Can You Believe It?

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 43 Comments

For God has not given us a spirit of fear...

As we go into the 7th…or is it the 8th week of sheltering-in, it’s increasingly hard for me to focus on writing anything longer than a blog post! And it’s not because I am fearful…I figure it’s my ADHD kicking in full-time. lol I know God has this, and at some point, it will end.

But so many things pull at me…especially the book releasing May 5th! If I’ve learned one thing in this writing business, though, it’s that God knows the release is coming and my sales aren’t up to me. He is. I learned that when my first book released on the day of my Mom’s funeral. I had no thought whatsoever of marketing that day, and it did pretty well. Right now, that book has over a 1000 four-plus stars. And not because of anything I did.

Which brings me to the Family Fiction Poll…God blessed me with enough good sales to be listed on Family Fiction’s Poll for your favorite author. I would really appreciate it if you would hop over and vote here! (I’m listed under the Suspense and Romance categories…hint, hint. 🙂 )

Now onto last week’s Mystery Question. Four crazy insurance claims. Three are true, and I made up one. Can you guess the one I made up?
  1. A woman claimed she found a mouse in her soup at a restaurant and tried to sue, but after an investigation, the restaurant proved there was no way a mouse had been in her soup and a judge agreed. She ended up in jail for extortion.
  2. A man’s house caught fire, and he filed a claim on his 400-year-old violin that had been inside the house. He claimed it was worth fifty thousand dollars. Unfortunately, when the adjuster looked through the F-holes, he found a label, meaning the violin had been made after 1891–old, but not that old and not worth more than $500.
  3.  A lawyer insured a pack of cigars against catastrophic events—flood, storms, fire, etc. When he filed a claim, stating that his cigars had succumbed to a series of small fires, the insurance company rejected the claim, but because the policy didn’t specify the types or size of the fires covered, a judge ruled the insurance company had to pay.
  4. A burglar robbed a home and because the garage door opener didn’t work, he ended up locked inside a garage for a week while the homeowners were on vacation. They returned and found him and called the police. He called his lawyer and filed a claim against the homeowner for mental anguish. He was awarded a million dollars.

And the answer is…#2. It’s hard to believe #4 isn’t made up! But I checked it out and it’s true. Can you see me shaking my head?

Now onto this week’s Mystery Question. Four insurance claims. Three are true, one is made up. Can you tell which one I made up?
  1. “I was driving along the expressway when the police pulled me over onto the shoulder. Unfortunately, I was in the middle lane and there was another car in the way..”
  2. The claimant had collided with a cow. The questions and answers on the claim form were – Q: What warning was given by you? A: Horn. Q: What warning was given by the other party? A: Moo.
  3. “An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car and vanished.”
  4. “I gave a signal to turn, but the other car hit me anyway.”

Okay, Mystery Sleuths, which one did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library that includes Standoff!

And, before I go, from April 21 until the 30th, the e-copy of  Justice Delayed, is on sale for $1.99!! (It’ll probably be even cheaper on Amazon and Christian Books!) This is the one that opens with a man sitting on death row, four days from execution when he gets a letter saying he didn’t commit the crime and the person writing the letter has proof. Then the letter disappears and the letter-writer is murdered…

You can buy it here:

Amazon
B&N
Kobo

Pat, your Bible verses continue to remind me that God has indeed got this COVID-19 thing, and everything else in our lives as well. Thank you. And, I wish you great success on your next release. I’m waiting anxiously for it. Was your first book “Shadows of the Past”? It was the first one of yours I read, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

All the claims seem reasonable, but I believe you made up #4 this week.

I’m so glad you enjoy my scripture verses, Tim! I love to find encouraging verses and layer them on my photos. And yes, Shadows of the Past was my first book. I’m so glad it “hooked” you. 🙂 And we’ll see next week if it’s #4!

Number three is crazy, which means it’s probably true, but I rather hope it’s false! So excited to get last week’s one!

Great Scripture verse. A huge number of people need to get into right relationship with God and claim that verse. I think we all see far too much of the opposite: too much fear, lack of love, no power, and a messed up mind. Maybe we all demonstrate some of those at times, but we need to pray for God to make that verse real in our lives. I like the picture. Did you take it?

I am going with #4. It almost sounds like a paraphrase of the first one.

I did take it, Edward. I was on a cruise and the moon was so big and full. Of course, it didn’t show up as well as I would have liked. 🙂 And yes, people need to claim that verse! We’ll see next week if #4 is the correct incorrect answer. :=)

I think this is our 6th week of sheltering in (the days are all a blur) and it’s just so hard! Not that I went out too much in the first place. I guess like a petulant child, I don’t like being told I CAN’T do something…lol! It’s just so strange when I do go to the grocery store that everyone (including myself) is wearing a mask and some are wearing gloves. I hate having to go all the way around someone as if they have the plague, I really feel so badly. Is that to become our new norm when things settle down? I hope not because it just feel so impersonal and disconnected.

Anyway, rant over 🙂 On to better news, I get the chance to review your upcoming book “Standoff” for Interviews & Reviews!! I wanted to get a paperback but with so many publishers unable to get books out, I chose to do a ebook via Netgalley. Guess what I’ll be starting tonight? Can’t wait! And I also voted for you (and four other fantastic authors) on the Family Fiction poll.

I’m shaking my head over the answer to last week’s question too! It’s so hard to tell what’s truth and what’s not on these 🙂 I’ll throw caution to the wind and say it’s #3 this week, just because. Also, I have all but “Justice Delivered” on my shelf so I think I need to move this series up on my TBR pile. I am interested in knowing how the man gets out of death row from the letter. Inquiring minds want to know 😉

Trixi, I’m excited!! I hope you enjoy it!
I went to the grocery today for my neighbors across the street and for myself and another person and it was strange. It’d been over a week since I went and the last time it was like I was about the only one in there with a mask on. Today almost everyone, including the workers were wearing masks. And they were counting how many entered and how many exited so they wouldn’t get too many people inside the store. And every aisle had an employee getting groceries for those who chose to order and pick up. Very strange. But, this too will pass. Nothing goes on forever. And when it’s over, I’ll wonder why I didn’t write more…but it’s something I haven’t been able to do. Hopefully tomorrow…
