Last week was an exciting week! As I told you on Friday, I’m really excited about the grant we received to talk to kids in two counties in our area about abstinence and making healthy choices for their lives. While I won’t be doing the programs like I used to, and loved doing, by the way, I’m happy that the people we’ve hired are so passionate about the subject.
Then on Wednesday, I learned that Family Fiction had conducted a poll on their readers’ favorite Christian suspense authors and I was in the top thirty-five! Yayay! You can see the article about it here. That was totally out of the blue.
The last exciting thing…in spite of being away from my computer all week, I was able to write 5,000 words! This week I hope to write 10,000 words. Now on to last week’s Mystery Question.
Three of the following crimes are true. I made up one. Can you guess which one I made up?
- A suspected thief was foiled when the auto-lock of the car he broke into locked him inside, which was handy for the police when they arrived.
- A man taunted police that he was smarter than they were and they couldn’t catch him. Unfortunately, he videoed himself at his kitchen table where his utility bill with his address showing lay in plain sight.
- A thief used a stolen SIM cared to make a photo of himself inside a house he was burglarizing then posted it to the internet and accidentally to the victim’s work colleagues along with his location.
- A man used a bag to cover his head while he burglarized a hotel, but then he was caught on camera removing the bag, exposing his face for the world to see.
And the answer is…#2! Congrats Tayler and Colleen! I know a lot of you thought it was #1, but evidently, it is possible to lock yourself inside a car. Here’s the link to the story.
And now for this week’s Mystery Question: A man was wanted as a serial killer. He was arrested but after parents of a teenage victim refused to allow her to testify, he was sentenced to only seventeen months for assault. Three of the following statements are true, and one is made up. Can you tell which one I made up?
- He was found guilty in two separate trials and sentenced to death, but on appeal, the first sentence was overturned and the second nullified.
- While police were looking for him, he appeared on the Dating Game and won the date with the “bachelorette”.
- In his third trial, he acted as his own attorney and played the role of both interrogator and witness, lowering his voice when he asked the witness questions.
- The third trial ended in a mistrial because he was tried for five separate murders at the same time, and the jurors couldn’t decide his guilt in one of the murders.
Okay, Super Sleuths, which answer did I make up? Leave your answer in the comment and I’ll enter you in a drawing at the end of the month for Justice Betrayed! (ebook for outside the Continental US)

I think you made up No. 4. The first three are so stupid, they almost have to be true. I think I might have seen No. 2 as a true story on the ID channel and I really love No. 3!!
Author
Hi Jan! we’ll see if I made up #4 next week. If #2 is true, then he was really bold…thanks for stopping by.
I gasped at number 2. That’s GOT to be the one you made up.
Congrats on making the fave authors list! 5k while away from your computer is a lot, and 10k while at your computer is really a lot. I’m impressed. (I’m attempting NaNoWriMo this year, so I need to embrace big word counts like that.)

Can I give you a tip, Priscilla? Rachel Hauck says all the time to “tell the story between the quotes.” Writing dialogue will really eat of the words and it’s so much fun and easier for me that narrative. 😉 Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks so much for the tip!
Author
You are most welcome! Good luck on NaNo!
I am going to guess #4.
Author
I see a trend for #4, Ellen. Thanks for stopping by and we’ll find out next week the correct answer.
Congratulations! I will guess #4. If it was a mistrial how did he get sentenced for assault? #2 is so outrageous one would assume it to be false but I think that real life is often crazy
Author
Hmmm, good question, Christine. Unless the assault was for one of the other trials…thanks so much for stopping by and commenting.
I’m going with #1
Author
Hi, Victoria! We’ll see next week if he actually had both sentences overturned. Thanks for stopping by.
I’ll guess #3.
Author
We’ll see, Paula. This guy had to be crazy since three of the answers ARE true. lol Thanks for stopping by.
Congrats on being a Family Fiction fav & accomplishing much writing.
#3 this week
Author
Thanks, Lisa. It was such a surprise and honor! We’ll see if it’s #3 next week. Thanks for stopping by.
I think it’s #4
Author
I’m seeing a trend, Mary, with #4! We’ll see next week. Thanks for stopping by.
These are all absolutely crazy. I do wonder how your mind is able to make some of them up. It’s hard to tell which is phony, but my almost stab-in-the-dark is #4 because it’s just too bizarre (which is probably why it’s true).

We’ll see, Delores, we’ll see. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with one more outlandish than the correct ones. lol
#2
Author
Number 2 does seem a little outlandish for a serial killer, doesn’t it, Suzanne! We’ll see next week. Thanks for stopping by.
i will go with #4
Author
Number 4 seems to be very popular, Shelia. Thanks for stopping by.
Just to be different, I’ll say 2.
Author
Covering the bases, huh? Thanks for commenting, Joan. Your book is in the mail. 🙂
I’ll say no. 4. It is hard to believe that he would be tried for 5 murders at one trial.
Author
We’ll see, Judy. And thanks for stopping by!
I think it is #3.
Author
We’ll see, Elizabeth, we’ll see. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
LMHO but have to say #4
Author
Glad I made you laugh, Jackie! We’ll see next week…thanks for commenting.
I like your caption today: “Can You Guess the Incorrect Answer?” I certainly can. I seem to guess the incorrect answer quite frequently, including last week. I’m still shaking my head on that one: smart enough to break in but not smart enough to break out. I wonder if he couldn’t break out or maybe decided it wasn’t safe to get out? I’m going with #4 this time.
Author
I probably would have voted for the car one, too, Edward, if I hadn’t been creating the post. lol. We’ll see if you’ve done better this week. Thanks for commenting.
#4,,, no wait, maybe it’s #3! You certainly have a creative mind! I’m glad you’re not on the criminal side of the law!
Author
Hehehe…Thank you for the compliment, MS Barb! And thanks for commenting.
Even though it appears pretty outrageous, I think I’ll go with #2. Thanks for the opportunity to win a print book:)
Author
Hi Lual! Number 2 does seem outlandish…but you never know…thanks for stopping by and commenting.
How about #2 just for fun? Congrats on making the top 35 readers’ favorite Christian suspense authors! I saw that list and you are in some great company 🙂
I totally missed last weeks question (again). It seems the weeks go by way too fast, doesn’t it? Is that what happens when one gets older? Oy…lol!
I’m glad you are a part of something good in the schools. Abstinence has gone the wayside it seems in the world. I see way too many young girls/couples with children who should be kids and not parents. It’s very sad & I’m sure breaks God’s heart as well as ours.
Here’s to 10,000 words this week Patricia, I’m rooting for you! 🙂
Author
Thanks, Trixi, and yes the weeks go by too fast! I am totally excited about the new grant and hope we can make a difference. I was well on my way to 10K until an emergency came up with my neighbor this afternoon, but it’s turned out better than I hoped. I still lost most of the afternoon, though. Praying for God to help me redeem the time!
I believe its # 1
Author
We’ll see, Tayler…next week. Thanks for commenting!
I read about number 2, so I’ll pick # 4. Have a blessed day.

I’m going with number three.
Author
Hi Jeanna! So you think I made up that he acted as his own attorney. Maybe. 🙂 We’ll see next week!
They all sound unbelievable, but I’m going with #4.
Author
Hi Kay and welcome to my blog! So glad they all sound unbelievable…and we’ll see next Tuesday if that’s the correct answer. Thanks for commenting!
