More Courtroom Comedy ~ Mystery Question

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 58 Comments

More Courtroom Comedy is this week’s Mystery Question. I don’t know that I’ll ever run out of these! More show up every time I do a search.

First the photo and verse. The photo is of an approaching storm in the Gulf, overriding the cumulus clouds that are reflected in the water. I thought it was an interesting study and love that verse. It goes well with the song below.

Now for last week’s Mystery Question, Crazy Things People Do and Say. In these four statements, people actually did or said under oath three of them…one is made up. Can you guess which one?
  1. The paroled client went in for a drug test with his probation officer, and his cell, that he wasn’t allowed to have, rang in his pocket. When he took the phone from his pocket, he also pulled out a large baggie of cocaine. THAT HE BROUGHT TO HIS DRUG TEST.
  2. One client wore a shirt that said ‘Natural Born Killer’ on it to a hearing. For an assault charge.
  3. The man accused of robbing a bank insisted on a line-up, despite the fact he had a purple birthmark on his left cheek. All five witnesses picked him out of the line-up.
  4. After the judge ordered a man to pay the money he owed, he got up to leave, but walked over to the guy suing him and said, ‘If you think you are going to see a dime of that money, you are a moron. I will kill you first.” He never made it out of the courtroom.

And the answer is…#3, Congrats to all who guessed correctly.

Now for this week’s Mystery Question. More Courtroom Comedy. In these four statements, people actually did or said under oath three of them…one is made up. Can you guess which one?
  1. Attorney: You claim your back was injured when you fell in my client’s place of business, and you are unable to work.
Witness: It’s the truth. I was barely able to walk into the courtroom today.
Attorney: Then can you explain these recent photos of you water skiing and riding a motorcycle?
  2. Attorney to witness on stand: Look around the courtroom, and tell the jury if you see the person that came into your store with a machete and robbed you.
Witness: Uh-huh. I don’t — I don’t remember the face. He was a regular customer in my store but —
Attorney: The person that robbed you was a regular customer in your store?
    Witness: Yes.
Attorney: Look around the courtroom. Do you see that person?
    Witness: What person?
Attorney: The person that came into your store with a machete and robbed you.
    Witness: Yes.
Attorney: Could you point that person out for the record, where he’s seated and what he’s wearing?
Witness: I’ve seen him in my store before, this guy right here.
Attorney: For the record, you just pointed to the court reporter.
THE COURT: I know you’re good, Mr. Reporter, but can you work that little machine in handcuffs?
  3. Attorney: Let’s go a little bit while longer and break for lunch.
    Witness: You’re kidding me.
Attorney: You get a lunch break.
    Witness: We’re not done?
Attorney: Oh, no. We’re not done. I’m very slow and ponderous.
Witness: We can just go to lunch and just finish this over lunch, couldn’t we?
  4. Attorney: Do you feel you have a pretty good memory about things?
    Witness: Sometimes he does.
Attorney: I’m asking about you, ma’am.
    Witness: Me?
    Attorney: Yes, ma’am.
Witness:. Yeah. I ain’t crazy. I may be old, but I ain’t crazy.
Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a copy of Dana Mentink’s Fire Mountain!

Here’s an opportunity for you to win a copy of On the Edge of Trust, my book that releases on November 4, 2025!  My publisher, in conjunction with JustReads, plans a bookstagram tour on Instagram! When decorated FBI undercover agent Scott Sinclair suffers a gunshot wound in his right arm, the injury threatens his future career in the field. He is determined to regain his former job by training himself to use his left hand, and failure is not an option–especially when he’s unofficially pulled into an investigation.

Tori Alexander is a passionate crime reporter and podcaster who has dedicated her life to seeking justice. Her relentless pursuit of the truth has freed two men from prison who were falsely convicted, and when her nephew is accused of murder, nothing can stop her from getting involved and clearing his name.

Sparks ignite when Tori reconnects with Scott on the case, but she’s doubtful if she can extend grace and trust. As the investigation intensifies, they find threats targeted at themselves. They’ll have to combine their skills and rely on their growing relationship to outsmart the killer.

Now for this week’s song. This is probably one of my all-time favorites.

Super photo of the clouds, Pat. Good verse to remind us of God’s majesty.

In your newsletter just out, you mentioned seeing bears at a dump. Would that be in Copper Harbor (Keweenaw Peninsula), MI? I remember that was a big attraction there.

Could the courtroom gaffs be any crazier?
#1. Prosecutor had a good PI working for him.
#2. That court reporter did it? Who knew?
#3. Antsy witness for sure. I’d probably want to be somewhere else, too.
#4. It’s not my memory, it’s my hearing.
I don’t know. I think you made up #2. If I were a guilty court reporter, I’d have called in sick that day.

On the reading front, I finished Lynette Eason’s “Final Approach”. WOW! A must read!
I restarted reading Dana Mentink’s “Fire Mountain”. I agree. It is a solid page turner.

“Ostrich” 🙂 beautiful photo and verse.
Gracious these are tough. I have no idea, so I’m going with #2

I’m going to play the song later because it’s one of my favs. . .I want to bask in it!

That’s going to be some Instagram tour, Pat. I’m not on it, but for those that are, I think they’ll really enjoy it.

Like you,Tim, I just finished Lynette Eason’s Final Approach. I ditto that WOW!!

You’re too funny, Gail. 🙂 It was good, wasn’t it. Something I’ll have to start posting in the blog–if the winner has read the book being offered, I’ll find a substitute.

I feel like it’s #3 as well. And I also finished Lynette’s Final Approach recently, I was on the launch team and it was so fun!! Will you be at the Rendezvous in St Louis in November? It’ll be my second year going, I’m so excited!!

Final Approach is soo good, Denise (which is my daughter’s middle name). I was going to review it this Friday, but I switched to another and saved Lynette’s for the next week.

I won’t make the Rendezvous again this year. I’m teaching at Scrivcon in Hot Springs about the time that’s happening. And my daughter is coming to the conference and we’re doing an early Thanksgiving with my grandson. I wish it wasn’t so close to Thanksgiving!

I’ll miss seeing you there but I understand, there is so much going on in November and grandsons are so awesome!! I’m blessed with 5, the youngest will be 1 this month, the oldest will be 18 next month. I’m still not sure how that happened

Wow! Beautiful clouds. What a wonderful verse! The song is a great choice as well.

    1. Some people just don’t understand delayed gratification. Win the case and there are more funds for those pleasure trips.
    2. Seems like a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
    3. Sounds like a reasonable request.
    4. That sounds like something my mother would have said. LOL!

I think #3 was made up. The times I had jury duty, the judge, not the attorney, determined the schedule for lunch breaks.
