Crazy Laws Take 19 is this week’s Mystery Question…I can’t believe I’ve written for 18 weeks on the crazy laws in this land! And to think, there are a LOT more.
Update on my deadline…I landed the ending Saturday and turned in the book on Monday morning!! Boy, was I happy dancing!
I took the photo this week Saturday afternoon after I wrote The End! And the verse in Psalms is so true!
Now for last week’s Mystery Question. Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on the city books in different states, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
- In a city in this state, you may only water your lawn if the hose is held in your hand. (Massachusetts)
- It is unlawful to shave in the center of Main Street in a town in this state. (Mississippi)
- Frowning is illegal in a town in this state because it’s a “Frown-Free Town Zone”. (NJ)
- Your hen may not be paraded down Main Street in a city in this state.
And the answer is…#4. Congrats to all who guessed correctly!
Now for this week’s Mystery Question. Just like with dumb crimes, three of these laws are really on the city books in different states, and I made one up. Note someone compiled this list in 2011 and some laws can be quite old. Can you guess which one I made up?
- After a state passed an anti-noise law, police fined a grandmother for honking her horn three times at her neighbor.
- In this state, it is illegal to take a bath unless instructed to do so by a physician.
- It is illegal to catch bullfrogs in a tomato patch.
- Shoelaces must be tied while walking down the street in this state.
Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library!
I forgot to enter the names for a book from my library into random dot org last week! And the winner of October’s drawing is Caryl Kane! Congrats, Caryl! I will email you the books to choose fr

I’m guessing you made up number one, but you’re sure showing us some states I want to avoid like the plague
Author
Me too, Delores! We’ll see next week!
#3 – it’s the bullfrogs.
Author
We’ll see, Mary.
I’m going with #1.
Author
We’ll see, Diana!
I think it’s #1, although I could see a sleazy lawyer trying to get a grandma charged for honking.
Author
I’m so glad I wasn’t drinking coffee when I read your response, Joy! We’ll see next week!
Great photo and verse to match, Pat. And congratulations on finishing your book, and for your ranking in the Suspense Readers’ Poll! And, congrats to Caryl for winning the book draw.
#4 makes a lot of sense, so I can see that one. #3 maybe true. Those starving bull frogs need something on their burgers. #2 says we’re all taking showers, I guess. That leaves #1 as the one I think you made up. Who wants a noisy grandma honking at them, anyway?
Author
Just love your logic, Tim, along with some of the others…we’ll see how it works out next week…and thanks for the well wishes!
Congratulations on landing 7th in “Twenty essential Christian suspense authors”! My guess this week is number 2 because who’d make a law about something that would be next to impossible to see if that something happened (if someone took a bath in his or her house)?
Author
Thank you and great logic, Priscilla! But don’t forget who we’re dealing with here…lol We’ll see next week!
#2 ?
Author
We’ll see, MS Barb!
Congrats on finishing your book and the ranking in the suspense poll! I am guessing #2.
Author
Thank you, Gloria! It is such a relief! And I’m beyond happy that I was voted #7!!! We’ll see next week if it’s #2.
Oh my! I finally got one right!
Happy dancing with you, Pat, at the turning in of the book!! PTL
#1 I’d say there probably are some anti-noise laws somewhere.
#2 A lot of historical novels strongly opposed bathing during that era. Hopefully that law has changed.
#3 Hmmm illegal to catch bullfrogs in a tomato patch. If little boys caught them, they’d probably want to brag about it.
#4 Shoelaces must be tied while walking down the street. Sometimes it just happens before you’re least aware of it. Now if that law stated men must hold up their trousers while walking down the street, wouldn’t we all celebrate?
Can’t decide, so going with #4
I absolutely the photo of the clouds. If you’ll look above “your loving kindness,”I saw a baby panda lying on it’s side and holding a baby bottle to its mouth.
Congratulations on your poll win. It’s good to know our votes are heard!
Author
I hadn’t seen the panda! I’ll have to go look. thank you for all your prayers for me to finish the book! And I ove your logic..we’ll next week if it’s #4!
#4 shoelaces. Some cities outlaw honking a car horn, Bullfrogs eat bugs that eat tomatoes??? Taking a bath uses too much limited-resource water??? Boy– where I come from they’d string you up if you weren’t allowed to parade your chicken down main street — and your goats, your horses, rabbits, ducks….HUGE 4-H area.
Author
Love your answer, Susan! We will see…and the same holds true around my area. 😉
I am going with two. I cannot wait for your new book to be released.
Author
Thank you, Judy! Next year I’ll have two releasing, one in February (Fatal Witness) and this one in November–Deadly Revenge.

We’ll see, Patricia!
Congratulations on finishing the book and on ranking in the Suspense Readers Poll! And the picture and verse are beautiful. You’re on a roll.
I hope the made-up law is #2.
Author
Thanks,Kay!! I’m excited about both. And we’ll see if it’s #2 next week…can you believe how dumb these laws are?
Loving those clouds and the sun attempting to peek through. I recently got a similar view of the clouds here that were much like that. The Scripture didn’t appear when I viewed it here. I think that is such a fitting verse. Congratulations for your rank on the Family Fiction Suspense Readers Poll.
I’ve got to go with #1 this week. I know many places have noise ordinances, but giving a ticket to a grandmother for honking at her neighbor is going too far. I don’t think noise ordinances were intended to include that unless it was a continuous blaring of the horn to intentionally disturb others. I think police would be kept busy writing tickets for such violations if they simply hung around public places where car alarms are frequently going off. Of course, that probably wasn’t an issue when these laws were put on the books.
I’m cloud you were able to find the right ending for your book.
Author
Thank you, Edward…I really like my ending! Make that endings… We’ll see if your logic proves true about the noise ordinance…
Pat, I must have had my head in the clouds when I commented. Did you catch that I said “I’m cloud you were able…”? Actually, I’m glad for you and your readers.
Author
I’m real good at reading what I thought I saw…like when I’m editing my books–I read what I thought I wrote. lol Thanks, Edward!
Love the photo and the verse!!
Congratulations on completing your book – looking forward to reading it! Kudos on your ranking in the suspense readers poll!
I’ll guess #3 – no reason just pure guess. Lol
I’ll choose #1
Author
Hi Paula! Sorry I’m late responding–two doctors appointments today! Trying to get caught up on everything I put off to meet the deadline. We’ll see if it’s #1 next week.
i’ll go with #3 this time! Congrats Caryl!
Author
Hi Shelia! We’ll see next week…
The picture is really pretty. The verse is so true and very comforting. It must be a huge relief to have the book turned in. I’m going to guess #1.
Author
It is a HUGE relief, Erika! Now I’m trying to catch up on everything I let slide, including drs appointments. lol
I got last week’s right so I’ll probably get this week’s wrong. I’m guessing #2. I’d hate to live in a state where taking baths were illegal! Would be a lot of stinky people.
Author
Indeed it would, Gail! We’ll see next week if you’re right again.
I would hope #2 is the made up one!

Hi Megan! We’ll see next week…
