for the niece who had no arsenic in her bloodstream.
- It was a neighborhood barbershop, the kind where the barber had a safe that he never locked, mainly because the only thing in it was a ring. The kind with a man who polished and shined shoes. One day the ring went missing, and after a thorough search, Shoe Shine was arrested, even though he greatly protested his inocence. At the trial Shoe Shine was found not guilty. On the way out of the courtroom, he was overheard asking his lawyer, “Does this mean I get to keep the ring?”
-
A man robbed a bank and was arrested. The bank video was fuzzy and distorted and it came down to a bank teller’s eye-witness testimony. She described the robber, givng a detailed description. Height, build, hair, face, complexion, clothes. “He doesn’t look exactly like that in the bank videos,” said the defense. “How can you be so sure?” Because, she answered, “He’s wearing the same clothes he wore when he robbed us.”
Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a July drawing for a book from my library! And don’t let the difference in print size fool you–that’s only because my blog analytic says I needed to have different size print.

Yikes! I think it would be easier to tell you which one I don’t think is made up. #1 seems more plausible. I feel like I’ve heard a lot of alligator stories. I think it could happen. The others….it’s a toss up! Let’s go with #2. I’d like to think that routine bloodwork would have been done when she went to the dr. They would have seen something.
Hope your friend is doing ok!
Author
Andrea, my friend is much better and I’m recovering from the stress and exhaustion a hospital stay can bring! We’ll see if it’s #2 next week. 🙂
I’m going to guess #2 for this one.
Author
We’ll see, Angela!
I’m so sorry your friend is in the hospital. I hope he/she recovers soon.
This is tough, hm. I’m going with number 1 because I think an 11-foot alligator would make a lot of splashing noise. The neighbors would have heard more than some screams.
Author
Love your logic, Priscilla! We’ll see if it helps next week. 🙂
Going with #2 this week.
Author
We’ll see, Priscilla!
Love the butterfly and verse. I’ll go with #4
Author
Thanks, Lucy. I love that butterfly, too! We’ll see next week if it’s #4.
Isaiah 41:10 is one of my absolute favorite verses! 🙂 Butterflies represent transformation to me, so seeing this beauty on the lovely lantana just starts my day out perfectly!
#1 Sounds like the adventures of Gwyneth the gator. Yay for second floor balconies!
#3 I can just hear a burglar asking if he gets to keep the ring! Uh, no you don’t!
#4 Since I used to be a bank teller, I could relate to this. She was attentive and recognized his clothes. Her training paid off!
#2 Is my guess, because of WW and a great beginning! 😉
Thanks for putting these together for us, Pat. I so enjoy them.
Author
Hi Barbara! Love your logic. 😉 I’ll have a comment on the correct answer next week. I’m so looking forward to the larger butterflies that will come through here later in the summer. Do you have any idea what kind of butterfly that one is?
Hey Pat. The butterfly looks a bit like a female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. It’s beautiful! We went to the Butterfly conservatory in Niagara Falls many years ago. Oh my goodness. It was fantastic! We decided to plant a butterfly bush in our yard. It grew big, but never attracted any butterflies. When they do come to your area, I hope you get a bunch of pics and share them with us. Butterflies are pretty special to me. Blessings!

I love butterflies and cardinals, Barbara. And I do believe you’re right about it being a swallowtail.
You made up #2 this time. Don’t ask me how I know 🙂
I thought a word was misspelled and then suddenly it wasn’t!!! But it could have been my eyes playing tricks!
Author
I’m sure it was, Paula. lol I was so tired last night when I was typing the questions into the post that I misspelled several words. lol
Author
Hy Delores…We’ll see…we’ll see. 😉

Author
We’ll see, Judy.
What a twist in the story LOL
I’m going with #2
Author
We’ll see, Natalya…
Beautiful picture! Wonderful Scripture verse!
I choose #1 by random selection. The more I try to reason these out, the more I miss it. On the flip side, it doesn’t seem that it should have been that difficult to determine where the screaming came from, particularly if there were houses all around the pond.
Author
We’ll see, Edward. I like the random selection thingy. 😉
Our Heavenly Father gifted you to see beauty everywhere. Thank you for sharing it with us each week. The verse has always been one of my very favorites.
I don’t know if #2 is made up, but I HAD to chose it because I love the perfect justice of it!! It should have been an episode of the 1960’s series “Hitchcock Presents” with the theme ‘Funeral March of a Marionette’ playing in the background. In the end, the bad guys always got their punishment one crazy way or another. So #2 for me!
Author
Love your logic, Debra! We’ll see. 😉
2. Love these .
Author
Glad you enjoy them, Lynn! We’ll see.
Absolutely beautiful photo of that butterfly, Pat. Nice shot! The verse you chose fits well. Love it.
I pray your friend recovers quickly, and that you recharge quickly from the stress. I know what that’s like.
Congrats to MS Barb for winning the drawing.
Well, #1, #3 and #4 are very likely true. #2 sounds like an Agatha Christie plot twist. I think you made up #2. Great mystery writers think alike 😉
Hope everyone had a great and safe 4th of July.
Author
Thanks for the prayers, Tim! And wow! to be mentioned in the same sentence with Agatha Christie is awesome! Thank you. 🙂 And we’ll see next week if you are correct.
I’ll go with #3. I hope your friend is much better . Your photo is Beautiful and I love the verse. Have a great week and stay safe.
Author
My friend is much better, Alicia. Now to just get stronger. I’m so glad you liked the photo and verse!
Isaiah 41:10 is a go to verse for me. Great choice. I am guessing #1 this week.
Author
Mine, too, Gloria! And I love Isiah 43:1-3 too! We’ll see next week if it’s #1.
I’m not at all good at these these things but I’m going to take a big guess and say number 2.
Author
Hi Beverly. We’ll see if this is the week you get good at the questions. 🙂 So glad you stopped by.
I think #2 is the made up one, but I admit that all of these sound very plausible.
Author
We’ll see, Megan. And I’m glad it wasn’t a slam-dunk. 😀
#4, but #2 is super scary.
Author
I agree, Mary. 🙂

Author
We’ll see, BN.
I agree with the majority! #2
Author
Number 2 is certainly popular, Joan. We’ll see next week.
#2
Author
We’ll see, Shelia!
I can’t believe you made up #3 last week! I’m pretty sure I read about an older lady who knew martial arts and fended off a robber, or something similar anyway. Guess I was surprised that I chose the wrong answer last week, lol!
I’ll go with #4 this week because it’s too hard to know the correct answer anymore 😀 You’re too good at this Patricia!
Author
Aww, shucks. Thank you, Trixi! We’ll see next week if I fooled you again. 😉
I’m going to classify your butterfly as a Spicebush Swallowtail. Biology was many years ago, but insect classification was a favorite subject. Yes, some of us are pretty nerdy! 🙂
I think I’ll guess #1 as well. I feel like the alligator would have made more noise and been noticed.
Author
Thank you, L. Murphy! We’ll see if you’re right about the alligator next week. 🙂
#4–maybe! You find very interesting stories for us!
Author
Thank you, Ms. Barb! And I’ll email you in a minute about your prize. 🙂 And we’ll see next Tuesday if you guessed the right one. 🙂

We’ll see, Caryl! Good to ‘see’ you. 🙂
