Can Criminals Get Any Dumber?

Patricia Bradley Mystery Question 55 Comments

After seven weeks, my bathrooms are almost finished, and I’m back home! I spent Saturday waxing and buffing my hardwood floors, and Sunday after church I started putting things back where they go. It may take a day or two for that! 🙂

Since I don’t have mirrors or towel bars up yet, it’ll be next week before I show before and after photos.

Now for last week’s Mystery Question that came from a police blotter report. As usual three are real and one is made up.
  1. Police arrested a woman for domestic violence after she hit her husband with a ceramic bowl following an argument over what breakfast cereal to buy.
  2. An intoxicated woman was arrested after she called 911 because she accidentally put a bundle of meth in the deposit slot of an ATM (she had been carrying the meth in a deposit envelope). She wanted help getting her meth back.
  3. A store owner called police when he found the door of his small grocery open. Inside, police discovered an unconscious teen in the beer cooler. He apparently locked himself inside the cooler after drinking half a case of beer.
  4. A man was arrested after he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment while she was away on vacation. He filled her waterbed and curtain rods with shrimp. In a June heatwave. The woman returned ten days later to an uninhabitable apartment.

And the answer is…no, not #4…but #3! I think the boyfriend who put the shrimp in the curtain rod should be locked up and the key thrown away.

Now for this week Mystery Question. Three of the following crimes are true. One is not. Can you guess which one is false?
  1. A teen “borrowed” a phone to call for a ride home and failed to return it. The owner reported it to the police and an officer made a FaceTime call…and snapped a photo of the man who answered.
  2. A man thought it would be funny to put on a mask and “pretend” to rob his brother. Unfortunately, the brother pulled out a gun and wounded the “robber” in the shoulder.
  3. A man was charged with Driving Under the Influence and insisted that his photo not be released to the local newspaper. His pleas went unheard and his photo and arrest record was posted in the paper. Not to be thwarted, he followed the delivery trucks and purchased every paper put in the newsstands, spending more than $1500.
  4. Two men took a taxi to a house, had the driver to wait while they went in and stole a TV and liquor. Then they had the driver take them to their house. When they refused to pay him, the driver reported them to the police–the moral? Be sure to pay your getaway driver.

Okay, Super Sleuths, which story did I make up? Leave your answer in the comments, and I’ll enter you in a drawing for a book from my library at the end of the month.

Okay, this week it’s got to be number 4 because SURELY the criminals wouldn’t want anyone driving them home and knowing exactly where they live. (Then again, I guessed wrong on last week’s shrimp criminal!)

Hi Priscilla! And I’m so sorry about being so late answering everyone today, but I’ve been trying to put my house back in order and it’s been overwhelming!
We’ll see, Priscilla if these were the dumb criminals.
      Thanks for stopping by!

Once again I love these. The shrimp? He should suffer similar penalty. I think it’s #4, not paying the getaway driver, but I love #3 – buying all the papers–of course that wouldn’t suppress all knowledge in today’s media world, but how delightful!

Congrats on the bathroom remodel! I am sure it will be nice to have it all finished.

Maybe the shrimp guy should have to spend a day or two in the apartment with the shrimp!

My guess this week is #2 because I would hope the guy would recognize his brother, even if he were wearing a mask.

#2. I would hope he knew his own brother but then again maybe he did know his brother and wanted to teach him a lesson.

Without knowing more about the ex-girlfriend in #4 last week, I wouldn’t be too hasty to take vengeance on the ex-boyfriend. Maybe she had done something awful to him to cause the breakup. Regarding the ones this week, I think they are all equally dumb. All of these people must be rehearsing for a role in the sequel to the sequel of “Stupid and Stupider”, as my wife once slipped and called the movie. I’ll stick with #2 for another week.

Pat, when my wife called the movie “Stupid and Stupider”, it was unintentional and we have laughed about it several times over the years. I did a similar thing but not as funny as her slip-up. A movie was made in the early 90s within about an hour of our home in Virginia. The title was “What About Bob?” We were going somewhere one day and passed the general vicinity of where the movie was made. I was going to point out that fact to my wife and told her: “This is where they made that movie, “Whatever Happened to Bob?” I must have been wondering what happened to him since I don’t recall ever watching the entire movie.

#4 this week. I still can’t believe how dumb some criminals are, can you? They say truth is stranger than fiction 🙂

I can’t wait to see your before and after pictures for your bathrooms. I bet you’re glad to finally have them done!

Hola, I’ve been missing in action for a few weeks but I’m back, sounds like you have been super busy Patricia :). I’ll say #2 sounds false.
