Courtroom Stories–Mystery Question

Courtroom Stories; Matthew 4:16

Courtroom Stories is this week’s Mystery question. I literally spit my coffee over some of these.

First the photo and Scripture. The sun hung low in the sky as I chugged up the hill in my neighborhood. I topped the hill and saw this magnificient view, and I whipped out my camera. This goes to show that you don’t have to be in an exotic place to get a neat photo! And I thought the verse fit perfectly.

Now for last week’s More Crazy Justice Crimes–this week’s Mystery Question. As usual, three are true and I made up one. Can you guess which one?
  1. There’d been a rash of burglaries in a Florida neighborhood that bordered a pond. Neighbors saw two men dressed in black skulking about and called police. The two men went on the run. While the police heard screaming, they couldn’t pinpoint where it was coming from. Ten days later the police found the remains of one of the alleged burglars in the pond guarded by an 11-foot alligator. An autopsy on the gator revealed the partial remains of the missing burglar.
  2. An older woman had a $100,000 insurance policy payable to her niece. The niece, who lived with her aunt in a rural area near a small town, was putting arsenic in her aunt’s sugar. The arsenic caused stomach problems, and the niece dutifully took her aunt to the doctor, where blood work failed to reveal the arsenic because the doctor didn’t test specifically for the poison. Unfortunately, on one of the trips to town, another car t-boned the niece, and she needed a blood transfusion. Except, except the local hospital was low on blood and didn’t have the niece’s type. The aunt, who had the same blood type, was happy to provide the blood which promptly killed the niece. The arsenic had built up in the aunt’s blood and was too much for the niece who had no arsenic in her bloodstream.
  3. It was a neighborhood barbershop, the kind where the barber had a safe that he never locked, mainly because the only thing in it was a ring. The kind with a man who polished and shined shoes. One day the ring went missing, and after a thorough search, police arrested Shoe Shine, even though he greatly protested his innocence. At the trial the jury found Shoe Shine not guilty. On the way out of the courtroom, he was overheard asking his lawyer, “Does this mean I get to keep the ring?”
  4. A man robbed a bank and police arrested him. The bank video was fuzzy and distorted and it came down to a bank teller’s eye-witness testimony. She described the robber, givng a detailed description. Height, build, hair, face, complexion, clothes. “He doesn’t look exactly like that in the bank videos,” said the defense. “How can you be so sure?” She answered, “He’s wearing the same clothes he wore when he robbed us.”

And the answer is…#2…several of you caught the connection between #2 and my short story, Blood Kin  published by Woman’s World on this website.

And now for this week’s Mystery Question–Courtroom Stories. These are true stories that happened in courtrooms…except for one that I made up. Can you guess which one?
  1. Lawyer: I show you Exhibit 3 and ask you if you recognize that picture. Defendant: That’s me. Lawyer: Were you present when that picture was taken?
  2. Lawyer: “This myasthenia gravis…does it affect your memory at all?“ Witness: “Yes.” Lawyer: “And in what ways does it affect your memory?“ Witness: “I forget.” Lawyer: “You forget. Can you give us an example of something you’ve forgotten?“
  3. Lawyer : “Isn’t it true that you’ve been married twice?” Witness: “Yes, sir.” Lawyer: “And the first marriage ended in death, correct?” Client: “Yes, sir.” Lawyer: “And whose death ended it?” Client: “Judge, can I get a new lawyer?”
  4. Lawyer: “What happened then?“ Witness: “He told me, he says, ‘I have to kill you because you can identify me.’” Lawyer: “And did he kill you?“ Witness: “No, he did not.”

Okay Super Sleuths, which one did I make up? Courtroom Stories is this week's Mystery Queston. As usual three are true and I made up one. Can you guess which one? Leave your answers in the comments and I'll enter you in a July drawing for a book from my library! Share on X

Hi Delores! don’t know if you noticed, but the blog was late…that’s because I had overwritten it with an idea for a future post. My heart dropped to my feet when I couldn’t find this post!! But thankfully WordPress keeps multiple copies of posts and I was able to retrieve it. Whew!!
Now…we’ll see next week if it’s #3. Isn’t it amazing that three of these are actually true!

Wow! When I first clicked on the pic, the sunlight flashed up as a cross. So, that Scripture fits perfectly! I love how your pics tell a story for me…and then the Scripture…speaks to my heart. Thanks for doing these.

And now to try and guess which scenario?? Hmmm #4, because he was alive to give his answer :-O LOL

The pic is beautiful! I love it when God gives us beauty each day! We just need to look!

The first two made me shake my head. The last two made laugh! I’d ask for a new lawyer, too! I’m going with #2. No reason…just because I had to pick one! Thanks for the giggle this morning!

Don’t you love it when you arrive at a breathtaking scene and can take that photo? It’s an amazing experience. My most memorable was driving to the Grand Canyon for the first time, and having the Canyon suddenly appear as the trees thinned out near a scenic turnout. WOW! And, yes your Scripture pick says it all.

My first thought upon reading these trial “transcripts” is that I want the names of those lawyers, so I never hire one of them! Those are so crazy I’m sure the judges were kept busy banging their gavels for order from all the laughter. I think you made up #1, but all of them are just too funny to be true. I do remember reading a similar, supposedly true exchange where the attorney asks something like “And how many autopsies have your performed on dead people?” Witness: “All of them. The live ones put up too much of a fight.” I can imagine seeing the judge’s eyes roll.

Love your story, Tim. And yes, I love coming up on beautiful scenes and that’s when I’m glad I have a camera on my phone. 😉 I’d love to go to the Grand Canyon! We’ll see next week if it’s#1.

I thought I commented earlier, but I can’t find it. I think I remember what I said, but my myasthenia gravis seems to be acting up and I’m forgetting a lot. I am joking because I was not aware that myasthenia gravis had a thing to do with forgetfulness. I have heard of this disease but don’t know anything about it other than what I read a while ago about it affecting muscles that are used for bodily functions like walking, seeing, breathing, etc. I chose #2 for that reason. Whether I’m right or wrong, I think those lawyers were either idiots, or they were asking ridiculous questions to try to trip up the defendants and witnesses. #2 asked a dumb question, but at least it was a question that was not clearly obvious like the other three.

I can imagine that view would stop anyone in their tracks. Just think how we will respond when we see The Son – I expect it will be far more awesome than this. The scripture is an excellent choice.
