Crazy Crimes–Mystery Question

Crazy Crimes--Mystery Question; Ps 30:5

Crazy Crimes–Mystery Question is back again this week. I’m telling you, it’s getting harder and harder to come up with a crime to match the real ones!

But first the photo and scripture verse. I scrolled through my photos this morning and saw this one taken back in the winter and immediately thought of Psalm 30:5b. After a long, sleepless night, seeing the sunrise lifts my spirits and makes me realize Christ is there for me. All.The.Time.

Now for last week’s More True Crime Stories–Mystery Question: Here are four true crimes, well really three true crimes. I made up the fourth one. It’s up to you to figure out which three are true and which one isn’t.
  1. A robber broke into a home at midnight and held a textile manufacturer’s family hostage until the owner could go to the bank and make arrangements to transfer a hundred thousand dollars to an offshore account for ransom. The owner did as he was told and returned, only to find the robber asleep on the floor. He quickly disarmed him and called the police. Moral: get plenty of sleep before you decide to hold someone hostage.
  2. A man was on the run from police after stealing cooking equipment.  He successfully evaded police for weeks, got cocky, and posted to Snapchat that he was at home, hiding from police.  A couple of his followers alerted police who then went to search his home, but didn’t find him and called off the search. He posted again saying police were in his house and he was hiding in a cabinet. Five minutes later the police had their man. Moral of the story: don’t think you can fool the police.
  3. A bank employee stole $5,000 from his workplace.  When he was reported to authorities, he promptly quit his job and moved to another city where he applied for a job as a dispatcher for the local police department. The police made the connection and thought the easiest way to catch him was to offer him a job interview. He arrived, suited up and ready to impress, and was promptly arrested. Moral of the story: Don’t post to social media everything you know.
  4. An author wrote a crime novel that quickly became a bestseller. However, police found many of the details about the murder in the novel eerily familiar to what they knew about an unsolved case on their books. When they looked into the case, they discovered the author not only knew the victim but was the last person to see him alive. The author is now writing from prison. The moral to the story: Police read books, too–don’t commit a crime and then write a best seller.
And the answer is…#1. I remember reading similar stories of business owners and banker being held for ransom and adapted it.
Now for this week’s Crazy Crimes–Mystery Question: Here are four true crimes, well really three true crimes. I made up the fourth one. It’s up to you to figure out which three are true and which one isn’t.
  1. A mom dressed in skinny jeans, high-top sneakers, a hoodie, and a mask and went to school as her 13-year-old daughter. She hung out at school taking classes, talking to the principal, and eating chicken nuggets in the cafeteria. Nobody figured out she was a 30-year-old mom and not the 13-year-old kid until 7th period,
  2. The drunk teen stumbled into bed in the wee hours of the morning and woke up in trouble. Not for breaking curfew, but for mistaking whatever his intended destination was for an Airbnb rental full of cops. He woke up in handcuffs and a video shared to TikTok and Instagram.
  3. ALA Bonnie and Clyde, a couple started a career of robbing banks. At a small town in Alabama, the police happened to be at the right place at the right time when the call came in their local bank was in the process of being robbed. The couple led them on a wild chase until they took a turn on an unmarked dead-end road. A shoot-out ensued and the couple was captured.
  4. Police responding to a two-car accident discovered an odd thing when they arrived at the scene: The driver of one of the vehicles was gone. Then they discovered a second odd thing that might go a long way toward explaining the first: In the abandoned BMW were three burlap sacks with 70 bundles of cocaine worth $3.3 million.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a $10 gift card.

And in researching this week’s Crazy Crimes–Mystery Question, I discovered a really neat story about a man swallowed by a whale last week…Here’s the link.

As usual, 4 stories, 3 true, 1 false. Can you guess which one is the false one? Leave a comment and I'll enter you in a June drawing for a $10 gift card! Share on X

I thought you were kidding about the whale story. That poor man! I’m guessing number 3 this time because if I were a bank robber, I’d flee down the highway, not a dead end street.

Pat, it may be harder for you to find these, but it’s also harder for us to tell which one you made up. They’re all so crazy. But, I think the screwiest one is #3, so I’m going with the crowd so far on this one.

Well, it wouldn’t be snow here. Yesterday it was 109 in Tucson, and today it’s headed for 112. Best time of the year if you’re a lizard or a snake! I’m patiently waiting for the monsoon rains to start, hopefully in a few weeks.

Oh, wow, Tim. That is HOT! I’ve been to Vegas and it was 110° in the shade. My fingers cracked and bled! While we complain about the humidity here in Mississippi, I prefer it over arid. lol

I clung to that verse as a child and teen. Still powerful for me.
I’m going with #2. I would think the Airbnb would have the doors locked

Kay, I can’t believe how crazy some people are. If you put them in a book, a publisher would turn it down. lol Thanks for stopping by and we’ll see next week if it’s #2.

I’m going against the grain with #2. 😀

Beautiful pic, and that verse was the primary one that got me through my most recent (in some ways most challenging) pregnancy.

Crazy story about the whale! My goodness. I’m surprised he didn’t come away with more injuries.

I have two of your books in line to read once I’m done with my current one. Looking forward to them!

I’m excited you’re reading two of my books! Thank you!! And that verse has gotten me through so much. Last night I woke up at 2 and a problem with the non-profit I helped form really ate at me until I got up and got my Bible. That was one of the verses I read.
I’d read about people being swallowed by whales before, but that man was the first one I’d read about that didn’t come out of the ordeal all bleached. 🙂
We’ll see next week if it’s #2, 😉 So glad you stopped by!

#1 is true because I read this story somewhere just the other day…probably when I was pursuing the news briefs on my phone. I saw the headline and had to learn more about it, sure enough the mom got away with going to school dressed as her 13 year old daughter. Why did she do it? She said because she wanted to prove that the school needed better security. After reading the entire article, I would have to agree with her!

As for the made up one, I’ll go with #3 this week. No reason why other than I have to choose one of the other three…lol!

I really love the picture this week! The sun peeking through the clouds is always beautiful to me 🙂 And of course, the verse is a great reminder.

I saw your email this morning but it’s been a busy day, although I’m not sure what I’ve done other than go to my youngest grandson’s baseball game this evening. They won, so I plan to go watch them play for the championship on Thursday evening.

I love that verse, but I don’t remember ever noticing it until Bill and Gloria Gaither wrote their song years ago, “Joy Comes in the Morning.” Love that song. Both go well with the picture.

I’m choosing #4 this week. Of the four, it sounds more like something that really happened than the others. Therefore, I think it’s made up.

I’m going to say #2 is the false one. I can’t imagine people not locking their doors, especially in a rental house. These are really fun, thanks for sharing.
